Norway in that year is the country( with the old system) that got the highest points ever and EVERY participating country gave it points so yeah he would have still won without the Scandinavian 12’s.
this is not explained by politics. but just the neighboring people have a similar folklore and food and art. They understand the language and traditions and songs of each other. this is beyond any doubt sympathy sincere!
Yeah it kinda does. In Flanders (Dutchspeaking part of Belgium), the media publicly root for The Netherlands. However, their artists are quite known here and vice versa.
Yeah, ofcourse culture plays a big role in why people vote on their neighbours/people of the same culture. There are bad 100% generic songs that gets high points from it's neighbours though. That is literally political voting.
"Similar folklore..." What are you talking about? Most of the songs from Eurovision are very similar and have nothing in common with culture and folklor. And a lot of people even don't sing in their own languege (Germany 2018 - English, Sweden 2018 - English, Ukraine 2018 - English, Cyprus 2018 - English, Moldova 2018 - English so on).
Not true. I was just watching the 2003 contest, and Germany gave Poland 12 points for their highly political (though in a peace-mongering way) song. (Just for one example of the country getting 12 points, I'm certain there are many more)
Oh pls, I'm not sure if u can find it on the internet but for instance in the 1st semi final in 2019 every single one of the Serbian jurors put Montenegro 1st. I mean, come on I think we all remember that dreadful performance. On the other hand I get it. They literally participated as Serbia & Montenegro until 2007. With the Nordics I think it's a different story. Yes, they all (except Norway) gave their 12 to Sweden in 2019, but Spain, the Netherlands, Armenia and Czech republic did too. Which is not the case with Serbia and Montenegro for instance. Another fun fact: None of the Nordic juries gave a single point to Iceland in 2019. Anyway it's not the exact same story with the Nordics and Serbia and Montenegro and also Cyprus and Greece, bc the Nordics don't gave that kind a connection with each other. Like they don't share the same language, they have never been 1 country and I also don't think they share the same stars. So if u wanna say something about this, do it right and do ur research. Neighbour votes are not so exepcted. But, in my memory, in ESC '98 "douze points" from North Macedonia (F. Y. R. Macedonia in that year) to Croatia were shocking and unexpected, which had given win to Israel
It was really noticeable when Belgian jury gave no points to France this year and for less hard to understand reasons the Maltese one gave no points to Italy their closest neighbours.
See how they always choose the BEST song out of their block? Yes there is bias but a HUGE factor is song quality. No country is ever guaranteed a point if they don't put in the work, even russia or sweden
I mean, many people think Denmark and the Netherlands are the same country, so that might be why. Plus, the Dutch have a history of migration to Denmark back in the 15th century, so could be why.
In my ideal 2021 voting, I really hate the song from Cyprus. It got 24 points and finished last. All of them are from Greece. And Finland came second last with 40 points, getting some from the Nordics and Estonia. Spain was third last with 48, with half of the points coming from Portugal.
Without actually hearing the songs in question, nor seeing the voting patterns of the other juries for these same songs, it's hard to say with any certainty that these votes were CAUSED by the countries being neighbors/within a block.
I always hate when the French presentator (with the francophone countries too) is the only one to speak French when they give their points...I feel like we are always the only one to not make the effort to speak English ! (I’m French)
La français est une des langues officielles de l'Eurovision, à partir de là je trouve que c'est justifié, ça fait du bien d'entendre du français dans cet univers de langue anglaise 😅
Nordics are the worst for it, in 2008 Denmark was last to vote and gave their 8 to Norway, 10 to Iceland, and 12 to Sweden, all of whom were on the bottom of the board.
It's always hilarious to watch the block voting, especially when the songs get zero points from everyone else. Never a shock to see Greece and Cyprus at it, always makes me laugh. Some countries fortunately do have the imagination to vote for non neighbours.
Hungary doesn’t have that close of a connection to Serbia, also Albania doesn’t have one with Italy. You should have included more Greece- Cyprus instead ;) and the year when Serbia was a favorite to win, I don’t think that counts.
