As a Swede it makes me proud seeing everyone pulling to the side - as you should - which means everyone in the right lane needs to slow down in order to let those to the left in.
Agree, I felt proud too ❤

09:10 On awareness, that truck with the red trailer stopped and _blocked_ the traffic to let the ICU truck pass before the merge.
Damn, didn't think about that. Very IQ and honorable move by the red trailer. License plate is German though, so no credit to the Swedes in this situation. We have to bow to the world champions of Autobahn manners and strategies.
@@Henkibojj Only the trailer has German plates, the tractor is Swedish.
Its funny to watch how a people from USA are surprised by this. First its common sense and basic human decency to make space and let emergency vehicles pass cause you never know when you will be the one being transported. Second, its enforced by law, here in Poland its not just traffic violation to not let them pass, its considered a felony/crime, you will pay fine, in extreme cases you will loose your driving license for 12 months and you will have to pass driving license exam again and if your stubborness on the road will affect people lives(person transported will die or firefighter wont get to fire on time) then you will end in prison.
good
Hi Tadeusz Przyszlak ! Its the same in Sweden.
In Sweden, and most of Europe, traffic is a teamwork, not a competition like in the USA.
Very well expressed! It's a completely different mindset.
When they exit the tunnel and pass the truck that was in the way the driver says "Tacka! Tacka!" (roughly translated to "thank [him] thank [him]" which I guess is an instruction to the person in the passenger seat to thank the truck driver. Made me happy :)
As a Swede, I feel I need to correct you a little bit. He said "Tackar, tackar" which translates to "Thanks, thanks" in English. He did that to thank the truck driver because he folded his mirror in for them to give the ambulance that little more space, that mirrors take up.
@@Jumbo_storm I stand corrected!
You didn't notice, after passing the roadtrain in the narrow section...
The other truckers blocked an on-ramp, so no other vehicule could make dangerous situations...
they respect each other. like bus drivers always saying HI with a hand motion when they pass another bus
Translated roughly the convo at the tight truck pass. 7 to 9 minutes in
Responder 1: I dont think i can pass him(the truck)... its going to be alittle.
Responder 2: Yeah its going to be alittle too tight.
Responder 1:[something]
Responder 2: Maybe now. Now it might work
Responder 1: Hell if i know, there is the poles also on that side.
Responder 1: Like so.
Responder 2: He's on his way up on the side now
Responder 2: This will work.
This is from the large road intersection "Gubbängs motet" (Macdonald place going north into Stockholm over one of its bridges and into the tunnels. This looks to be the middle of day traffic because it's really light. Had it been morning or afternoon it would have been choked. However there is a busslane going along the rout with the Macdonald that the ambulance most likely would have used.
Impressive awareness by the Swedish drivers. Onya!!
6:55 "that would not happen that gracefully and quickly in the u.s." i remember watching a video from emergency vehicles in new york i believe and they had like led signs saying "move over! it's the law!" ... yea i guess you're right with your assumption :D
Those Martin air horns are otherwise characteristic of fire brigades here in Sweden.
This particular clip is fun, incidentally, as it's all through very familiar areas; it starts at the Circle K (formerly Statoil) at Sköndal, and just before the cut at 4:00 the MICU is actually approaching the junction that leads to where I live.
I've seen the MICUs in the harbour where I work occasionally. Remarkable vehicles.
It's always fun when you check out things from my home country! Greetings from Sweden!
In traffic you have NO rights. Only obligations. With that sentiment there’s a lot less road rage. But sure we have a few pricks as well 🤣
The video starts quite close to my home and then goes into the city center and then out to Karolinska hospital or Danderyd I presume. I have not watched the linked video yet.
Awesome truck and video. Big thanks. We Swedes help each other ❤🎉
Not a double trailer. A Scandinavian tandem, they are pretty much the standard configuration of nordic trucks. 7:57
Usually 64 tonne.
The loud siren that turns on at 2:48 is called a martin horn siren
At that place with all those tricks I once came on the on ramp and saw an ambulance or something trying to get through, and trucks with nowhere to move. I decided to stop on the ramp so the truck could move forward (since there were no cars coming from the ramp) and they could then use that lane to move to the side.
it is the same sound from a fire engine when using a higher frequency of the siren
The "loud" siren is a pneumatic air horn, while the "quite" one is electric. The constant loudness of a standard four horn Martin signal is 125 dB, which is louder than the peak loudness of a Federal Q2B, you should be more familiar with. That's why you often see people covering their ears when a fire engine or ambulance is driving by in countries that use German two-tone sirens.
Fun thing, this video starts very close to where i lived as a child!
Where the video starts. Only like 500 meters before is where a live. This road (Nynäsvägen) is the road i take every day to and from work. 😃

