I think hobbies are overrated. There’s no shame with binge watching shows and enjoying a lie in. I don’t get why we have to impress people even outside of work.

A popular craft a lot of people have gotten into during the pandemic is knitting and crocheting. The rewarding feeling of completing something as simple as a scarf or hat really builds confidence and makes you wanting to make more as gifts or for yourself. Cross stitching is also a fun little hobby that can leave you occupied for hours depending on how long it takes you to complete it. I also draw inspiration from Rapunzel from Tangled lol. She had so many hobbies and always found things to do despite being locked up.
I relate to this- I feel I have no passion for anything, and haven't really ever had the glory of being really good at something!! Does it make us different? Does it mean we simply haven't discovered our hobby and we're in a holding pattern until we do? I don't know. I dread people asking me what I do outside of work... Existing keeps me busy I guess!
Honestly when I used to meet a lot of people at bars or wherever, I ended up just fudging and exaggerating. I put emphasis on hiking when I truly only hike a few times a year. Or I just say what I legitimately enjoy doing, but in reality don't do a whole lot. However, nowadays, I'm honest because I know there are plenty of people who have this in common with me: I watch Netflix, surf the net, and eat. I try and make it sound more interesting by saying I research different topics, read articles, surf Reddit, learn things on RUclips. I also like to throw in that I enjoy exercising. Honestly, you don't need to impress anyone. You probably seem more interesting to people not from your hobbies, but more your personality.

I'm suffer from anxiety and depression yet, I have hobbies (gym and guitar). They make my anxiety and depression have less impact on me. Some people don't have hobbies yet they mentally tough and strong, and that's really good from my eyes.
I was at a happy with with some of my coworkers after work and one of the directors asked me what I do in my spare time. I seriously had no idea what to say lol
I feel a little better about wasting my life away. Having no passions to really share is such a pain. I always say I just "chill and hang out with friends". But that isn't true at all... (but can't be demonstrated :P) I see my friends like once, maybe twice, a month. But the issue I have recently been mentally struggling with (and thus ended up finding your entertaining video) is I really have no passion to share with a significant other... so I don't even bother dating. I just work on my career and that is it. Which used to be enough of a distraction that I could convince my mental demons that it was my hobby... but I recently bought my first home and find myself needing a new goal. I guess I can start going to the gym or something and make that my "hobby"... maybe a home gym. I still don't want people to ask what I do for "fun". +Jonathan Rodriguez I get where you're coming from. I rely on the people around me for hobbies. I do what they like with them from time to time. I hope you don't give up on finding someone to share your life with. I think you'll either find someone who has enough passion they can share, or someone like the people commenting on this video - people who want to come home from work to relax and be entertained and not much else. I think we are a whole sub group of people that don't get talked about - but that doesn't mean we're not here! My husband has so many interests that one of my contributions to our relationship is to make him slow down, rest, and enjoy. When someone asks what my hobbies are, I usually reply with something like I'm a pretty content person and prefer adventures once in a while to hobbies.
+Kim Bonnell thanks. I appreciate the reassurance. I do believe am a "supporter". I have minimal urge to do anything on my own because I am always content merely existing. But I love helping others with their passions or troubles. I have a friend who loves dressing me up in cosplay. I pay for some of the tools and materials and she makes me look good. Another friend I helped get his motorcycle license by going with him to the motorcycle safety course. Now we both have our license. My friends have a annual camping trip, where my truck carries a majority of the items. I bought the truck specifically to help with the camping trip. It has come in handy since then to say the least. I guess helping others could be considered a hobby. but, people always want to know what I do for fun. my answer is often whatever I feel like at a given time. Omitting the fact that I usually don't feel like doing anything. Anyway, again, I appreciate the kind words.
You seem content with life. Just my observation. I feel that many people who have numerous hobbies are trying to "fill the void." I've done a little introspection when eavesdropping on people's conversations (a hobby of mine) and said to myself "what am I doing with my life?"
That's exacly how I felt as well in my early 20ies until I discovered my truest passion and opened my eyes to my strenghts to understand it all. Overall it was long journey. I think it's because growing up I didn't see my family do anything with their lives either. I never saw my parents or my brother taking special time to enjoy themselves. So I learned that wasn't a priority or that it didn't matter. Mother cooked, cleaned & worked. Father worked & slept. Brother went to school, chased loose girls. That's it. I never saw them having friends, planning things. Hate to blame everything on my upbringing, but that's your first example.
I make stained glass windows, yet I seem to do this very little. I have been slowly, very slowly, putting together a series of 15" by 3' windows over the last year and I just can not seem to get myself to finish. I also make them for my kids. When I make free time I build furniture with pipe, things I have made are: loft beds for my kids, pool stick rack, foot rest at a family members bar, shelves, shelves with lights inside them(hard to explain that one without a picture), exercise equipment, ect. Time it seems is all we have, 24 hours a day, that is 1440 seconds a day, 86,400 seconds every day. Looking ahead it seems I always have a ton of things to do or get done, yet looking at my past I seem to get very little done. A hobby is really just a discipline, I feel I have no discipline. Yet people who see me, or know me have said at times that I get so much done, or that I'm productive, yet it never seems that way to me..... Not sure why I'm writing this here, maybe, just maybe it will help someone else.

