A movie like "White Men Can't Jump" relied entirely on the charisma and chemistry of Westley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and Rosie Perez. The story itself was stupid, but it didn't matter, because it would be entertaining to watch those three sit around and talk about anything! If you replace them with three diverse modern planks of wood, ya got nothing.

Exactly I was thinking the same thing. They have learned absolutely nothing at all about what Star Wars is about or how to get the IP back on track. Star Wars used to be a money making machine no matter how god awful the prequels were even before the even worse Sequel trilogy. All you had to do was basically hire talented people who had a passion for the source material that's it. Instead they are still on the KK path of THE MESSAGE!!!! Have it female and make it lame and gay as Cartman said. It should be a cottage cheese industry like Scrooge McDuck printing money how they still manage to not get it is mind boggling. They need everyone to boycot the film so they have the worst bomb in movie history for anyone to actually get fired at Disney. Heaven's Gate x 10.
And why is it every time a female is handed a prominent position within they inevitably spouse “I’m the first woman to be in this role, and I’m so proud that I can represent all women in this space” or it’s about time a woman (and we’re going for intersectionality points here) of colour who just so happens to drink from the fury cup and is “differently abled” has a position of power within the yada yada f’n yada.
Supposedly they've fired Ryan for being uncooperative! Who would think that a talented rock star actor isn't a push over. Job apps much require syncopaths as a requirement for all male applicants.
@@dilbertjunkmail well the rumor is it was over money. Disney is looking to pay their writers less and Ryan had signed on to be a writer in future productions. He had a meltdown and refused to budge on his salary. He was supposed to direct several films too so if they lost him... they lost one of the few chances they have to save Disney. But who knows what he was asking for as a salary. It could have been ridiculous. He is a woke simp after all. I love his acting... hate who he is in real life since getting married.
That’s because they seems to be more concerned about shoving “the Message” down an audiences throat than actually telling an intelligent and engaging story.
@@earlofdoncaster5018 I'd agree with you, except in creating crap of this quality they aren't even controlling the narrative. Unless this is all part of some super big-brain plan to destroy wokeness by making it so absurd and despised that the general public rejects it entirely. Propaganda only works if people actually go and watch it, and with what Disney is doing less and less people are going to be at all interested in what they're peddling except for the mouth-breathing "progressives" who are already good little sheep anyways. So if Disney are trying to be propagandists, they are failing hilariously at it... so add that to the list of their failures for 2023 I guess
The new star wars director has stated that she enjoys making men feel uncomfortable, yet men are the majority of people that go tostar wars movies. She had better keep her resume current as she will get fired when that movie crashes in the box office. Get woke, Go Broke 😢😅
Fire every single corporate employee and executive that has a degree from an Ivy League university? That sounds a like a great solution to a TON of today's problems!
Are you saying that having an anti-Semitic, anti-white, anti-male, anti-capitalist, anti-western, intersectional perpetually aggrieved ideologue lowers the effectiveness and cohesiveness of your organization? Perish the thought.
The big problem for Disney is they hire young directors for large projects, supposedly because they're cheap. But there's the old adage about being "penny wise but pound foolish". Saving money by hiring inexperienced people who don't even realize all the mistakes they're making means you'll spend more money in the long run fixing those mistakes.
Those directors are not hired for being cheap, they are hired for being pushovers that are not supposed to have any meaningful creative input. Kevin Feige and Co. don’t want directors that would fight their input and that would actually try to make their movie. And Bob Iger already announced that Disney will add even more executives for oversight, reducing any risk of actual talent showing up even more.
Don't forget that it has to be female lame and gay to appease all the people who will criticize the movie without those things but never actual pay money to see it. They have to hire the ethnic minority directors to fill their quota not based on actual track record of success. @@davidgantenbein9362
@@davidgantenbein9362 From what I've read Disney doesn't really use the old producer system anymore. The producer was the one in overall charge of a project. They'd find and develop the script, hire the actors and director and then supervise them so they didn't start chasing every laser pointer/"squirrel" artistic inspiration that crossed their minds. The executives at Disney don't really understand the industry they understand the business if that makes sense. Like a lot of MBAs these days they know how to move the money but now how to make the product. They dump the development of the project, including the script, onto the director then give them notes about what they want and don't want in the movie without giving any useful advise on how to achieve the effect. So I wouldn't say they're afraid of directors that would stand up to their input. They just don't know how to give it in the first place.