You should look up Copenhagen Danmarks mobil unit, insane ambulance truck
I have driven this road many times, and yes my truck is smaller only 9.1m long, 2.6m wide and 3.2 high but seeing the emergency light coming from behind is stressful since if an ambulance you know it might be a matter of life and death and in some spots there is just no place to go, also in the tunnel with 2 lanes, had it been rush hour traffic both lanes might have cars standing still, would have made it way harder.
No wonder you are seeing a Circle K, i believe it's the biggest gas station chain in Scandinavia
Maybe they have proper driver training in Scandi countries.
Hi! From Sweden here!
The big rig he passed was a volvo truck
Here are two videos from the Midlands are where ther are several Motorways and Scotland from London to the North. Very busy roads and the Police are having to use Trucks (HGV) tractor units to monitor traffic. They find it easier to look inti cars and cabs.

In Sweden if you block the road for emergency vehicles, not only you get $150 fine but you could risk getting your drivers licens suspended for a few months.
I read its actually 2500kr (approx. $250) but I might be wrong on this matter. Most European countries have a fine for hindering emergency vehicles.

Every time I see emergency viechles here in Sweden, I get a profound feeling of gratitude to all the other drivers on the road; everyone is really doing everything they can to give way: up on curbs, sidewalks, running red lights (safely), etc., cleaning up the "mess" when there's no more sirens around.
Nice one! The electronic siren you hear first is the default Swedish siren, the loud one is added because it is much more clearly audible from afar. Really needed nowadays. Did you notice the amount of light coming from the front flashers, especially in the tunnel?
Of course almost every car you see in Sweden is a Volvo. The factory is located in Gothenborg, Sweden.
You now, it really is called Göteborg. ;-)
Excact same siren sounds in Germany on fire trucks and ambulances. They are usually called "Stadthorn" (city horn - the electronic siren with a more 360 degree angle, but less sound pressure) and "Landhorn" (country road horn - pneumatic, much louder but with general angle focused maybe 90-120 degrees to the front, so drivers on inersections farther away, and/or going higher speeds are alerted much easier; high sound pressure).
Yeah, the doppler effect works better with the secondary siren, which is based on the old Swedish sirens.
The louder horn was the sirens we used to hear on emergency vehicles before the electronic sirens came along. Firetrucks had them the longest. Cool to hear them again.
I was actually part of building this thing! 😊 Great project and alot of firsts!

