One of New York City's favourite sons, Lou Reed!
You, my friend, deserve an award for uploading this. Thanks!
I gotta second this remark ! This collection is a real pearl !
Not only is this a fabulous collection of Lou's Letterman appearances, but I also like hearing the house band play while they cut to commercials.
This was glorious. Thank you. I thank God I walked the Earth the same time as Lou Reed.
Dave always had the best musical guests. This is awesome. I didn't know Lou did so many Letterman Visits.
yessir .. i was waiting for my Lou in Letterman side!

this kind of thing is getting me through this pandemic.
You need to get thru my latest vlog 20/5/07 its here for ever now.
I couldn't possibly like this any more!
A wonderful evening for me, thanks to you!
Rock and Roll is forever!
You know what’s really cool? Dave Letterman’s band seems to be lovin’ playing along
Of course!!!!!
I like his and Dave's long hand-clasps during many shows. Old devotion.
Hookywooky is such a banger track, all of these are great live performances!
Great Lou collection! Many standout performances here, especially Sweet Jane. Thanks a lot, Don.
48:30 (should someone want their Sweet Jane right this MOMENT.)
I had no idea he had been on the show that many times. But I remember that performance of Sweet Jane clearly. I'm so glad this YouTouber had such a high quality vcr, been watching hours of Letterman on here daily since i'm covid unemployed
Sunday Morning Possibly the most beautiful version i have ever heard and by the man himself lol almost mystical
Thank you, I've never seen any of these before.
This is Great!!! Thank You for posting, Love seeing Lou with Bootsy and Bernie Worrell!!!
The last clip with the Blind Boys of Alabama was the best...I was watching that night..Was watching most of them,,Love you Lou!
@jcw999
Also, the Blind Boys guest on The Raven album by Lou. I got the single cd version which is quite good.
@jcw999
Wonderful performance; and the dependence on Jesus Christ “to help me find my proper place” in Lou’s song is very moving 🌅🌅🎚🎚🙏🏼🙏🏼
I can remember when Lou appeared on Letterman promoting Mistrial. I never thought I'd get to see it again. Thank you Don, for uploading all of this.
*SPLENDIFEROUS collection*
This brings back great memories. I’m always amazed at the wide range of artists that Letterman had on his shows...and his band backed them up so well!! Thanks for all of your posts, Don!!
I recently digitized shows from late 1990. In three succeeding nights, the musical guests were Basia, k.d. lang, and Lou Reed. All backed by the WMDB (and some of the act's own players).
I, too, went "Wow."
Dirty Blvd!!! Maybe my fav ever Lou song. classic
Good work, Don! thank you
The great Lou Reed. Thanks for putting this together.
Lou so nailed it with NEW YORK....A busload of faith....stick a fork in 'em. They're done.
This just popped up on my feed and it is EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks for posting it!!!
This is some essential shit. Hooky Wooky was an absolute blast of a performance; smiling from ear to ear.
I was waiting for the "brooding and dangerous" comment. I remember that when it aired.
Thank you for sharing !🎉😭Miss you so much⚡
Thanks for keeping Lou alive!
Paul and the Band are loving it and Lou seems to enjoy it too!
I'm a huge Lou fan. I think I've every seen one of these appearances, except for the Dave Stewart/Bernie/Bootsy/Lou number. Such a treat to see a Lou performance I never saw before.
Easter egg: at roughly 102:09 The world's most dangerous band plays a good chunk of the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt. This was in 1996 *Italian chef's kiss*
great stuff
Gerty is true punk
What a collection, nice work! Also, let's all appreciate the elevator version of Wild Side around 45:22 :D
I saw all of Lou's Late Night performancs but almost never watched the CBS show. Thanks Lou.
Dang no tv like this anymore
Old Vegas is dead
Wow! What a great version of Bus load of Faith! So cool with the horns.
whoa, thanks for saving me the work exhuming tape boxes out of my closet!!
Jelousy was unexpected! Very cool T-Rex vibe, with some Jarvis thrown in. Just awesome!
Wish he sat down at least one time for a little chat.
he wasn't a chat person
LOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Legendary lou
Yes. Now we're talking. So sad that Bowie and Lou had to leave us so soon. I remember almost every appearance. Great to see these again. Awesome Don.
Stand out songs for me are 'New Sensations', 'Dirty Blvd', 'Sweet Jane' 'Sunday Morning' and 'Jesus'. He never sounded better but I seem to remember Lou playing 'I Love You Suzanne' from the 'New sensations' album and also performing the song 'Work' with John Cale. Am I wrong about that?
im not 100% positive but only Warren Zevon had more appearances, and of course Warren filled in for Dave during illnesses, surgeries, bail hears etc. lol dave did try to drive his italian sportscar at Autobahn speeds. .