@@davidgantenbein9362 Yep. Cheapness is probably also a good point, but the lack of creative credit and experience makes these creators easier to manipulate. They are grateful for being chosen, and they wish to prove themselves to the studio, and not for the audience. If they had been part of some blockbuster movie, even as an assistant, they would know how could a director work, what could they do to make their vision getting made, instead of bending to the wishes of the studio. Creators often need to be stubborn and aggressive to achieve their goals. If Lucas, or Cameron were pushovers, we wouldn't have a Star Wars or Terminator franchise now.
Three Men and a Baby has always been a favorite of mine. I rewatched it a few months ago and laughed about how "modern audiences" probably wouldn't approve of it now. I also forgot that Leonard Nimoy directed it. Spock had some talent in the director's chair.
Ironically my ex is a script reader for Fox, now Disney, and said she loves the benefits and hates the management. She's retiring this year or next and will be happy to leave the madness behind.
I wonder if anyone tells KK what a mess she has made, or do they keep her blissfully unaware of the damage. She's always smiling, so she must be happy, even if she doesn't deserve it.
I've consistently managed to succeed downward in my career, from getting laid off (multiple times!) because I was the most senior and highly-paid employee to never getting promoted because I'm too good in my current position to not even being able to get a job because I have too much experience. Watching all these people at Disney and elsewhere fail upward is incredibly frustrating. Like, nihilistically frustrating. Like, the Bible is right and there is no justice and the world really is mired in sin and corruption.
It is relatively easy to come up with simplistic answers like firing virtually everyone at Disney, but the reality is that Disney has put itself in such a bad position that they can't do that even if they wanted to. They are so cash-strapped that they are beholden to their ESG moneylenders, who would pull out if they sensed a return to sanity from Disney corporate. They've put off drastic action for so long that any attempt to course-correct now would spook the investors, which in turn would put whoever is in charge of the company in an untenable position. I don't believe that Iger has the guts, intelligence or foresight to turn the ship around, but even if he wanted to, I think it would be a doomed effort: The forces he let loose inside the company for cynical reasons are also what is making any sort of change virtually impossible. I think the company would stand a better chance at real change if/when the share price finally collapses, as it should have done years ago.
I agree they need more losses massive ones to finally get heads to role at Disney. I fear that with Fox's films making a profit that it will just keep those awful Disney staff still employed so the shit shoveling continues with endless garbage productions.
@@bartsullivan4866 Yep, that certainly seems par for the course. They'll claim credit for FOX's victories, try to blame the failures on everyone but themselves and carry on doing the same thing while expecting different results. Look no further than the latest Rey movie announcements to see that they've learned nothing.
It's such a shame; if anyone was rich enough to stand up to Larry-Fink/Klaus-Schwab, it was Disney. Nelson Peltz is already at the board room door, cleaver in hand, and Disney stock just keeps getting cheaper. At least we can hope some of the pieces end up in adult hands after he's done.
Whenever I rewatch an original Star Wars movie I always play in my head the 20th Century Fox fan-fair in my head. To me it is as much a part of the movie as the film itself.
*Paul: **_"...I didn't see any blockbuster experience in her IMDb CV."_* I would bet GOOD MONEY that in the future that will _still_ be her _status quo._
You're totally right. Disney is a shallow shell of what it was. I was watching this weekend Toy Story 3 and Brother Bear, and we realize those movies had a great story to tell. And now Fox shows they still know how to tella movie, while Disney forgot it. Also Disney stopped to make family movies, but that is a story for another time.
Remember it's all about diversity instead of actually telling a solid moral story. Even if it makes no sense to the region of the world your trying to showcase. Pander to the people who don't actually buy a ticket to your movie or watch your shows Ludicrous speed GO!!!!!
Brother Bear was very special: an original story, superbly animated, simply awesome backgrounds, an effective soundtrack (the characters don't sing!!!! 🥳), and very, very moving 🐻
There are plenty of relatively small things Disney can do to slowly build their reputation back up. Problem is they refuse to do any of it. They are on a bullet train headed for the broad side of a cliff and they are laughing about it.
