I honestly don't think he would have got so big/famous if it weren't for the comment section. Here we feel like a community, sharing ideas and jokes and comments on the new ideas that are being presented to us. With spotify it just seems so hollow and empty.

I currently work as a biologist in academia. Once I move I will probably leave the academic setting and try to get into the private sector. Anytime I question anything I get labeled as a “science denier” or a “conspiracy theorist”. The problem is that science is supposed to challenge dogma, but it doesn’t anymore. It only confirms what the researchers bias is because they cherry-pick the data that they want to put forward. When scientific publications endorse any political opinion or candidate (Scientific American) they immediately lose credibility.
I've been saying this for years. The academic community is so politically bias that even if a study found with 100% certainty that something generally accepted was false, you'd be shamed and censored into the ground before they'd recognize it!
thats not how science works. the scientific method prevents biases. people can be biased all they want but they arent going to get their theories published on journals without it going through the scientific method

As a PhD scientist who has been in academic medicine for over a decade, this is an entirely accurate assessment of academic medicine and science in general. There is a bullying group-think that discourages innovation. One need look no further than the COVID dogma, in which alternative treatments to the profitable vaccines and expensive medications that are being pushed (doesn't the government, media, and conventional medical leadership promotion feel "salesy?) are aggressively dismissed, often with character slander. While scientific tools are powerful, the scientific system is as broken as legacy media.
Closed-minded scientists become part of the problem instead of seeking the solution when they allow politics, pride & prejudice hinder scientific progress. The culture in the scientific community needs to change, otherwise they'll be no different from the Catholic tribunal that handled Galileo's case.
I often wonder if this isn't just human nature. I squawk about a few things that seem to really piss people off and for reasons I'm not even sure. Like Solar mechanics for example. I recently postulated that the sun is in fact a positive anode in a sea of negatively charged particles as seen through Birkland currents/ electric radio telescopes. This of course is speculative and I even gave a disclaimer as such. Man, you should've heard the people freaking out on me. Why? Are we so entrenched in our scientific dogma that we cant even entertain another model? I even went on to try to explain how the surface is far cooler than the corona and the deepest depths of the sun spots even cooler yet suggesting, to me at least, that there is an external component to its fuel source. Wham!! Yelled at further and accused of disregarding actual science. This of course is not the case. Mainstream academia's tendency to demonize anything that doesn't fit their specific model is a travesty and a hindrance to our collective progress. There is an important intersection between "the ego" (the need for social validation/ acceptance), and the intentional confinement of scientific/ academic discussions because of specific economic interests. Intellectual curiosity is no longer prioritized in academic circles; the emphasis is merely the concretizing of consensus.
When people build a career on a theory it becomes very hard for them to accept any new data that would undermine the theory on which they have built their reputation. Scientists should not fear being proven wrong, that is why you do peer review, to try to find where you were wrong, but human ego gets in the way.
The idea theories can be 'undermined' is crazy and shows you don't understand how they work and you are mixing the scientific definition of theory and the philosophical definition, because in science they just take something observable and explain it, so we build on theories rather than dismiss them because they are objectively always useful. There's many examples of how scientists change and build on theories and it happens all the time, which shows your idea of scientists not wanting to be proven wrong and having egos is wrong. One of the most famous examples being Newtons laws of motion in the Principia, which Einstein saw errors in and fixed, and even Einsteins theory of general relativity isn't fully accurate at extremes, like all scientists would agree. But we still use both because they are useful and still work to make predictions. I can give you more examples of when scientific theories are changed because of new data if you would like, as there is many that exist. But when you say "new data" that's the key part and in this guys case he's just crazy and there is no data, "oh look the first interstellar object moving exactly how meteors move through the universe, must be proof of aliens, now buy my book"

Can confirm. I used to be painfully shy and self-conscious in high school. Then in my 20s, I worked mainly as a server. Now I just accept that not everyone is going to like you. No sense in letting it get you down or break your stride. Now when I tell people I used to be really, really shy...they think I'm bullshitting. But also I think people tend to get more confident as they grow and mature with life experience.

When you depend on publications to get funding, that makes it hard to do research with an open mind. The funding in academia is scarce, so only scientists with "money to burn" can explore more open minded research.

Whenever someone suggests a change in thinking or practice for the betterment or advancement of society there's a point while they're making their case where I realize that the process of making said change is unfurling right in front of me. "We need to stop rejecting ideas to more quickly and effectively progress scientific advancements," and the process of doing this is by making the case. It feels as though doing so is as easy done as it is said, and my realization challenges that perspective and always blows my mind. There is a universe in the future where humanity does not allow social or ego based objections to combat progression and it will be moments like this video podcast that will have been the catalyst for doing so. If it is meant to be, it will be and time is the heaviest factor.

The way he uses analogies reminds me of me lol. As a physics student I try to make everything relatable with real life events. But when I began learning Quantum Mechanics thats when everything got shit on. Its gets more abstract as you take higher level courses and kind of detaches from "common" daily life.
I took an astronomy class in undergrad. In the last paragraph on the chapter on the Copernican revolution the textbook's author stated explicitly that there is similar revoutionary information science has uncovered but that that information is being actively supressed for socio-political reasons.