Hey Kids, take note: the key to great songs. Keep them simple as possible, then get the best band you can assemble to play them
Damn, they fly thru this version!😍
*"what good is rain that falls up?"* 🎶
That's one hot performance of "Video Violence".
Lou=Legend
"Jesus" was worth waiting for. Wow.
@marcofalzone6469
Yeah, great song of worship that is great to hear this Christmas season (12-2023). I was a little surprised to hear Dave ask Lou: Did you write this? - as it’s one of the highlights on the third Velvet Underground album; but then again, maybe Dave was just trying to give Lou credit for writing such a spiritual song. Also, maybe check out Guardian Angel; a beautiful song on The Raven album.
I just discovered recently this collection of performances. I always knew Dave loved Warren Zevon through his many appearances on late night, and I’m now doubly impressed with Dave’s musical taste!
Fernando Saunders! Killing it
What Johnny Carson did for comedians by having them appear on The Tonight Show, especially if they were out of the spotlight for a while,Letterman did for musical acts! He gave multiple generations of viewers a chance to hear and watch them again or for the first time and make new fans of those viewers!
Preach it brother
You can’t depend on nobody
Oh my!!!!!!! 😁
Don, not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I remember a few shows after Lou was on doing "Sunday Morning", there was a segment, maybe a CBS Mailbag, maybe an audience Q&A, can't remember for sure, but it inquired about what Dave does during the musical performances, & it showed a clip of Lou's performance, with the guy doing tai chi, and then the camera pans over to Dave, and he is also doing tai chi...unless I dreamed that. In which case, I'll be honest, it was a pretty funny dream, & the bit would've killed. Please let me know if you can recall this as well.
Bueno, j'adore, I love Lou Reed
wow.. David Sanborn on sax .. (busload of faith) totally missed that if it wasn't for Letterman acknowledging him..
stellar version!
Sanborn sat in with the band more than any other musician. He was practically a fixture on Fridays.
Ate Sempre Lou
I've been looking for the Tai Chi clip for ages.
How does he regulate that feedback at the end of Caroline Says? For a few seconds it sounds like a two-note melodica sample.
Lou Reed and Michael Jordan. Pretty A-list episode!
It's also pretty cool to see a guy play his thighs on 'Ecstasy'.
My lucky day left YT running when i went out come back few hours later and this has just started Then wasnt going to watch it but got into it straight away there are some great versions on this vid would make a great album on it's own Awesome Sweet Jane ok we;ve probably all heard him do it a million times but it's still amazing Yeah all these companies releasing everything they can get there hands on I was amazed to see how many cheap cd's of Lou's shows radio as well outakes unreleased am sure some o them used to be bootlegs So this would be a great on LOU ON TV Quick budget album Yep some great performances
Life's Like - Magic and Loss is Amazing
The song is Whats Good, rather
I miss Lou.
Letterman should release the studio qualities of these
David Letterman really was a friend to Lou Reed
Lou Reed was misunderstood by some folks
Take a moment and review some of his history
He was really a genius in his own, right
Rest in peace, Lou
Dang lead guitar player saying get some”
Reminds me of how solid was Lou's 80's output
❤
Fernando Saunders!
The Man
Nobody gonna mention or give props to Lou for shredding it in front of Joe Walsh!? It’s funny because the clip right before „Warrior King“ I said the bass player looked like Joe Walsh. 😂
Will Lee.

Are you a Hal Sparks ⚡️ sparkler 🎇
The “girls” are happy indeed
I am of course referencing the African American community
Is that Buddy Guy on "Busload of Faith"?
It is. He played in the band the week the show was in Chicago.
58:31 this magic moment ❤
The people that replaced people like David letter man aren’t good
"Video Violence" sure sounds a lot like "This Ain't No Party, This Ain't No Disco". Not copyright violation, but I bet it's close. ;~)
noticed that too...
the bassist on 1988's New Sensations is sensational ! Who's he ?
Fernando Saunders.
@@dongiller thanks, I'll look him up !
Caroline says, candy says, Stephanie says Lisa says
Dave had the only good music on tv
For sure. He always invited good musicians
No-one's gonna mention Gerty?
Honestly I feel her version is better than the original.
@Jci Financial twas a joke
Absolutely splenderific...Gerty was sublime lol
such a frustrating musician. when he was great, he was great. when he sucked, boy, did he suck. and live he wasn't really any good
I think that with Lou? You come for the storytelling. It wasn't so much about how great of a singer he was.
@mm091540
I think he had a lot of great music over so many years. Also, I really like his singing.
Wrf is wrong with letterman. Clearly a guy who wants to be engaged and never a talk show guest
Timmy!
