Can we appreciate the subtleties in how efficiently Levi responded to Reiner appearing? He went straight for the throat, pushing him downward to send him flying into the ground, then detaching the blade so he couldn't heal then going straight for the heart, and then pulling the blade out without detaching it as soon as he realized Reiner was alive to conserve resources. Man had the whole thing planned out and was ready for it the second it happened.
It wasn't even planned out. Everything happened quickly and his reflexes are on point.

Man, that was actually the final classic battle of humans vs Titans before the world of AOT was flipped on its head. The final and the best one... the music, the tension, the atmosphere, the stakes... I wish I could've wiped it out of memory to watch for the first time again.

It would have made a difference, but probably not a huge one. Eventually the Beast Titan would have thrown Bertholdt over and he'd have been able to nuke everyone without hesitation.
@@Waterbottle_s exactly. One thing that always comes to mind when I watch/read this battle is how Bert could have ended things instantly if he just accepted Reiner as a casualty, but he opted to be a friend and save his life.
That's not necessarily a bad thing or something i'm complaining about either. It's just one of those choices that a character is presented with and he opted to save Reiner.

One of the more startling details about this scene is when you rewatch the beginning of this episode. It's when the scouts are arriving, if you pay close attention to the ground 🔍, you'll see tubes sticking slightly out of the ground. The idea that Reiner bertholdt and Zeke buried all those people two or three feet under the ground a day or two in advance is terrifying. The thought of being semi buried alive under the ground not knowing that this will be the final moments you will retain your humanity is scary stuff 😨.

@@lucianomeira8392 , I'm not exactly sure how Zeke was able to achieve that 😕. However, he has demonstrated the ability to transform people without having to be in his beast Titan form by merely yelling. So perhaps he did that prior to transforming, but really who knows? Good question.

The elegance of the beast Titans stance once he transforms just speaks to that moment where he’s so differentiated and perfectly captures the essence of his power and breakage of a typical titan shifter. Avery time the other Titans shift it’s a perfect standing stance but for some reason seeing Zeke stand like that with the glowing eyes gets me every time. Sheesh
Can we just talk about how simple and effective the shot of the lightning strike behind Erwin is. It strikes in the distance so you see it before you hear it but Erwin has his back turned so the audience recognises it first and you are given a split second to process if you just saw what you think you saw before the characters react and it is confirmed. Really adds to the flow of tension.

This is when you know a masterpiece is taking place.

This is probably the last major battle where the players we still in the same place. The so called good guys and bad guys had been the same throughout. Then the show jumps the shark over and over. We eventually find out that these are all Eldians, that Reiner and Zeke are attacking their own people on behalf of the enemy.

2:02 I love this shot and the slow movement as well as the sound. You get the idea how big and strong the beast titan is and also this scene definitely has the "final boss battle" vibe. The red eyes was definitely a great touch.
The way Erwin hype the battle for us was so damm great...

Just love how Levi reacted so fast and everyone else was in shock, but when Levi stabbed Reiner, Erwin already switched back to that calm poker face with his trust to Levi while everyone else was still in the wtf face. It's like "oh Levi is on it then it's fine" type of trust that is exclusive between Erwin and Levi.
One of the most perfect scenes i have ever witnessed in every series, game and movie i have ever seen.