How does this OLD man do it. perfect video and perfect audio. And he does not wear a stupid headset or has a GIANT microphone in his face.. Weird eh gen ZZzzz since he makes VIDEO not a podcast....... Thnx Paul :)
It’s only one specific instance that’s public domain, the 1928/1929 one. And don’t use the wheel on the boat, that’s not included. The others won’t come public domain for at least a decade, many longer. And there’s ample time between now and then for Disney to bribe, I mean support, Congress to extend it another 20 years. They’ve done it before. Twice.
"Never underestimate the power of stupidity" comes to mind. Although, it does seem that Kennedy acts like she is on a payroll to explicitly destroy Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney. But I think this is only because most reasonably intelligent people just cannot grok this level of repetitive stupidity.
I 100% agree with budget limitations. Hollowwood’s movie budgets are ridiculously high with little payoff. A Marvel Comics film costs around $400 million but why? Lack of discipline and planning. Godzilla -1 rumored to cost less than $15 million and it was an international success. Why? Among many other important aspects with the film making, discipline and planning. But within limitations you are forced to be creative and straightforward.
In my opinion the destruction of Disney is not from happenstance of horrible decisions, but an intended goal being achieved by those who cannot allow what was once 100% family friendly, traditional culture affirming entertainment to continue. If they could they would have dropped something flammable onto the whole thing and just left a burning cinder but it would've been messy and everyone would've noticed. The way they are doing it is slower, more palatable, but just as effective. Congratulations to those who have overtaken Disney’s once reliable family entertainment empire. Job well done!
I was scared af when Disney announced to make a new season of my favorite show, Futurama. And - to my shock - it kept its DNA! Not the best season but it wasn't bad at all.
@@greyman1104 They are. Soon enough, they'll be choking you out with the diverse, inclusive and equitable feminine benis of cultural Marxism. Mark my words.
Disney was in a similar position before, in the 1970s and 80s in terms of content. People seem to forget that they only had periods of "good" content. Eventually it will change
Agreed. The animated movies after Sleeping Beauty sucked until The Little Mermaid revived their mojo. Tron, The Black Hole, and The Black Cauldron were noble efforts that didn't quite come off.
This time, it's much more drastic and severe. Their failures of yesteryear pale in comparison with the sadistic glee with which they have actively and intentionally BUTCHERED the geese that laid the golden eggs. People will not forget. They will not forgive. Disney either repents fully, sincerely for these monumental idiocies or they go EXTINCT.
The only contribution that Dismal makes to my life is to provide material for Chato's entertaining videos. These I will follow until the Dismal Zeppelin finally crashes and burns, leaving no trace of ever having existed.
I admire your optimism. To look at such a steaming pile of dung and think it's in any way salvageable take a certain positive type of outlook. At best the industry vultures will pick the rotting corpse of anything that's worth more than a penny and distribute it amongst themselves. Maybe trot the Disney brand out onto the stage every once in a while like some old broken down freak show just to sell some novelty tickets before hiding it out of sight so people don't think about it too much again.
To be honest, I just care about the Fox Releases. They care about the medium and still under the control of Disney they are trying to offer fresh and interesting movies. You are so right, Twenty Century Studios really acts like a real movie studio.
Looking forward to another year of Paul Chato, the bespectacled Frantic himself! Things are shaking up in the world of entertainment and it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
Your suggestion could shockingly be right on. If they're forced to live in a tight budget... they'll starve out the junk because simply won't be able to pay the parasites.
If I were in control I would take a organizational chart of Disney, draw a line below the vice presidents, and fire everyone above. Then I would ask the remaining employees to voluntarily disclose how many followers they have on social media and fire anyone with more than 100 (sorry Chato, you'd have to go unless you were smart enough to keep your mouth shut.)
there are also no writers at Disney who are capable of actually writing a coherent script with clear plot and character development that doesn't require scrap-booking the filming and major rewrites and reshoots after production in "finished"
Sorry Chato but this is an inter galactic hijacking ... D. C. Fontana shaped science fiction in the 1960s working on TOS Star Trek as a writer she was there long before .. and thank you happy new year love your perspective
Paul, I directed movies at Fox from 1999 to 2013 including “Behind Enemy Lines”. “Max Payne” , “The Omen 2006” (sorry if y’all hated all of them) but I can tell you this : the folks , men and women , that ran that studio were film geeks down to their bones. I remember having a fun debate with Tom Rothman over Abel Gance’s “Napoleon” as it applied to Kubrick abandoned film. Nobody could beat Rothman on movie history, it was legendary. And they were absolutely obsessed with hitting their numbers and it was wonderful : “here is the budget, don’t ask for more, here is the release date, we don’t move, now get on with it…”. Sure, it was a machine - but it was a movie-making machine, not a political wood-chipper chute….