Yeah I barely have hobbies, I wake up, go to school, maybe hang with a few friends.. but it’s so hard to have good conversations cause of this, I rely on any crazy stories I may have. If they ask me I just say I tutor middle school kids and do stage crew.. which aren’t ‘demonstrative’. I mean I’m only 16 so I have time to figure this out. I mean I think what’s the point really whatever I do isn’t going to have a lasting impact forever so I don’t really see the point of ‘hobbies’.... but I actually do tutor kids.. tutoring is my everything during the school year and in summer it’s being a camp counselor.. better than nothing.
I struggle with this a lot! I'm 21 and take a lot of vocal pride in my accomplishments, such as student clubs, leading my uni classes, and learning about things in my free-time. All of which I would consider hobbies but nothing worthwhile at all to talk about in a casual conversation. As an extrovert this definitely erks me because my impression on other people is generally firm and decisive, yet I tend to view anything 'relaxing' such as watching movies or doing nothing with my partner for a whole day ᵃ ʷᵃˢᵗᵉ ᵒᶠ ᵗᶦᵐᵉ. I can relate to you so much! To make things worst, I have this super interesting husband who is into everything and is a big nerd, but at the same time is athletic and artistic. Everyone always finds him way more interesting and wants to be his friend and talk to him. Whereas I'm in the corner with little to no hobbies or things im actually good at and I don't even watch a lot of shows or pop culture. I did get somewhat into knitting and crocheting, and I was so proud of myself for making one bag I almost cried 😆. But I wouldnt say I'm an expert or super passionate about it. My husband calls me granny millennial because I do it on occasion.

Ugh... after I became a house wife I started to realize that I have no hobbies. Before I could just say I was too busy to have one but now, how can I protect myself from people who wants to know what my hobbies are 😝 well I gave myself time, slowly started to listen to myself, and tried to wake my inner ME to tell me what she liked before adult life swallowed her... I started to decorate my house, bake, cook, took piano classes( wanted to do it all my life but was too afraid of failure) , started to listen to audiobooks every time I drive somewhere, so I realized that I am not that boring, I just never listened to myself

Those are good hobbies to start with and great for conversation starters. You're at least into things that a lot of other people are passionate about (anime, books, series). I used to be into anime when I was younger, but for whatever reason just lost interest when I got older. And its weird but I am a tough critic when it comes to getting into book series and tv series in general. Like i dont like most things that are popular which would make me a hipster, but I don't identify as a hipster lol. I'm just boring because im not into the major fandoms that everyone else is into like lord of the rings,harry potter, star trek, etc. When i was younger, I was into Dragon ball z and Sailor Moon. Not so much anymore. All i do is knit a little and everyone i know calls me grandma lol.
Being critical of hobbies happened to me for a long time. It's like in order to mention something (e.g. Tolkien books) I've to know absolutely everything about it. Be a complete fan. Otherwise I feel like I'm just doing it to be popular. I'm very boring with anime, I only like the slice-of-life ones, they're not usually the most interesting to discuss, but they give me peace. Knitting seems like a very interesting hobby to me! At one time I did it, but since I couldn't find a pattern that convinced me, I never moved forward, I was always restarting the work!
I don't have a true hobby, I notice when I like to do something I succeed to learn as much that I can and succeed to be the best at it, and when I'm all "done" with it I don't have that same passion of it that I did in the beginning, I still do enjoy to do them tho.

