    Excellent video, wish I could like it twice. @9:08 in the video, you could use Combine tool, to make that cut faster. I've learned a lot with your video, Subbed.
    Combine
    Tool Bodies = Bottom of the case
    Target Bodies = Lid or top
    Operation = Cut
    Keep Tools = Should be checked.

    I`ve printed my own snap-fit case(w/ my parameters but proportions are nearly the same). I can confirm it works well printed of PLA. Great tutorial!

    Just found this video by accident, you used 3 or 4 features i still have trouble with and was great to see them in practical use. extrude on an angle, Sketch on an open Inspection Slice, Mirror feature across a plane, offset and shell. Wow that is a lot to remember. Plus now the GUI has changed a but too. But great lesson thank you i need to go see what else you shared now. D

      Maybe give it a try yourself? Modify his technique and upload a video yourself if it didn't work for you?
      He gave us an example to go off of. I'm happy enough with what he gave us.

      If you look at the pinned comment, it's me. I asked people if they would like me to print and they said yes! So, you can guarantee there will be a printing example here in the near future.
      Thanks for the support!

    Cool lesson, exactly what I was looking for, but I wonder if it really works or how well it works after its printed out. Would like to see a video of it, since I don't have a 3d printer yet. Still in the learning phase.

    Thanks for the useful tip and the clear, detailed steps. I just started to learn Fusion 360 to make a 3d printed enclosure, so this was immensely educational for me. I'm incorporating it right now! Cheers man!

    Hey Adam, great video, I just printed a snap fit model using PLA and it worked perfectly. However, I was curious to why the first extrusion with the -45 taper angle for the body was extruded out 7mm, and the second extrusion with the -45 taper angle for the lid was extruded out 10mm. Shouldn't they both have been 7mm? It worked but I'm just confused how lol.

    • @jordanlambrecht8207
      @jordanlambrecht8207 8 месяцев назад

      It doesn't matter because the taper will make them the same height. Technically you're right, but the result is the same.

    combine tool has can also be used to CUT, perfect application is those groves you wanted to cut but 10 times faster and more accurate. Or say you want a lip and groove or a key way. CLUTCH FEATURE to know.

    Hello! I've seen a couple of your videos on this now. Thank you so much. Quick question. I am planning to use ABS...would you change anything about the design or width of the snap fit tab at all? In one of your examples you used 3mm...in this video you used 6mm. My current enclosure is about 7.5x7.5x4 with 2.5mm walls (arbitrary) and 4mm for the width of those snap fit tabs. Do you have any recommendations for my specific set up? Thanks.

    • @adamtjames
      @adamtjames  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Printing with ABS should be fine. I thought I would provide you with a link to a chart comparing the strengths of PLA to ABS: downloads.makerbot.com/legal/MakerBot_R__PLA_and_ABS_Strength_Data.pdf
      4mm width should be fine so long as the snap and groove are both 4mm in depth, but I have not personally tried it. Let me know how it works!
      Cheers,
      Adam

    I would have subtracted the bottom from the lid, then offset faces to create clearance, then loft…

  • @bemenaker
    @bemenaker 2 года назад

    When I try to copy the inner edge of the bottom box on a sketch of the bottom of the lid, it will not copy the lines over. I can select all the lines on the bottom but they are not showing up on the sketch for the lid? Am I missing something here or does this not work in fusion anymore?

    • @bemenaker
      @bemenaker 2 года назад

      I don't know why it wouldn't let me do that. I finally just did it in two separate extrusions, the rim, then the open box with a double extrusion, and then joined those two as one. Being able to trace the other shape would be really useful though.