It’s pretty awesome to hear from a Director who worked on those films, and to see you guys do keep an eye on what the ‘tubes’ is saying. Frankly .. we all moss the good old days of Hollywood filmmaking when budgets were under control .. men were MEN .. and the misandrist crap just wouldn’t fly. I hope Paul sees you’re comment and has you on for an interview. I’d love to hear more from you.
Yeah. Disney still on the road to destruction. Great take and right Chato. I was writing a killer Predator script called Predator: Lacandona for Gina Carano as the lead going up against a Predator in the vein of the 1987 film - and with a surprise return of a character from that film. Not who you think! The money would have rained from the Sky. Disney fired Gina. But went on to write APEX for her. Just a different group of Predators. 👏👍
It's funny you mention it at the end, because with rare exception I only consider films and shows that have that Fox fanfare to be proper Star Wars. I long for the day that we might have that happen once again.
Disney and all the other Hollywood companies with no soul shouldjust hand over all of their film properties (fr free) to Japanese filmmakers, because they actually still know how to make films
When Lucas sold his company to Disney I said he should have sold it to Toho or another Japanese studio because they would treat the property with respect and creativity, and as Lucas had been so inspired by Japanese cinema it would have been a great gesture in return. Of course Americans balked at the idea when I said it outloud. Now how are they feeling? Watch the Japanese trilogy 20th Century Boys and you can see how great it would have been.
"I just fixed Disney!" Oh, so you borrowed the catapult from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and ejected the ENTIRE Disney Board from Burbank? It's only a a flesh wound, Mickey. Your stock ISN'T bleeding out in the year you lost copyright protection on "Steamboat Willie"!
The only way to fix Disney at this point is to replace over half the board. The entire thing is stacked with Iger's yes men and have no intention of changing things or making profit as stated in their letter to the SEC.
At first when I saw the title "Mufasa" I thought Disney decided to make biopic about that fun Zimbabwean cannibalistic commie dictator. But then I remembered that his surname was Mugabe, silly me. But what a missed opportunity for Disney, just think about it!
My response to that new director is: Actually, it's about time we had a woman create her own ip; world build, tell an interesting story with interesting characters rather than the cheap tricks of ruining the work someone else created or fan-fic it. It's neither "stunning" or "brave" to destroy someone else's work.
Yes, finally! I’ve been pondering for years on the feasibility of pooling together a crowdfunding to buy, in my case, the rights for The Lord of the Rings. If the price drops enough, we might actually be able to pull it off.
As of this year Tolkien's work is public domain in China and many other countries in Asia, as well as New Zealand. Their copyright laws are for life plus 50 years.
1:49 Does this show Disney are beyond saving. They have a death wish, and despite having been destroyed with failures this year. They won’t stop with the self destruction.
Hey Paul! You reminded me of how different it was to hear the 20th Century Fox music before the Star Wars movies begin, good times, before the blight set in...
Bad selling points: "Our story is unique and amazing because of our protagonists race, gender, sexuality and another not so important empty characteristic!" Good selling points: "Our product is about characters who will go on an adventure which will challenge them and it's story will evoque emotions and messages that ultimately we all can empathize with and hopefully might make you think, but it's real purpose is to entertain and make money" Case and point, good entertainment gives good stories, it doesn't parade a story as good because of one menial trait a character has, specially one that not everyone shares.
They're not interested in fixing anything. They are determined to make fans drink the bitter medicine and are committed to do it for as long as it takes.