Portugal actually received more points from France than Spain in it's entire eurovision history. Even these days we score higher in french jury rather than Spanish or Italian xD
Fact (just check it if you don't believe me): no 2 other countries have given each other as many points as Greece and Cyprus. Sure, other countries might be guilty of block/neighbour-voting, but Greece-Cyprus win this shameful 'competition' hands down. No other countries even come close! Funny how all Greeks/Cypriots in this thread don't even seem to understand that saying 'but we are the same nation' is not an excuse for voting for each other: it is a SONG contest in which you're supposed to vote for the song you like best - not for the COUNTRY you like best...
More than 250 thousand ethnic Hungarians living in the northern part of Serbia, which is called 'Vojvodina'. And this is a type of "diaspora" voting. Also nowadays, we enjoy a not so bad relationship.
No offense but how is Austria voting for Serbia counted as block voting/neighbour voting? Marija and Serbia is nowhere related to Austria Denmark and France in 2013 is the same case
Italy doesn't receive any political points considering that San Marino gave us 12 points only twice, Albania gives us 12 because Sanremo is very popular and in 2019 they don't give top marks to us...
us azeris always gave 12 points to turkey and so did they, but they don't participate now so we give our points to russia :) and they actually were the only ones who gave 12 points to chingiz
But some countries has deserved the 12 points for example Iceland to Sweden in 2012 or it has a lot of example France to Denmark in 2013 or Spain to Portugal in 2017 it's not all politic but most of it i think is but anyway they have deserved

9:41 how’s that predictable?
Ancient armenian city in France - Martsakh. French people call it as Marseille.
Ireland and Denmark are not block voting
In France we have become the only honest since there is no longer Turkey.
15:39
this cannot happen again...
You forgot 2014 Lithuania gave 12 to Armenia, lots of Latvia to Lithuania and Estonia to Finland and shit like that
Without actually hearing the songs in question, nor seeing the voting patterns of the other juries for these same songs, it's hard to say with any certainty that these votes were CAUSED by the countries being neighbors/within a block.
Yes, some of the times here they voted for the favorite (like Norway 2008).
Best neighbors Germany and Turkey
6.38 is not very much politics. It's not that surprising that someone gave 12 pts to Loreen
ah yes germany and turkey, neighbours.
Austria and Serbia aren't neighboring countries, and neither are Germany and Turkey
Did you hear for the word called "Diaspora"?
I always hate when the French presentator (with the francophone countries too) is the only one to speak French when they give their points...I feel like we are always the only one to not make the effort to speak English ! (I’m French)
i think its better for countries to speak in their language
La français est une des langues officielles de l'Eurovision, à partir de là je trouve que c'est justifié, ça fait du bien d'entendre du français dans cet univers de langue anglaise 😅
Nordics are the worst for it, in 2008 Denmark was last to vote and gave their 8 to Norway, 10 to Iceland, and 12 to Sweden, all of whom were on the bottom of the board.
0:57? Why?
It's always hilarious to watch the block voting, especially when the songs get zero points from everyone else. Never a shock to see Greece and Cyprus at it, always makes me laugh. Some countries fortunately do have the imagination to vote for non neighbours.
Sir Terry Wogan always got so annoyed 😢
Hungary doesn’t have that close of a connection to Serbia, also Albania doesn’t have one with Italy. You should have included more Greece- Cyprus instead ;) and the year when Serbia was a favorite to win, I don’t think that counts.
thought it was BLOC voting because of the eastern bloc but please tell me if I'm wrong
You missed Slovenia-Croatia in 1998 and Bosnia & Herzegovina-Croatia in so many years.
Remember that Greece got their only points from Cyprus that year.
Lithuania does not vote for Russia in buttbuddy ways, we have a much, much smaller Russian population, Latvia and Estonia have over 30%.
