  • A brief comparison of Yuzuru HANYU (羽生 結弦) and Nathan Chen's (ネイサン チェン) jumps from season 2020/21 before WORLDS 2021! (4Lo, 4S, 4T+3T, and MORE!)
*I couldn't find the protocols for Las Vegas Invitational.

    TIMESTAMPS:
    00:00 Triple Loop (3Lo)
    00:52 Triple Axel (3A)
02:03 Quad Toe Triple Toe (4T+3T)
    03:32 Quad Salchow (4S)
    04:50 Quad Loop (4Lo)

Yuzuru Hanyu (羽生 結弦, Hanyū Yuzuru, born December 7, 1994) is a Japanese figure skater who competes in the men's singles discipline. He is a two-time Olympic champion (2014, 2018), a two-time World champion (2014, 2017), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (2013-2016), a Four Continents champion (2020), the 2010 World Junior champion, the 2009-10 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, and a four-time Japanese national champion (2012-2015). Upon winning the 2020 Four Continents Championships, Hanyu became the first and only male singles skater to achieve a Super Slam, having won all major competitions in his senior and junior career.
Hanyu has broken world records nineteen times-the most times amongst singles skaters since the introduction of the ISU Judging System in 2004. He holds the current world record for the short program, in addition to the historical world records for all three segments for the era before the 2018-19 season. He is the first man to have broken the 100-point barrier in the men's short program, the 200-point barrier in the men's free skating, and the 300-point barrier in the combined total score.
Hanyu is the first Asian figure skater competing in men's singles to win the Olympic gold. At nineteen years old, he was the youngest male skater to win the Olympic title since Dick Button in 1948. He also became the first man to win two consecutive Olympic gold medals since Button's back-to-back titles in 1948 and 1952. At the 2016 CS Autumn Classic International, Hanyu became the first skater in history to successfully land a quadruple loop in competition. He is the first men's singles skater from Asia to win multiple World Championships.

Nathan Chen (born May 5, 1999) is an American figure skater who competes in the men's singles discipline. He is a two-time World champion (2018, 2019), a 2018 Winter Olympic bronze medalist in the team event, the 2017 Four Continents champion, three-time Grand Prix Final champion (2017, 2018, 2019), and four-time U.S. national champion (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020). Chen is the first skater to have landed five types of quadruple jumps in competitions: toe loop, Salchow, loop, flip and Lutz.
On the junior level, Chen is the 2015-16 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, 2013-14 Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, and 2014 World Junior bronze medalist.

It's funny to see people naming the athlete "Quad King" for one can "land" quads. Guys, a quad jump of quality is not only about "landing" it. It's about difficult entry, CLEAN TAKE OFF, integrate with the music, axis (tight air position), etc. An athlete didn't fall from a quad does not equal a well-executed jump.......

@Tarot lilith linares...not all Yuzuru fans are terrible. I'm sure there are very kind, respectable Yuzuru fans but, as you can see for yourself in these comments, there are plenty of nasty/extremists who can't stand their idol losing and feel the need to constantly spread conspiracy theories and tear down Nathan in order to boost their own skater. It's kind of funny how some of them keep trashing the guy who can, over and over again, beat the guy they supposedly think is the best ever. You don't have to prefer Nathan. In fact, you don't even have to like his skating. At least show a little courtesy and respect. Everyone has their own biases and preferences. I'm sure that to your grandmother, to you, and to Yuzuru's other fans, he's the very best. Not everyone feels that way though.

Nathan can do more type of jumps than hanyu. But sal, axel, loop, toe, yuzu normally gets higher goe. Nathan always wins his skate with highest difficult jumps bv, which are flip and lutz. Hope yuzu can do flip and more consistent lutz in furure. Then only, yuzu can win over nathan, when both of them skate in clean programs. Im waiting for yuzu quad axel, nathan consistent quad loop too... Hope both of them stay healthy and skate clean in this world 2021.

Yuzuru and Nathan are both good skaters and can do jumps, no problem. But I watch Yuzuru's program repeatedly. Other skaters I watch once or fast forward.... I like to watch a performance that tells a story and has smooth flow , and Yuzuru does it. So no point comparing. Also Figure skaters' age, and jumping gets more difficult for them, due to accumulation of injuries and wear and tear on their bodies That is why figure skaters "retire" from competitive skating young. The body of a younger skater can do more jumps, that's a given. The difference is the presentation of the whole package, artistry, technical, music, overall look. Yuzuru has this complete package, that is why to watch him skate is like watching a concern, a performance, not just a competition. Of course, every skater can always improve on this and if you are an avid figure skating fan, you can watch and compare all of the previous skaters and compare how the sport has changed and evolved over the years. I do not want to comment about the Judging System of ISU, it makes my blood pressure rise, so i end here.:)

    • @rosevaliant
      @rosevaliant 3 года назад +36

Yuzuru’s 3A is much bigger than Nathan’s both height and distance wise. The entry Yuzuru does in his 3A, the back counter, is very difficult bc axel is a forward jump but he jumps it from a back entry which slows his pace going into it and makes it almost like a stand still. And the sound is mute in this but his landing is right on the musical note too. Actually Yuzuru’s score on that 3A is even lower than what he deserves while Nathan was fairly scored.

@@edzzzkie ... you are right, but it's not clean, in fact, it's a bit messy and it's boring to watch it. Personally, I prefer Jason Brown,I know he doesn't have the same skill of Nathan, but it's good to watch him on the "stage". It's only my opinion.