Thank God I’m not alone. I don’t have any hobbies. I have slight interest in things but I loose interest quickly, and on top of that I’m not good at anything. I’m not good at art. I don’t play any instruments, and learning something new is frustrating to me. Instead of relaxing me, it just makes me more tired and exhausted. I wish I could find something that I don’t loose interest and that I can legitimately be good at.
Hobbies are usually something you find in a hobby shop. I found radio control racing cars in my local hobby shop and quickly went to all the hobby shops in my area. Now I have three cars, a bunch of r/c car tools and parts. I’ve spent a lot of money on my hobby and I’m still not a professional and I haven’t entered any competitions. My hobby/obsession is more of an opportunity cost taking money and time I could be spending on my career as a graphic designer. Hobbies beat you down for money and if your not winning at it you feel worthless. Just adding my 2cents🗣👨🏾🦲

First, would you mind if I (on a different channel) included some quotes you said in a video a bud and I are planning out? When it comes to filming/editing I will definitely credit where it's due, if you're concerned with that. Second, since it has been 8 years, have you found any hobbies since this upload? Are they more of the same stuff, or have you adopted some new ones? If you did adopt new ones, I'm curious what got you into them. Thirdly, to answer your...decade old question lol. I've found myself enjoying the process of made up cartography, like dnd maps or stuff. I've always liked gaming and seeing different maps that other's had made up, thinking I could do that was a revelation. Writing, planning out video ideas, baking too! The list sometimes goes on depending on the mood, it seems. But yeah, very valuable video! Nice!
I also like to sing (even though I'm a begginer and not a good one) but I don't mention it not just because I'm afraid of not being good, but also because I live in a non-english speaker country and I only sing in english (I have a better voice and vocal range). If they are not genuinely interested they won't take the time to look it up. If they don't like it they usually don't mention it again.

I am realtively good looking can talk about almost anything do something for my fitness and have a good casual style and i am definitely not a creep but i really feel like a creep like hell. I really worked hard to become somebody who people want to talk to or even date. BUT!!... since i started working on myself everybody who gets to know me thinks that i must have a perfect life, mulitple exciting hobbies, something i burn for etc.etc.. There are pretty girls which are interested in me for the first time since at least 10 years. And i feel like a nobody because i do not have any hobbies nor im an activist which is saving the planet or something like this. ;-) It feels like cheating when talking to nice girls who are interested in me. I think " Oh girl if you would date me you would be bored as hell. Don't do it!!" I was at a happy with with some of my coworkers after work and one of the directors asked me what I do in my spare time. I seriously had no idea what to say lol
I feel a little better about wasting my life away. Having no passions to really share is such a pain. I always say I just "chill and hang out with friends". But that isn't true at all... (but can't be demonstrated :P) I see my friends like once, maybe twice, a month. But the issue I have recently been mentally struggling with (and thus ended up finding your entertaining video) is I really have no passion to share with a significant other... so I don't even bother dating. I just work on my career and that is it. Which used to be enough of a distraction that I could convince my mental demons that it was my hobby... but I recently bought my first home and find myself needing a new goal. I guess I can start going to the gym or something and make that my "hobby"... maybe a home gym. I still don't want people to ask what I do for "fun". +Jonathan Rodriguez I get where you're coming from. I rely on the people around me for hobbies. I do what they like with them from time to time. I hope you don't give up on finding someone to share your life with. I think you'll either find someone who has enough passion they can share, or someone like the people commenting on this video - people who want to come home from work to relax and be entertained and not much else. I think we are a whole sub group of people that don't get talked about - but that doesn't mean we're not here! My husband has so many interests that one of my contributions to our relationship is to make him slow down, rest, and enjoy. When someone asks what my hobbies are, I usually reply with something like I'm a pretty content person and prefer adventures once in a while to hobbies.
+Kim Bonnell thanks. I appreciate the reassurance. I do believe am a "supporter". I have minimal urge to do anything on my own because I am always content merely existing. But I love helping others with their passions or troubles. I have a friend who loves dressing me up in cosplay. I pay for some of the tools and materials and she makes me look good. Another friend I helped get his motorcycle license by going with him to the motorcycle safety course. Now we both have our license. My friends have a annual camping trip, where my truck carries a majority of the items. I bought the truck specifically to help with the camping trip. It has come in handy since then to say the least. I guess helping others could be considered a hobby. but, people always want to know what I do for fun. my answer is often whatever I feel like at a given time. Omitting the fact that I usually don't feel like doing anything. Anyway, again, I appreciate the kind words.

