The most nostalgia part was seeing a video explaining things in Windows Movie Maker. Reminds me of those "Runescape Music Videos" that were popular. Dunno if they still are.
In the past (and maybe even now?), random events clearly worked on some kind of timer. We used to do a lot of clan wars (as in clan vs clan in wilderness) and often when waiting for the enemy clan, we would all stay on one dot (20-60 people). Every now and then you would get a huge wave of random events at the same time. Some of them were pretty harmless but some instantly teleported you to do a minigame which kinda fucked up everything. I've seen people lose defenders, torsos and firecapes to these insta teleporting random events after they died (back in the day you had to retrieve them within 2 minutes after you died) and I am glad they are no longer in the game.
I literally remember when the strange box was color-coded, I was literally 8 years old then. That's CRAZY. I must have been playing on my super early main then, because my actual main was created the month of September 2004, and this event came out August 4th, 2004. But he says in the video it was only out for a few weeks...whether that means over a month possibly or not I'm not sure, but I'm glad I didn't miss that color-coded one. I nearly did just because of how young I was. Before the music update too...glad I experienced it.
You missed a fun fact off about the tangleweed random, when it spawned on surfaces like the port sarrim dock, when it finally went away it would take the dock tiles with it, thus removing HUGE chunks of the actual game.
just want to say they removed axe handles and stuff from the game. they dont exist anymore. I specifically remember when the update occured. you used to need a special kind of axe handle for a dragon axe, and it was worth a decent sum of money. when they removed the random event, jagex removed all handles and some people got angry because their dragon axe handles were taken.
The axe handles and pickaxe handles were all converted to bronze axes/picks when the update to remove the breaking of them happened. The broken items were tradable as well, I used to buy them off people who didnt know how to fix them for just pennies.
The real reason Pious Pete was discontinued was because of a nasty glitch that would happen and that is the even would block people from returning to the rest of the game. The event would block all spells including home teleport. The second reason was because the lighter he gave you looked just like the pipe bomb that blew up a school.
Hey Mote, I just wanted to send you some encouragement! I only found your videos recently -- but after over 15 years, you got me to try OS Runescape for the first time. I've grinded up to 60 Agility, so... I think it's easy to say I've put some hours in. Anyway, love your videos, so keep it up!

There's none left in the game because when they, along with the hatchet handles, were removed from the game, anyone who owned one was given a random event gift either in their inventory or bank, depending on where it was when the update occurred.
I remember this one bug, if you stayed in a certain level/area of the wild long enough, you would get every random event. I remember seeing one video an old video, I think on YTMND, a large group received them all. It was a pure chaos.
my favourite random event was the shade... i always wanted the shade robes since I thought they were half-invisible (like the shotly robes and the shades themselves) they sold for 30kish, which wasnt a small mount back then, especially in ftp they appeared when you buried bones sometimes
Killing the aggressive random events was the ultimate way to show how badass you were. I miss them so much, I wish that they were still in the game, I cant help but feel they took them out because they want money from bots / people made a big deal about it when they wanted to sweat skills.

That maze random event was so evil. I'm so glad it's gone. I remember I didn't log in for a week once because I was caught in it. I do miss the balloon animal event though. The song "In the Clink" worked with it quite well.
I think that the wise old assigns both the Maze, and the balloon animal one if you want to do it, I definitely know the maze still exists because I did it last week haha
Too bad they got rid of all the random events who attack you. I remember back in the days that if there was such an event, you were always hoping the skiller would die. Also the broken axe thing: everyone would always run to the place the top of the axe flew to in the hope that the one who lost it, didn't notice. It was worth quite some money back then if you found it :D
I still have 80 'random event box' in my rs3 bank. They came out when they decided to give out one generalized gift for any random event. Then, they dis-allowed you from putting them in your bank so you HAD to open it. I was able to collect 80 of them before that patch and before they discontinued them entirely.
If my memory serves me correctly all my broken rune axes and rune axe heads turned back into a rune hatchet, and the handles simply disappeared which would explain why they were never super rare items. I did a lot of woodcutting so I owned about 60 rune axes, and just banked all the broken ones and handles I lost the head to, and axe heads from a bot would go into my bank also, to later be attached to a handle.
Remember the evil twin when u have to pick the right 1? Or that oger who asks do u want to play pinball? Or th best one when u have to navigate through a maze as fast u can b4 ur prize percentage runs all the way down.
I honestly really liked the random events, it broke the monotony of skilling hours upon hours of the same thing.