They often warn drivers on the radio when this unit is out on the road too, so people are extra vigilant. It has hsppened to me twice.
People in Sweden have huge respect for authority like firefighters, ambulance and police. Sure there are idiots aswell but mostly its respect
I recognized every bit of that road... Have driven that many times, and in some places it is very narrow and nowhere to go. I have actually seen a firetruck drive 20-30 km/h through a street smack full of people (pedestrians), everyone just moved away and let them pass, that was during a firework/waterfestival in Stockholm in late 1990ies. Sometimes people can cooperate...
Thats my local McDonald’s in the beginning 😂 Spent to much money over three. Btw my mom has worked in that SCANIA as a nurse.
Funny you noticed the flags on the Circle K station. Circle K established themselves in Sweden by buying the station network off of the Norwegian brand Statoil when they pulled out of the gas station business. Part of the Statoil branding was that the stations should have a row of flagpoles. Now, what's the lowest number of flagpoles that could be considered "a row"? That's right, many of the station featured a row of three flagpoles. The day of the handover, the STATOIL flags came down, and the K flags went up. After two weeks, the middle K flag was lowered, at first leaving an empty flagpole, later adorned with some advertisement flag... 😁
Haha, I remember that and how some gas stations were late in replacing their flags. So they were flying ”non-politically correct flags” for several days.
I used to live really near a Statoil and I just got a good laugh together with my morning coffee when they changed their flags to 3 Ks 🤣
If you see an ambulance just remember that someone is really in pain and having the worst day if not the last day in theire life. You dont pull over for the ambulance you pull over for the person who needs the ambulance.
Respect for emergency vehicles is drilled into us when we learn to drive in Sweden. And in most of Europe. When you hear those sirens there is only one thought, get out of the way, at any cost. Rims and tyres can be replaced, a life cannot.
What’s critical is that drivers in traffic give other drivers the room to also get out of the way. You often see very differently, where traffic doesn’t cooperate and drivers block others causing the emergency vehicles not being able to pass as quite if at all..
european traffic laws💪💪👍👍❤️❤️
You will always get one idiot. Here most vehicles move right over to let emergency vehicles through but often there will be that one driver who either thinks the rules don't apply to them or they try using the siren to speed up ahead of the emergency vehicle (I've seen a few pulled over for that lark).
Regards from Ireland.
yea it's a lot of adjustment (in 2 dimensions). the whole traffic is like a single organism
lots of drivers stopped their cars at locations where there was no car on the opposite lane, so that the MCIU could "weave" through all available lanes.
that is also the advantage if the traffic law dictates to *"enable passage to emergency vehicles"* instead of _"stop for emergency vehicles"._
as could be seen, making space was only possible by continueing to drive, creating gaps for other drivers to merge, or also driving over red lights.
if all those cars would have stopped instead, they would completely have blocked many other drivers, and thus also the ambulance.
The first siren is an electronic "city" siren. Loud but not overly so. The second one is the "overland" siren, usually put out by two sets of two air horns, one set each for high and low tone. Those are very loud and worst case able to harm childrens ears.
Until about a year ago my volunteer fire department only had the air horn siren on our trucks and at night with little to no traffic we would only turn the sirens on a bit before intersections in order to not disturb the sleeping inhabitants.
This intensive care ambulance is as heavy as most regular fire engines in Switzerland. Regular ladder trucks at most volunteer departments are usually 16 tons. Just today I went on a drive with our rescue/pioneer truck (12 ton). We need to keep used to driving these trucks when usually all I drive is a Skoda station wagon if I'm not using public transit (train, bus, tram).
This truck's frame is also used for fire trucks. That's why the roads and traffic laws are made to fit this MICU in traffic in every situation. It's the same size
Thanks for covering my suggestion I knew you would like it. Funnily enough as I watched it originally I thought to myself if you do cover it you will definitely say something about the bright pink Mercedes.
As a truck driver i always watch my mirrors at a frequent rate to see what is coming up behind me, and alot of times i've had emergency vehicles pass me that i was aware of due to seeing their lights in the mirror, awareness is key, alot of drivers don't have that, almost ended up in an accident because of it
"alot" is not an actual word
Also have you ever been suggested to check out ghost rider , getaway in stockholm Subaru/ AMG 30 ? If not id like to suggest it

almost every week i put my car to eating grass...the road i use is the most used by local ambulance
In 1999 I worked in Amsterdam for my UK company for five years. Most of the time I wasn’t driving but I did hire a car a few times for personal use, the Dutch drivers are used to “Zipping” when one lane of the Motorway is closed. They all slow down on both lanes and the lane that remains open go slow enough to allow the closing lane to ZIP in one behind the other. Never saw this in the US or UK.
The same in Sweden.
Just as you saw, the emergency lights are all blue. Although, it is likely that they have some yellow strobes too.
In Sweden all emergency vehicles use blue only to clear the road, while police and customs can use blue/red combo to tell you to stop. So you clearly see the difference between if the cops behind you wants to overtake or stop you.
As I understand it, this veichle is a mobile intensive care ward rather than an ambulance. While the ambulance is staffed with paramedics who are first-responders, this veichle has doctors and nurses working on the patient while it is on the move.
Sweden is a large but sparsely populated country. Fully capable hospitals are only present in the major cities and some specialist units may only be found in a single hospital in the whole country.
Veichles like this make it possible to safely move critically ill patients from any place in the country to those specialist units.
This is for when a 30 minute helicopter ride would be enough to kill a patient.
Going to Karolinska.
Indeed he is, which is a bit odd since he started in the south near where the beltway could have taken him around the city and straight there but he went through the middle instead.
Dunno, maybe they don't use the beltway.
I expect him to go to the southern hospital when he drove into the city but he continued north.
You ask any African truck driver to choose between driving an American type truck a European type truck and they will choose the American. Strange isn't it.
Why? They say it looks better, whatever better means.
So thankful for our rigorous and hard tests for driving licences and the same for motor vehicles!
Its a real horror to see the badly educated drivers and totally insane wrecks of vehicles allowed in certain countries (no names...but you know who), big hugs from Sweden!
Sometimes I wonder if americans won their lisece in a lottery as they don't tend to handle their vehicles well enough to get license in Europe. use entra super space to handle and don't know the measurement of their vehicles. It's quite easy to fit trucks like that... not to mind the tight gap with that other truck.
If the dont move over the is a 300 to 400 $ ticket for a blocking a ambulance