I wish someone would make a video explaining Disney's decision to consolidate all their acquisitions. Many umbrella companies own lots of small businesses so they can appeal to multiple markets. Out there somewhere is a corporation that owns a steakhouse chain and a vegan smoothie chain, or a magazine for new mothers, as well as car magazine for gear-heads. They know quite well to keep the companies separate so they can keep and appeal to all of their customers. Disney has taken all their companies: Disney animation, Pixar animation, Hollywood studios, touchstone studios, lucasfilm, and fox and mashed them all together into a magazine for new mothers who want vegan smoothie shakes (they decided that gear heads who want a steak are bigots who don't deserve service). Putting all eggs in one basket is a huge financial no-no. Alienating a loyal customerbase is also financial suicide. Why do this? I disagree with your thesis, Fox can't save Disney. The result is certain: Fox will be absorbed and put under the same Disney politics and policies or shuttered because all they really wanted was the copyright and distribution to certain legacy media. But I still don't get why, its so weird.
The MBA's at Disney see smashing all the sub brands together as a short term way of cutting costs and therefore a way to maximise profits but completely fail to see why keeping them separate and having some duplication of costs is actually more financially beneficial in the long term. This has been a problem with these MBA types for a few decades now all across the corporate world. Once the MBA's are in charge you're company is fucked, especially if it's publicly listed.
Did Sound of Freedom ever get a physical release or a even a digital release?! I want to own it for mostly physical copy reasons. You know, to support the filmmakers of sound of freedom. Because the theaters and big companies went out if their way to silence a movie showing the evil pedophiles at large and saving like 28 29 kids of a constant life of hell.
Obviously it did 😒 I have no idea why numbnuts keep pushing this idea that the film was in some way "hidden" or "embarrassing" for Disney. They shelved it because they thought it was a crap film, which it mostly was, but to their surprise it did quite well. So we'll that they had no distribution plan, which led to a delayed worldwide release. There is no secret cabal of Speedos trying to keep people from seeing it.
While Ryan Reynolds likes to be true to Deadpool, and he is funny, he's also shown he's likely to allow wokeness into the movie, so I'm not holding my breath.
This is part of the reason why I don't want WB buying Paramount - I don't want to lose Paramount like we lost 20th Century Fox! We need Fox back! Disney is too big and is monopolising the culture!
fixing disney would require a firing of a lot of DEI, diversity hire, activists, and the woke collaborators then raising new talents that can make stuff with discipline. cause the only one in disney i know of that i would entrust a budget and leave to make a good film is ryan renolds. unfortunately from the sounds of it iger and the activists in disney cannot allow renolds to make them a successful film if rumors of studio interference are true.
Dogs and cats go to the vet to be ‘fixed’. Maybe the mouse could be next on the chopping block. They/them would have first hand experience of the gender identity issues they are forcing on us.
I thought the Mouse was unassailable after buying up so many media entities. Every popular entertainment character was in their thrall. I visited Disneyland during it’s 60th Anniversary and its Grand Parade was like the Triumphal March of conquered armies. But nine years later Disney has gone from ‘Too big to fail’ to ‘The bigger they are, the harder they fall.’ Maybe it’s for the best.
Deadpool 3 MIGHT be a good movie. If so, it absolutely deserves to see wonderful holds at the box office. But if we're _expecting_ to get a good movie from Disney at this stage, if DP3 (good or bad) sees a huge opening weekend, then we're all morons who totally deserve another decade of woke slaps in the face.

Never have seen a company reward crap the way that Disney does, if a movie loses money at Disney it is seen as a success by Disney upper management!
They care more about controlling the narrative than making money, or good movies.
@@earlofdoncaster5018 Absolutely This, hoping this “Dei” narrative is accepted by the children especially

It's also clear they are hiring DEI directors, who also have little to no experience directing a big budget, mass-market movie.
He was an amazing photographer, too. A very visual person who understood storytelling.
Don't get me started, Leonard was a great guy

Disney must have the best copium in the business.
I’m certain that a thousand people have told her. I’m equally certain that she never has believed and will never believe any of them.
I Have Heard there is Something called Xanax, i think she buyes that in bulk.

Iger is to Disney is what Gorman is to the Colonial Marines.
I have to know how all the money lenders became so ESG focused? How did they end up with all the money?

