I've met and talked a bit with Neal Adams. He seems to think differently.
While he certainly draws the same way, outlining muscles and the human figure in a very classic way, he prided himself in being an actual costume designer. He mentioned he created actual costumes for teathre and cinema. And he said that he approached superheroes with the same mentality. When he created costumes, he thought of them as something that might have been actually worn by a superhero, which means he added pockets to store items, he made boots strong and with reinforced soles, like military equipment, etc.

Alex....I remember your work, I was in high school and it was like a kick in the stomach. Everyone else had their art and then you came on the scene. All the Marvel stuff and then Kingdom Come. Man, I use to reread that every year or so.
Glad you are RUclips. Always a fan.

...I can imagine perfectly poor Alex Ross taking pics of himself for his drawing reference photos, dressed in a tight blue spandex suit in a sunday afternoon while thinking for himself: "...Hell!...The things you have to do for art´s sake!" XDD Great painting, by the way!! ;-)

You make a very good point about the costumes. There is a RUclipsr called Patrick Willems that said when the first X-Men movie came out they felt like they needed to make a lot of excuses as to why they would even need to wear uniforms but now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe you can just kind of bringing the character in their uniform and just say this is how they are. It's great that we've gotten to that point I think
