Hey Eric, Its kevin from Bath. Always a pleasure watching you work. Very thorough and precise. Tell Josh he did a great job on the alignment. Car feels tighter than ever. I'm glad you recommended the rear control arms and hardware. I screwed up & only ordered 2 adjusting bolts . Unfortunately I didn't figure that out until the day before I got the parts so I had to wait anther week. I ended up getting the trailing arms through Mitsubishi parts site which ended up being cheaper than Rock Auto. Funny thing though. I happened upon 2 other Mitsubishi parts sites and the rear front control arm with the balljoints were discontinued. I looked on Rock Auto and they had the rear front arm for twice what I paid. Still have to pull the brakes apart as Josh noticed the brakes were dragging. Such is life, the todo list that never ends. Thanks for sharing, Kevin.
@South Main Auto Repair LLC. Hey Eric, as a Nissan Pathfinder owner I can tell you beside the obvious issue that the car has and you are fixing it, it also I can hear that it has the classic fan clutch stuck on HIGH all the time. Maybe the owner didn't know something it is wrong with it, because it bough it used and it may be like since since she bought it, but I can tell right away the fan clutch it is stock on high and has to be replaced to help the MPG and to keep the car sounding like a garbage truck down the road. Those Nissan fan clutch has the tendency of getting stuck on high due to a rust on the front mounted coil spring that sense the temp. I will let your customer know about it. It is an easy fix and will quiet down the truck BIG time plus help to gain the MPG back.
Nice find I D. I noticed the fan noise too and can't stand those non-thermal fan clutches. The best clutch for a mechanical fan is a thermal type as they completely (or 80%) disengage the fan vs. the other version than simply limit the RPM of the fan when its not hot.

I had some dash work done at the dealer and I don't know how he did it, but I'm fairly certain the technician used his 3/4" impact to reinstall the screws in my dash and trim.
My friend bought his 2011 Pathfinder brand new it now has 110k miles has been perfect since day one BUT in the last 2 year's if it sits for more then 48 hrs the battery is dead! It's been to 4 Nissan dealerships and 3-5 small shops. They've spent about 4,500$ on it and no one has fixed it yet. They love it still it's in excellent condition garage kept

Its an amazon one... I had the same one sent to me and i had to pull the old one apart and solder in the new clock spring into the old housing. The new one didn't have the middle part to turn the angle sensor.. yup yup.
Some guys have a few tools, a couple of screw drivers and consider themselves a mechanic. You have just gone behind a couple of 'em. First sign of a fake mechanic is missing screws -- a literal screw loose!
Our 2008 Chevy Trailblazer does that! Almost got me killed turning left in front of a transport truck! Had to pull the traction control fuses (both traction and stability). Dealer said it was the steering wheel yaw sensor but no parts were available and once they were I decided it's way more fun to drive without the computer controlling everything, especially in the winter! :)
That other garage didn't compare the clock springs and all new parts, you always do :-D When i take anything apart i observe where everything goes and i take pictures just in case my memory is having a bad hair day, like it often does.
i believe the previous shop installed the wrong clockspring and what nissan calls a " spiral switch and combination switch assembly". on the pathfinders from 05 and newer those pieces you pulled out, the wipers and indicator switches are integrated and its a complete piece, i learned that when i installed OEM fog lamp kits on a couple of nissan trucks, rogue, frontier, pathfinder...
Great video. In my opinion if i had diagd the vehicle i would have reconnected to the CAN bus and monitored the angle sensor signal by manually turning the sensor with the clock spring disconnected.
The Nissan clocksprings come "complete" but need to check the new switches match. I've gotten new ones where the fog light switch was missing and the parts guys said that was the only one clockspring listing and there wasn't a separate listing for a fog light switch. Glad I kept the old parts and the old fog lamp switch still worked so I didn't have to fight that battle with the parts department. Not sure if there are other switch options besides the fog lights either.
as someone who has done something similair on my Nissan 350z i bough a new clock spring from ebay cause it was cheaper and it didnt have a locator pin for the steering angle sensor did exactly the same i bet thats what they did. you live and learn i guess
If cars could talk... The other “shop” with the 30 day used car warranty (aka Big Dick’s Used Auto Mart) sent it to his “mechanic” (aka Ugh-ah Doug), down the road who then had his “apprentice” (high school dropout wash boy) repair the horn with a 4’ pry-bar and 2 pound hammer who then somehow managed to screwed up the steering angle sensor. Ugh-ah Doug took his 1” impact and sawsall to the steering wheel and cowl to “diagnose” the SAS but gave up and told Big Dick the horn was fixed and sent it down the road.
Had a airbag light on my QX56, narrowed down to the clock spring. A seasoned Infiniti tech friend said replace the entire stalk (and the cost wasn't that bad either). Now I see why!
All the nonsense with the clockspring notwithstanding, as a Nissan owner I am pleased to see how modular their design is - Airbag pops out, multifuction stalks click in and out, etc. A lot easier than dealing with 19 different connectors, 11 screws, and needing a special factory tool that only the dealer has.
Hey Mr O, I was getting nervous when your were fondling with the steering wheel airbag and that mini prybar in your hand and the airbag accidently deploying and diving the prybar into you head. I feel confident that you know what your doing but accidents do happen. Please be careful remember safety third.
Are you sure that the Pathfinder didn't have the rare ADS (Automatic Drifting System) upgrade? Also, as an honorary millennial, I am seriously considering, as part of my on the go life style, if I should start taking my turn signal and wiper stalks with me when I leave my car .
Your lucky you were able to pull codes. The steering angle sensor on my Tundra shorted out and when it did it crashed the entire CAN network. No scan tool communication at all. All CELs turned on in the dash, the truck started and ran, but all gauges were dead except for the fuel gauge. Took me 2 days to figure out.
We build OEM entertainment systems for many of the auto manufacturers. For one we had to add a running motor sound features to drive an external speaker to one of the EV cars. This was the solve the problem that as the car glided along it was ultra silent and pedestrians would step out in front. It's amazing how much we use our ears to keep from getting run over. I tried to talk them into a horse sound but they would have no part of that. So I guess that's relegated to after market. I don't think our motor sound ever made it to actual production. Too bad. It sounded nice.
I have 2008 Nissan sentra with the air bag light on. I tried using the cruise control on the freeway and notice it didn't work. As I did more digging apparently the clock spring goes bad. The radio and other controls also don't work. Sometimes one button does. In short I need to go to the yard and find one but just haven't got around to it. So that clockspring may be it on this one too. Not sure the sentra has that angle sensor. I didn't see anything about that. The dealer wants and arm and a leg so it'll have to wait until I find one.
At 15:20 it looks like that notch from the clock spring is supposed to engage with the little finger from the steering angle sensor - just the distance is too large. So it really seems like a wrong clock spring was slapped on there that's for another model and doesn't have the necessary reach to engange with the SAS.
My wife’s Infiniti (Nissan) recently started doing something very much like that, though intermittently, and the internet, in its infinite wisdom, said the same thing. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with it since I would be in serious trouble if I scratched something in her car.
yea I went to change out the cabin air filter on my wifes 2016 forfusion and I tell you it was a pain.