You're totally right. Disney is a shallow shell of what it was. I was watching this weekend Toy Story 3 and Brother Bear, and we realize those movies had a great story to tell. And now Fox shows they still know how to tella movie, while Disney forgot it. Also Disney stopped to make family movies, but that is a story for another time.
MUCH love for Brother Bear and I'm glad someone else appreciated that story. Total surprise to my family when we saw it in theaters. Loved it.

Mickey Mouse is now PUBLIC DOMAIN
I'd say the problem is soon to be fixed.
Twice.
Just a version of him - the Steamboat Willie version.
"I can fix her!" -Chato
Get out of the relationship while you still can, man lol
I 100% agree with budget limitations. Hollowwood’s movie budgets are ridiculously high with little payoff. A Marvel Comics film costs around $400 million but why? Lack of discipline and planning. Godzilla -1 rumored to cost less than $15 million and it was an international success. Why? Among many other important aspects with the film making, discipline and planning. But within limitations you are forced to be creative and straightforward.
Japan didn’t have ESG quotas tied to the production, or any members of the tiny headgear guild involved.
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks.
Paul Chato can fix this Disney - he’s our ONLY hope!
Hi Mike. I completely missed this. Do you want a refund? Thanks as always.

Disney is like radiation to film franchises it smashes them atom by atom.
"Intersectional vivisection". What a great phrase! I will use it thank you
Your suggestion could shockingly be right on.
If they're forced to live in a tight budget... they'll starve out the junk because simply won't be able to pay the parasites.
Most movies would be improved if their budgets were slashed 75%.
Its at the point that AI couldn't do worse...
When a computer can be more creative; just shows how well programmed these activists are...
I think Marcia Lucas just coughed into her coffee when she heard the new Star Wars director's comments.
I was thinking more along the lines of tactical nuclear weapons. Just a couple in the kiloton range.
I love you Chato. You're making sense. Thank you.
Disney no longer worry about film budgets and profits. They determine success by how much "the message" is pushed.
“Mis-shapened mess”. THERE’S the euphemism I’ve been searching for. Thanks, Chato!
I always sensed a strong American pride about Star Wars. Perhaps like American football. @@WaterShowsProd

Wait, Mugabe was cannibalistic???
My response to that new director is: Actually, it's about time we had a woman create her own ip; world build, tell an interesting story with interesting characters rather than the cheap tricks of ruining the work someone else created or fan-fic it. It's neither "stunning" or "brave" to destroy someone else's work.
Very few of them can do a good job of it. Most of them are bad and fail.
Yes, finally! I’ve been pondering for years on the feasibility of pooling together a crowdfunding to buy, in my case, the rights for The Lord of the Rings. If the price drops enough, we might actually be able to pull it off.

Hey Paul! You reminded me of how different it was to hear the 20th Century Fox music before the Star Wars movies begin, good times, before the blight set in...
Disney Corp. hasn't run out of other people's money yet.
That which is dead cannot be saved. Hence Lucasfilm and "Star Wars"...
Valid points all, Paul. Too bad we both know they will never be considered, much less employed for salvation of the company.
I think we should start a petition to get Chato firmly ensconced as the head of Disney...
Bad selling points: "Our story is unique and amazing because of our protagonists race, gender, sexuality and another not so important empty characteristic!"
Good selling points: "Our product is about characters who will go on an adventure which will challenge them and it's story will evoque emotions and messages that ultimately we all can empathize with and hopefully might make you think, but it's real purpose is to entertain and make money"
Case and point, good entertainment gives good stories, it doesn't parade a story as good because of one menial trait a character has, specially one that not everyone shares.
They're not interested in fixing anything. They are determined to make fans drink the bitter medicine and are committed to do it for as long as it takes.
Personally, I'd just like Disney to disappear into bankruptcy. There's no entertainment in their movies now, it's all just messaging.
As the Borg put it, resistance 8s futile.
Yeah, Fox is Fucked
I’ve seen it on DVD and maybe Blu Ray?
Obviously it did 😒 I have no idea why numbnuts keep pushing this idea that the film was in some way "hidden" or "embarrassing" for Disney. They shelved it because they thought it was a crap film, which it mostly was, but to their surprise it did quite well. So we'll that they had no distribution plan, which led to a delayed worldwide release.
There is no secret cabal of Speedos trying to keep people from seeing it.