The first signal sound is on smaller roads, than in the high ways comes in the second signal sound so all cars gets aside.
This is a normal rutine in Sweden.
This siren is called "Martin-Horn", or Martinshorn sometimes. It works with Air pressure.
This attitude is part of driving training in many European nations but NOT all. Think about it! Could be your family that needs help! Respect! Far too 13:10 little on the roads today. Do you know why you don't have Scania and other European trucks in the US and Canada? It's because in Canada you can't import them until they're 15 yrs old and US until they're 25 yrs old. Why, cos your truck building is that far out of date and couldn't compete.
There is really no way not to see or hear this thing in the tunnel.
If every driver realised that the emergency vehicles are in a hurry for someone's family maybe theirs .
I am also impressed of the traffic. That road part in Stockholm is stressful even without emergency vehicles trying to pass you ... :) But Stockholm traffic is quite friendly. It is easy to switch lanes if you ended up in the wrong one and coming from another road entering goes like a zipper ...

Driving here (in Sweden, but Europe over all) is an expensive thing, not only do you spend between 1000-3000 euros on your license, if you wanna keep that, you need to stay out of trouble, as something "minor" in the US is considered a serious offense and will result in an automatic suspension or revokification of your license or even arrest. One example of this is running a red light, this would be considered a serious offense, which results in a fine and suspension of your driving privileges for 1-12 months.
9:36 Looking at this I'm so happy Helsinki hasn't built tunnels into the city center. You have a F#¤%& motorway next to the shore. That would be the most valuable real estate without that motorway. It should be a normal nice street with pedestrians and slow traffic and a promenade next to the water.
I don't even understand the point in ambulance going you just jump out of the way, the person may be dieing... Some day your friend friend or family or friend may be dieind and you will to stuborn to let the ambulence go...
Had to drive up on the Siderail on the local big bridge to get the Firefighters and the ambulances through.
Its abit scary sitting with your Volvo 745GL with a 45 degree angle 50 meters over the sea, luckily for me i was alone in the car.
ofc the firetrucks was Scanias as im Swedish and a westcoaster to.
The reason i had to drive up on the Bridges siderail aka protection was simply due to it beeing under renovation so there was only 1 lane ope for both sides of the traffic to share.
and since it was during summer the time i had been stuck up there was 4 hours.
So basically it was either we get as much out of the way as every Centimeter counted or there might be fatalities.
Luckily everything went well, turned out to be a house on fire which had spread to a small forest to and since it had not rained for a month the situation was rather dire.
A Volvo cost about the same as a Nissan in Sweden. And Volvo is obviously then the better choise :)
SCANIA 🇸🇪 owned by VW Group Germany 🇩🇪
In Sweden you're taught to make space for the emergency vehicles such as ambulance, firefighters, police. If not then you might lose your licence for a few months and pay a fine. It's also allowed to drive past a red light if that's the only way you can make room for an emergency vehicle to pass. The only thing is that it needs to be the only thing you can do (think like one lane way with walls on the sides) and it needs to be done careful to not cause another accident with the traffic that has a green light.
At 4:29 was an Volvo V90. To me, at 11:00 seems an Porsche Panamera sw, not an SUV (Cayenne or Macan).
Sometimes here in Sweden the authorities will send out a traffic alert on the radio to all drivers in a region to give them advance notice of an ambulance needing a clear path ahead, when time is really critical.
You drive this Scanian with a bus driver's license as it has room for 11 people