You seem content with life. Just my observation. I feel that many people who have numerous hobbies are trying to "fill the void." I've done a little introspection when eavesdropping on people's conversations (a hobby of mine) and said to myself "what am I doing with my life?"

I think it's because growing up I didn't see my family do anything with their lives either. I never saw my parents or my brother taking special time to enjoy themselves. So I learned that wasn't a priority or that it didn't matter. Mother cooked, cleaned & worked. Father worked & slept. Brother went to school, chased loose girls. That's it. I never saw them having friends, planning things. Hate to blame everything on my upbringing, but that's your first example.
I definitely agree the people you surround yourself with can shape your hobbies and interests!
I make stained glass windows, yet I seem to do this very little. I have been slowly, very slowly, putting together a series of 15" by 3' windows over the last year and I just can not seem to get myself to finish. I also make them for my kids. When I make free time I build furniture with pipe, things I have made are: loft beds for my kids, pool stick rack, foot rest at a family members bar, shelves, shelves with lights inside them(hard to explain that one without a picture), exercise equipment, ect. Time it seems is all we have, 24 hours a day, that is 1440 seconds a day, 86,400 seconds every day. Looking ahead it seems I always have a ton of things to do or get done, yet looking at my past I seem to get very little done. A hobby is really just a discipline, I feel I have no discipline. Yet people who see me, or know me have said at times that I get so much done, or that I'm productive, yet it never seems that way to me..... Not sure why I'm writing this here, maybe, just maybe it will help someone else.

Yeah I barely have hobbies, I wake up, go to school, maybe hang with a few friends.. but it’s so hard to have good conversations cause of this, I rely on any crazy stories I may have. If they ask me I just say I tutor middle school kids and do stage crew.. which aren’t ‘demonstrative’. I mean I’m only 16 so I have time to figure this out. I mean I think what’s the point really whatever I do isn’t going to have a lasting impact forever so I don’t really see the point of ‘hobbies’.... but I actually do tutor kids.. tutoring is my everything during the school year and in summer it’s being a camp counselor.. better than nothing.
I struggle with this a lot! I'm 21 and take a lot of vocal pride in my accomplishments, such as student clubs, leading my uni classes, and learning about things in my free-time. All of which I would consider hobbies but nothing worthwhile at all to talk about in a casual conversation. As an extrovert this definitely erks me because my impression on other people is generally firm and decisive, yet I tend to view anything 'relaxing' such as watching movies or doing nothing with my partner for a whole day ᵃ ʷᵃˢᵗᵉ ᵒᶠ ᵗᶦᵐᵉ. It's seeming like I'm showing early signs of being a workaholic, save me!!

I can relate to you so much! To make things worst, I have this super interesting husband who is into everything and is a big nerd, but at the same time is athletic and artistic. Everyone always finds him way more interesting and wants to be his friend and talk to him. Whereas I'm in the corner with little to no hobbies or things im actually good at and I don't even watch a lot of shows or pop culture. I did get somewhat into knitting and crocheting, and I was so proud of myself for making one bag I almost cried 😆. But I wouldnt say I'm an expert or super passionate about it. My husband calls me granny millennial because I do it on occasion.

