    I had an RG75 combo that I used for almost a decade. Wish I still had it. I loved it so much that I stopped using my Mesa and my Marshall for years. The amp was solid as a rock. It always sounded great, never had a single issue with it, it was built like a tank. I played all over L.A. in the metal scene of the 80s and 90s and then some with it.

    I love my RG100ES, I never use the dirty channel, it's too 80's, but the clean tone with a tiny bit of distortion mixed in to give it some breakup = beautiful tone. Sounds WAY better in person, I dunno why he wouldn't close mic the cab with an RE20 or something to make this amp sound like it truly should but yeah, the audio here is crap.

  • @Breaker197

    I love listening to people hating on Randall because a) it's clear how clueless they are, and b) you're talking about a piece of hardware that's 30+ years old. Obviously, Dime threw stuff into his rig to tweak the sound to make it his. He worked at his sound, and it shows. He experimented and thought outside the box to make it work. Don't just take stuff at face value. I will also add that Randall as a company has rolled with the times. Their newer amps effing own. I'm not even talking about the tube nonsense they're messing with these days. I run straight into an RH200SC and it sounds REAL damn close to Dime's sound. Just taking time to play with the knobs and feel out the amp is so crucial but so overlooked. I haven't even gotten my Bill Lawrence pickup into my new guitar yet, and it still sounds awesome. TL;DR Don't just judge an amp based on a crappy quality youtube video, take some time to play around with it before writing it off.

      Shotgun Zombie I owned one and must agree 100% with you. That amp kicked ass every MFing time it was turned on. Randall nailed it on solid state with it. No tube warm up or other tube issues. I had a Randall 4x12 slant and a Marshall 4x12 straight cabinets under it and it was great. Not all solid state amps were good but this Randall was killer good.

  • @JohnathanRidgeway
    @JohnathanRidgeway 15 лет назад

    Yeah im mean dime just used this as a base for his tone. He said himself that he got about 70%-80% of his gain from the two eq's the graphic in front anf parametric in back.

  • @tracycrush
    @tracycrush 15 лет назад

    i used the RG 100 HT in the studio.
    really cool amp. I really liked all the different tones between the clean, crunch, and the pull switch that gave it the "push over the top" distortion. I really enjoyed it.
    Now i play the MARSHALL (TSL100). love it.
    never heard a Marshall with so much "gain".

  • @KyleBurnsMusic

    nice! yeah they are great amps!. I ran my guitar just straight into it, Only thing in the way Was a Noise Gate and my wah, but i ended up taking the wah out cause i never used it unless we did a slayer cover or something, It's all about Eq, a lot of guys don't really pay attention to it but it's key, but yeah i didn't even need the gain all the way up, i kept it at 6 or 7 as i recall. The RG100 i had though i used a boss metal zone, cause it just didn't have the gain i needed

    Love Dime, got to see him live many times. But I never thought he had good tone on the early stuff. I have tried this amp a few times with different speakers, and it really doesn't sound good. In this vid it sounds like a muddy mess, but I enjoyed the talking about the amp's history and appreciate the video and amp.

      did you use a 10 band e.q,a furman parametric eq along with the other things dime used to tweak and craft his tone.if you didn't,you wont get anywhere near the good tone.

    I played the same amp with a full stack for years and it was the King. I played in D.A.M.M. (Drunks Against Madd Mothers) with my Les Paul. Wish I never sold it. I want another one ! The solid state does not depend on tubes and sounds killer every MF time. Many lack the sound quality but this is not those.

    @itsGoboboy well i hope it works out for you but what i did is probably gonna be a one time thing with that head, if it works well then i will tell you it is one of the few that dont have alot of problems or it could be like mine and be perfect, the only exterior i kept on mine was the metal cuz i think goes with the tolex

    This AMP is way better than this review. It sounds great every MF time being solid state. I used it for years even in D.A.M.M. Drunks Against Madd Mothers my last 2 years of HS in the late 80's. Had a full stack under it with a 1/2 Randall slant and a 1/2 Marshal straight cabinet
    loved it with my Gibson The Paul

    I own one of these. I hooked up a pair of twleves once, and deemed there was something wrong with it. Sort of a digital "click" if you will, the sound that you get when you make a digital recording that peaks over 0db. I figured it must be bad capacitors or something. Then I listen to you play this, and I hear that same sound, and I wonder, hmm... is that just how the amp sounds? Or maybe this recording is bad. I'm not sure. I guess I will pull it apart and inspect caps.

    I have this amp and it does sound awesome but this is pointless because you hear the amp at just the bass. In short yes it sounds like a old Marshall kind but that's with half gain or less so when ya max the gain and pull out the treble it becomes a Randall then you can add a pedal To but it would have feedback

  • @glt712
    @glt712 10 лет назад

    I've been playing through a Randall RG100SC combo for years. It's a fine amp. The recording on this videao is...not very ghood. Or the fellow in the video purposely left the tone as muddy.
    Mine sounds far stronger than what was demo'd here. I've never had even the slightest hint of technical troubles with my amp, either.
    That stated, if I happened to be of the ways and means to afford an amp head, I'd buy the Randall Thrasher, without question.

  • @hankatstricklandpropane
    @hankatstricklandpropane 6 лет назад

    It's just bad mic placement. The sole reason for the loose, muddy sludge is because the mic isn't picking up any high-end treble from the cabinet.

    yeah me too, Plus they're just more practical imo. Tube amps sound cool and stuff, but fragile. You can get just as good of a sound on a SS. the new RG line from Randall SLAYS! Plus even look at the RX120 i used that in my last two bands. Great head. For blues i use the Fender 212R. great tone. People who complain about Solid states are narrow minded Gearheads. All talk no skills. True tone comes from the player. If he eq'd and mic'd it better i'm sure it'd sound great. Could be the cab too. tho

    It's hard to believe that Dimebag and George Lynch used this amp from watching this video. The reason I say this is because that distortion tone was disgusting. There was no mean, just mud. I usually like the reviews that McGee does, but this one would have totally turned me off of Randall if I hadn't already known about them. Too bad, cause this video does this beautiful amp absolutely no justice.

    Terrible example haha. I played this amp for 2 years in my last band. It is a very thin sounding amp. Dimebag may have used it you guys, but he had more money put into pedals then 2 of his guitars. I had to run 2 EQ's, an Overdrive, Compression ect. it's a good amp. but in the long run. Dime switched cause he didn't want to rely on pedals so much.
