Why do people keep saying he is not used to the new ODM gear. Dude literally used it at the port fighting the Yeagerists, even Annie that hasn't moved her body for years can use it well the first time. Also, Reiner probably had the chance to use the new ODM gear after the Scouts invaded Liberio, they must have recovered the new ODM devices from the dead scouts and Reiner is the only one that knows how to use it and must have demonstrated it to the Marleyans. The animation here is not to show Reiner not being used to the gear, but to show his resolve thrusting himself at the beast titan at full throttle. Keep in mind, full throttle is not something easy to do and probably only Ackermans like Levi and Mikasa can do it. There is a reason why Levi can move and fight so fast, its not like he got magic powers to propel himself. He is obviously using a higher burst of gas and is able to control it. Mikasa did it too in the first season when she thought Eren died and she was rushing to her death, Armin and Conny couldn't catch up to her. It seems ordinary people cannot control the full throttle without losing balance. Reiner may be strong but he is still a regular human compared to Ackermans. This scene is done to make the Reiner's resolve look epic af as he roar and thrust himself full throttle at the beast, its made even more epic when the music is sync to his transformation.

And how he gets the entire team there in relative safety despite the beast titans bombardment. Hats off to this dude. But the rest of this fight is literally *chefs kiss* perfect, from start to end.
I do agree it’s plot armor since that’s how the writer wrote the story but it’s that intense illusion of harrowing the end and what’s gonna happen that really makes it.

It’s honestly hellla impressive Levi is even out there on the front lines let alone using Odm gear. He makes it look fairly easy but it isnt he’s half blind and doesn’t have all his fingers. Levi may not may not be humanity’s strongest soldier now but the little guy damn well refuses to die.
Kenny was the same, Levi cut his stomach open and the Rod Reiss Titan burned most of his body but he was still able to live for a while even in that critically damaged state. Ackermans have this incredible godlike warrior build which let's them transcend the abilities of normal or even advanced soldiers. Now imagine an entire army made of Ackerman bloodline soldiers. Mikasa was still a youth the first time she saw Levi's full power against Annie and then realized she would not and could not be able to take him. The only reason she tried over the serum was because Levi was beyond exhausted after fighting Zeke's army and chasing him down. After the time-skip I'd ssy she's almost as strong as Levi but still falls behind in terms of focus and skill.

From the heroic speech of our once shy and unsure Armin to the truth at the height they're at it takes a couple seconds for your senses to adjust (Armin getting the ringing in his ears) to the thunder spears being placed at the angle for the epic descent but truly sends it for me is the fact Levi isn't interested in having anything else but his beloved blades. Fulfill your promise to Commander Erwin that day at Shiganshina; Captain Levi!!
Want to just mention, the parallels from this to episode 1 of aot are crazy. Eren wasn’t able to save his mom from when Reiner attacked, while Reiner has a chance to actually fight and save his mom from Eren
Look at how much these characters have progressed. The Beast Titan who's throwing decimated dozens of professional scouts in Season 3, and Jean, Mikasa, Connie, and Armin are nimbly avoiding them without much trouble. It's a lot of perspective.