Ugh... after I became a house wife I started to realize that I have no hobbies. Before I could just say I was too busy to have one but now, how can I protect myself from people who wants to know what my hobbies are 😝 well I gave myself time, slowly started to listen to myself, and tried to wake my inner ME to tell me what she liked before adult life swallowed her... I started to decorate my house, bake, cook, took piano classes( wanted to do it all my life but was too afraid of failure) , started to listen to audiobooks every time I drive somewhere, so I realized that I am not that boring, I just never listened to myself

Those are good hobbies to start with and great for conversation starters. You're at least into things that a lot of other people are passionate about (anime, books, series). I used to be into anime when I was younger, but for whatever reason just lost interest when I got older. And its weird but I am a tough critic when it comes to getting into book series and tv series in general. Like i dont like most things that are popular which would make me a hipster, but I don't identify as a hipster lol. I'm just boring because im not into the major fandoms that everyone else is into like lord of the rings,harry potter, star trek, etc. When i was younger, I was into Dragon ball z and Sailor Moon. Not so much anymore. All i do is knit a little and everyone i know calls me grandma lol.
Being critical of hobbies happened to me for a long time. It's like in order to mention something (e.g. Tolkien books) I've to know absolutely everything about it. Be a complete fan. Otherwise I feel like I'm just doing it to be popular.

Knitting seems like a very interesting hobby to me! At one time I did it, but since I couldn't find a pattern that convinced me, I never moved forward, I was always restarting the work!
I don't have a true hobby, I notice when I like to do something I succeed to learn as much that I can and succeed to be the best at it, and when I'm all "done" with it I don't have that same passion of it that I did in the beginning, I still do enjoy to do them tho.

I don’t have any hobbies. I have slight interest in things but I loose interest quickly, and on top of that I’m not good at anything. I’m not good at art. I don’t play any instruments, and learning something new is frustrating to me. Instead of relaxing me, it just makes me more tired and exhausted. I wish I could find something that I don’t loose interest and that I can legitimately be good at.

Hobbies are usually something you find in a hobby shop. I found radio control racing cars in my local hobby shop and quickly went to all the hobby shops in my area. Now I have three cars, a bunch of r/c car tools and parts. I’ve spent a lot of money on my hobby and I’m still not a professional and I haven’t entered any competitions. My hobby/obsession is more of an opportunity cost taking money and time I could be spending on my career as a graphic designer. Hobbies beat you down for money and if your not winning at it you feel worthless. Just adding my 2cents🗣👨🏾🦲

Second, since it has been 8 years, have you found any hobbies since this upload? Are they more of the same stuff, or have you adopted some new ones? If you did adopt new ones, I'm curious what got you into them.
Thirdly, to answer your...decade old question lol. I've found myself enjoying the process of made up cartography, like dnd maps or stuff. I've always liked gaming and seeing different maps that other's had made up, thinking I could do that was a revelation. Writing, planning out video ideas, baking too! The list sometimes goes on depending on the mood, it seems. But yeah, very valuable video! Nice!
I also like to sing (even though I'm a begginer and not a good one) but I don't mention it not just because I'm afraid of not being good, but also because I live in a non-english speaker country and I only sing in english (I have a better voice and vocal range). So if I sing, people won't have a clue of what's going on and are just gonna say "oh emmm cool"

Thank you for that video. I am realtively good looking can talk about almost anything do something for my fitness and have a good casual style and i am definitely not a creep but i really feel like a creep like hell. I really worked hard to become somebody who people want to talk to or even date. BUT!!... since i started working on myself everybody who gets to know me thinks that i must have a perfect life, mulitple exciting hobbies, something i burn for etc.etc.. There are pretty girls which are interested in me for the first time since at least 10 years. And i feel like a nobody because i do not have any hobbies nor im an activist which is saving the planet or something like this. ;-) It feels like cheating when talking to nice girls who are interested in me. I think " Oh girl if you would date me you would be bored as hell. Don't do it!!" All the development i did for the last 5 years is kind of worthless cause i just don'T want to bother a girl with my boring life.