I currently work as a biologist in academia. Once I move I will probably leave the academic setting and try to get into the private sector. Anytime I question anything I get labeled as a “science denier” or a “conspiracy theorist”. The problem is that science is supposed to challenge dogma, but it doesn’t anymore. It only confirms what the researchers bias is because they cherry-pick the data that they want to put forward. When scientific publications endorse any political opinion or candidate (Scientific American) they immediately lose credibility.
I've been saying this for years. The academic community is so politically bias that even if a study found with 100% certainty that something generally accepted was false, you'd be shamed and censored into the ground before they'd recognize it!

As a PhD scientist who has been in academic medicine for over a decade, this is an entirely accurate assessment of academic medicine and science in general. There is a bullying group-think that discourages innovation. One need look no further than the COVID dogma, in which alternative treatments to the profitable vaccines and expensive medications that are being pushed (doesn't the government, media, and conventional medical leadership promotion feel "salesy?) are aggressively dismissed, often with character slander. While scientific tools are powerful, the scientific system is as broken as legacy media.

The culture in the scientific community needs to change, otherwise they'll be no different from the Catholic tribunal that handled Galileo's case.
I often wonder if this isn't just human nature. I squawk about a few things that seem to really piss people off and for reasons I'm not even sure. Like Solar mechanics for example. I recently postulated that the sun is in fact a positive anode in a sea of negatively charged particles as seen through Birkland currents/ electric radio telescopes. This of course is speculative and I even gave a disclaimer as such. Man, you should've heard the people freaking out on me. Why? Are we so entrenched in our scientific dogma that we cant even entertain another model? I even went on to try to explain how the surface is far cooler than the corona and the deepest depths of the sun spots even cooler yet suggesting, to me at least, that there is an external component to its fuel source. Wham!! Yelled at further and accused of disregarding actual science. This of course is not the case. Mainstream academia's tendency to demonize anything that doesn't fit their specific model is a travesty and a hindrance to our collective progress. There is an important intersection between "the ego" (the need for social validation/ acceptance), and the intentional confinement of scientific/ academic discussions because of specific economic interests. Intellectual curiosity is no longer prioritized in academic circles; the emphasis is merely the concretizing of consensus.
When people build a career on a theory it becomes very hard for them to accept any new data that would undermine the theory on which they have built their reputation. Scientists should not fear being proven wrong, that is why you do peer review, to try to find where you were wrong, but human ego gets in the way.
and funding
The idea theories can be 'undermined' is crazy and shows you don't understand how they work and you are mixing the scientific definition of theory and the philosophical definition, because in science they just take something observable and explain it, so we build on theories rather than dismiss them because they are objectively always useful.
There's many examples of how scientists change and build on theories and it happens all the time, which shows your idea of scientists not wanting to be proven wrong and having egos is wrong. One of the most famous examples being Newtons laws of motion in the Principia, which Einstein saw errors in and fixed, and even Einsteins theory of general relativity isn't fully accurate at extremes, like all scientists would agree. But we still use both because they are useful and still work to make predictions. I can give you more examples of when scientific theories are changed because of new data if you would like, as there is many that exist.
But when you say "new data" that's the key part and in this guys case he's just crazy and there is no data, "oh look the first interstellar object moving exactly how meteors move through the universe, must be proof of aliens, now buy my book"

Can confirm. I used to be painfully shy and self-conscious in high school. Then in my 20s, I worked mainly as a server. Now I just accept that not everyone is going to like you. No sense in letting it get you down or break your stride. Now when I tell people I used to be really, really shy...they think I'm bullshitting. But also I think people tend to get more confident as they grow and mature with life experience.

Whenever someone suggests a change in thinking or practice for the betterment or advancement of society there's a point while they're making their case where I realize that the process of making said change is unfurling right in front of me. "We need to stop rejecting ideas to more quickly and effectively progress scientific advancements," and the process of doing this is by making the case. It feels as though doing so is as easy done as it is said, and my realization challenges that perspective and always blows my mind. There is a universe in the future where humanity does not allow social or ego based objections to combat progression and it will be moments like this video podcast that will have been the catalyst for doing so. If it is meant to be, it will be and time is the heaviest factor.

The way he uses analogies reminds me of me lol. As a physics student I try to make everything relatable with real life events. But when I began learning Quantum Mechanics thats when everything got shit on. Its gets more abstract as you take higher level courses and kind of detaches from "common" daily life.

@@CE-vd2px Playback meaning the listening experience of the podcast. On Apple you just hit play and off you go. Close the app and when you come back your right there ready to go where you left off. Never paused for who knows what fkn reason.. Offline listening with auto downloads. Overall the listening experience was WAY better on Apple.. but I’m muttling thru.

For someone who was born in 97’ once I found out that until 1995 people didn’t think there were exoplanets I thought that was insane. Growing up I thought it was just common sense.
Born in 1961. Everybody knew there were exoplanets. It just wasn't scientifically proven. But very few people doubted they existed.
I’ve never watched a full episode. I’m a fan because of the highlights. Won’t likely move to Spotify.