Bri'ish "people" shouldn't complain about Cyprus-Greece voting each other. We would've been a single nation now if it wasn't for them
Very true haha
Tyvm but it isn’t “British people” only doing that it’s loads of countries
there is one country that doesn't do this yes Australia i love you because of that ;)
Yes that is very true
@@pasqualinoabbadini5261 only one
Portugal actually received more points from France than Spain in it's entire eurovision history. Even these days we score higher in french jury rather than Spanish or Italian xD
Not enough Cyprus-Greece or Romania-Moldova.
ppl from outside Europe should be voting too to give some neutral points
Yes, Austria and Serbia are the *BEST* neighbors xD
Many serbian ppl live in austria
Fact (just check it if you don't believe me): no 2 other countries have given each other as many points as Greece and Cyprus. Sure, other countries might be guilty of block/neighbour-voting, but Greece-Cyprus win this shameful 'competition' hands down. No other countries even come close! Funny how all Greeks/Cypriots in this thread don't even seem to understand that saying 'but we are the same nation' is not an excuse for voting for each other: it is a SONG contest in which you're supposed to vote for the song you like best - not for the COUNTRY you like best...
Sweden giving 12 points to Norway in 2009 probably wasn't based on the brotherhood, since most of Europe gave their twelve points to Norway as well.
I hate when people in the audience say , booooooooo’
Well voting for your neighbour regardless if the song is good or bad is kind of cheating in a way so I understand people that react that way.
@@cant_handle_deeznuts How is it cheating when everyone does it?
uh, how are Serbia and Hungary bloc voting for eachother??
More than 250 thousand ethnic Hungarians living in the northern part of Serbia, which is called 'Vojvodina'.
And this is a type of "diaspora" voting. Also nowadays, we enjoy a not so bad relationship.
I don't understand how Hungary got here tbh.
Except for Poland noone really likes us in a way that they would bloc-vote, so...
No offense but how is Austria voting for Serbia counted as block voting/neighbour voting? Marija and Serbia is nowhere related to Austria
Denmark and France in 2013 is the same case
Lot of Serbs live in Austria, that's why.
Austria voting for Serbia, in the year when Serbia won, is meant to be political somehow??
Not sure what the connection between France and Armenia is
Very good relations and the large Armenian diaspora in France.
Italy doesn't receive any political points considering that San Marino gave us 12 points only twice, Albania gives us 12 because Sanremo is very popular and in 2019 they don't give top marks to us...
I often see people like “Not even _Ireland_ gave us any points!” Like they completely forgot 1916 existed.
Where is Portugal - Brazil?
Lithuania voting for Georgia isn't even remotely political. That's ridiculous.
Uknis neighbour with turkey?
Immigrants
Denmark-Ireland, Serbia-Hungary
I mean dafuq?
The actual Hungarian performer that got 12 points from Serbia was born in Northern SRB. Her entire hometown voted for her. :)
But that is an exceptional case, usually they don't vote for each other.
Serbian televoters gave Hungary 12 points again. :)
Probably the ethnic Hungarians and Serbian rockers joined forced and voted. :)
BaksBaksBaks Hungarian song was awesome.
BaksBaksBaks yea i think so thx for them :)
us azeris always gave 12 points to turkey and so did they, but they don't participate now so we give our points to russia :) and they actually were the only ones who gave 12 points to chingiz
love u guys from İstanbul :)
You should watch the 1966 voting and wait for the Scandinavian countries to vote lmfao
At least we can always rely on at least 1 of Ireland, Malta or Australia
I feel like Denmark is a little bit outsider since they sometimes got 0 point from the other Nordic countries😂😂
You forgot about the kings of neighbourly voting - Greece & Cyprus
no one neighbor romance language country voted for Italy
only slavic countries voted for Italy
Austria-Serbia why ??
So many serbians live in austria
Scandinavian block killed ESC😢 Sweden as their leader, sure!
11:10?
Eski günler
Yugoslav block
Azerbaycan Türkiye ❤❤
Así no vota a España ni su madre
Ps si :v
But some countries has deserved the 12 points for example Iceland to Sweden in 2012 or it has a lot of example France to Denmark in 2013 or Spain to Portugal in 2017 it's not all politic but most of it i think is but anyway they have deserved
