Millennium Dawn aka Modern Day Mod for Hearts of Iron 4 has to be one o the best mods for HOI4 and Tommy is completely addicted.
After the Germany game, Tommy wanted to play one of his favorite nations in all of HOI4, it's time to return to Japan.
Modern Day Japan in 2022 has a lot of paths to take.
After WW2, Japan is allied with the USA and NATO and that is one path.
Another path is a return to the Emperor and to the Empire of Japan.
Naturally there's other paths, but we know which one Tommy will take.
China needs to be stopped, Taiwan needs to be saved and everyone inside of China needs to be freed.
It's time to fight and attack China in 2022!
It's time to unite Korea and curb Kim Jong Un's dad and North Korea!
It's time to have an epic game in the Modern Day Mod!

So glad to see Tommy playing millennium dawn bc it was shit on for the longest time and now someone like him supporting it will do wonders.

IMO if they can just optimize it a bit more so that 1 year doesn't take around an hour to simulate, the mod would be an A+ tier mod. They've come a long way since the merger first happened, which was a total shitshow at first.

@@mwallrabenstein5215 HOI4 is already badly optimized for multicore performance, add this mod on top and it's doomed. If they made this mod run a bit smoother there would be no reason to play vanilla over this mod

My only issue with this mod is that there is no way to disable all factions which there needs to be because 10 years into the game it just turns into random mega factions invading everyone

Korean here and about the picture of the Korean royal family at the beginning, They are indeed the royal family but not even the first in line to the throne. He only shows up on the top when searched the royal family of korea because he went full crazy that he should be brought back to power in Korea

@@TommyKay could you perhaps do it like in most tv shows where theres an establishing shot before each fight to show the stakes and make the situation clear. Basically like how in any professional fight the announcer covers stats of each side, to translate in hoi4 terms before each major war or as significant events and decisions relating to the gameplay are made if templates, country stats doctrine ect can be shown just about every time will be nice

I don’t know why, but playing MD is so fun. Like for some reason if my country has high corruption and a stable economy, I find that even more fun. Building up your country is so much more fun is this game, and also this game is a little more humane to me because when I play it, i think of the people living in the country I’m playing as. I don’t know man, I absolutely adore grand strategy games that go into extreme detail

I actually trade currencies and bonds for a living. The explanation about how Japan's debt is sustained is a bit backwards. Monetary deflation would actually make the problem worse, because an increase in the value of the currency that debt is denominated in, obviously makes that debt more expensive to service in real terms. Also, the Yen peaked against the USD in 2011, and declined another 6% this month. So I don't know where they are getting the idea that Japan is experiencing monetary deflation from, unless they confused it with deflation in terms of prices which can be explained primarily by a decrease in consumption as the Japanese have low confidence in the future under such high levels of debt, as well as shrinkage of consumer goods, and questionable methods of measurement. The real reason they have been able to sustain it for so long is because the Japanese government does not have anyone else to compete with for creditors other than the United States, and there is a limited amount of US treasuries for the Japanese people to buy as many people around the world also want to buy US treasuries. Japan will be fine as long as interest rates remain low in Europe, because at that point the Japanese central bank would be competing with European governments for creditors as well.
The US Federal Reserve is far more independent than other governments central banks (thank God), and they are beginning to raise interest rates which will in turn likely force the ECB to raise interest rates, as governments are in competition for creditors. Also some people say well this is the problem of tax evasion or just too low taxes, but the reality is you could start liquidating the wealth of the richest people and it would hardly help at this point. It is actually a spending problem, as much as people do not want to accept that. Here in Canada everyone knows we are facing austerity, it doesn't really matter which side of the political spectrum you're on. Only very young people with radical left wing views still believe that taxing people alone can help, and it is questionable whether any tax increases at all would do anything but exacerbate the issue by shrinking the tax base to the point of actually reducing revenue. We know our government is behaving dishonestly in regards to what they say to critics of their fiscal behavior. It is honestly a weird time to live in, because it wasn't more than 20 years ago that such fiscal policy would have been considered something that only economically illiterate dictators would pursue in third world countries. It is has gotten to the point where an extreme solution might be necessary, like a debt to equity swap which was done in former Soviet member states in the 1990s. What concerns me is that what is required to bring the world back from the brink of a total economic collapse, is a set of policies that would be the economic equivalent to open heart surgery. You hear people say "we should just let the government go bankrupt", but the reality is the whole global economy is founded upon sovereign bonds at this point, so government default would result in total global economic collapse. At least in Canada for myself, I would prefer a debt-to-equity swap in combination with a new Canadian constitution that outlaws government debt and replaces direct taxation with a mandate that allows our central bank to print a certain % of GDP in new money for the purpose of funding the Federal government. This would eliminate a huge amount of bureaucratic overhead that comes with taxation, not to mention the invasion of privacy.

@@TommyKay No it was purely economics, although that is inherently political so I made one statement about the nature of the political discussion around sovereign debt. But I didn't say anything inflammatory, I just find it fascinating that someone is creating a modern day mod because right now there is the perfect set of circumstances to spark major international conflict. Even before Russia's invasion, the problem is more fundamental and it has to do with the way sovereign debt hurts citizens and then makes people go a bit crazy and become antagonistic towards other countries, and even drives conflict between people with different viewpoints in the same country.

China in 2000 is a completely different country comparing to it right now, like literally. It's not like 'oh we have improved our economy and people can by more things'. They are different in terms of econmy, technology, military, politic structure and even culture, basically every aspect. What works for china in the year of 2000, no matter if it's foreign intervention, military invation or self-reformation, won't work for china now. I really think people need to know this, it will help you to understand china better than most of "china watchers".

got a few campaigns in this mod, thats really crazy, maybe i`ll create my own submod for this. but I`ve got some issues:
1) prodused a lot of SAMs (like 2000 units or so), deployed them in regions and they shot like 1 enemy plane or smth...maybe i`ve done smth wrong? same with ABMs...rocket part must be updated to be more understandable
2) also with satellites the bottom 2 bonuses options unavailable for some reason (tested even with console and launched about 1000 sats of each type)
3) CAS is even stronger in this mod - i`ve seen up to 95% stat bonus from GS. when China with Russia invaded me they deployed around 1k cas in 1 region and 2 my divs got wrecked (to 1% hp), and the rest of my divs were unable to hold their advance, 48 divs which i`ve trained to wreck the enemy lines become ashes...guess thats repredents the real POWER of modern aviation
p.s.: guess who become a ruler of Saudi Arabia when it turns radical isl, even in 2017 scenario... :)
