I had a house in Phoenix that I just sold. It was a large house with a family of 7 that I had for a while. I could've gotten more money when I sold the property by evicting the family and selling to a homeowner, but that did not feel right. The thought of uprooting my tenants life for the sake of a few extra dollars was just wrong. So I ended up selling to an investor and used the tenants stable rental history and duration as a selling point. Sure I got less. But the tenants got to stay in the buyer was pleased to have instant rental income. I wish investors weren't so heartless. When a house goes vacant, definitely Jack the rent up. But with the tenant in their, I think it's best to keep the rental increases reasonable. And by reasonable I mean, "how would you feel if the tenant where your grandmother?"
Nice you considered them but that's not going to stop the new owner. But I agree w you money isn't always everything. Bcse they may try to get more $$$ and risk losing a good tenant only to get one that doesn't pay.
The Problem: How long before the greed \ need bug bites your buyer and he \ she \ whatever evicts the long standing tenant family. It was YOUR kind heart that brought the rental family long term stability. If buyers can win a low ball house price by letting a poor rental family stay for a while it's worth it. Give the rental family another year then Evict Them saying it's Time to hit the bricks. The poor are only helped by people of good will and charity. Good people aren't motivated solely by greed. So perhaps you're right, burial plots might be subject for a rent increase!
$1,100 rent increase = tenant is probably doing something awful & landlord wants out of it, lets finish the story. Because you can only raise rent after a lease is completed and a new one is offered, not in the middle of one. And nobody is going to stay for $1,100 more a month, they'll just go somewhere better. And it must be REALLY bad..... because no landlord in the country is going to give up a disabled veteran with a guaranteed government paycheck, if they're a good paying renter. This is American Greed at its finest. Also, this home owner should not be able to list such an expensive property on a based on income supplemental program.
Call it greed if it makes you feel better but I don't think it's a secret that America has a basically capitalistic system. IMO it has worked pretty well. I'm a Vet too and imo the US has a responsibility to disabled vets...not landlords. It seems Americans don't want to pay their debt to vets but want to push it onto landlords. OK, let's take a look at where this is heading...once landlords start seeing they're going to be called greedy and hated for asking for market rents and end up on the news because the renter is a Vet, disabled, single mom, some race, trans, gay, etc... how long before landlords will be trained to not want to rent to anyone in any of these groups? That's just going to make life tougher for people in these groups imo. And it's a big reason why things are already tougher for people in these groups. Landlords are trying to make a living and social warriors scare the hell out of them.

The pipes corroded, split apart and water spread out under the whole house and when I walked on the wooden floor puddles of water came up and what happens after puddles of water? MOLD!!! She denied there was mold and after I showed her she said "Oh everybody has that"! and I was getting sick from it and my doctor said I have all the symptoms of mold illness the Landlady (or slumlady!) says it's all in my head!! I have been sick for 6 months coughing and wheezing mostly at night, and lost my voice on and off about 12 times even now it being hard to talk!! I am withholding rent until she fixes these things, she filed and eviction against me, not mentioning to the court about her not fixing things that caused my health to suffer, so I answered it with my evidence and her not being honest with the court, and today got an email from the circuit court of Palm Beach DISMISSING her case!!! Sometimes it is NOT the improvement or structure that costs the big bucks. Often times it is the LAND under the structure that harbors most of the cost in a home. I had a one bedroom 625 square foot rancher on a tiny lot. The rancher house \ structure was worth a pittance. The land it sat on that I also owned was worth many times the price of the pitiful little structure. If you build a tiny house in Silicon Valley and the land is worth 1.2 million the tiny house despite its small footprint will still sell for 2.1 million in the open market. If you build the exact same tiny house near a ghetto crack den it won't be worth tuppence.
It really gets me that immediately she says it's greed. It's not. The landlord is being affected by the inflation just as bad, and it's her right to get a fair market value for her rental. The landlord isn't creating this disparity. The government will have to review their programs and services a little closer and see where they need to step in. Otherwise, small landlords will go under & decide to simply pull their rentals, sell or simply raise the rent and look for those who can afford the increase.
There are lots of places in Florida, Hawaii and California, I'd like to live but don't because I can't afford it. There are cheaper places in the country to live. We have to differentiate between a want and a need. She may WANT to live in Florida. She does not NEED to.
These property owners have rental properties they can't afford to own. They put little money down and are looking for tenants to cover their expenses plus a generous profit. You don't pull a price from the sky when you are selling a home so why do these landlords think they can pull a rent price out of the sky?
Respectfully stated but WRONG! In Baltimore City you can rent a nice clean place for just 2,000 per month often less than that down market. A 2 bedroom one bath in Columbia Maryland is maybe 2,200 a month and lots of places out in Columbia Maryland take vouchers. The neighborhoods aren't too bad either. Pretty good schools. Howard County is among the better off counties which makes even the bad schools better than most. Most of Howard Counties rich folk send their kids to private schools anyway.

To huge investment trusts a single home is just another grain of sand on an infinite beach of properties. Compassion what's that?
@No Comment My granny lives in a small flat 6 feet under the ground. Her rent will never increase!
@No Comment You mean subject the dead to the likes of inflation and taxation? Don't be ridiculous!
Wait a minute, on 2nd thought, if we keep going with these shenanigans via the Fed and Washington DC, we may have to turn to the afterlife for a bailout. So perhaps you're right, burial plots might be subject for a rent increase!
Hopefully, her daughter gets to finish her senior year at the same high school.
Ma'am thank you for your service.
That's a freaking golden goose. In fact if this one-sided story is actually true, there was probably a mob of landlords fighting over her offering apartments lol
That's not true it's been all over the news. A LOT of people rent jumped up like hers or doubled
@@andrellsmith9083 nobody who leases doubles the rent on good paying tenant.
Do you have any idea how much work it is to clean up and renovate an apartment and then interview and background check and find a replacement tenant? Who actually has a good payment record, reliable income and passable criminal record, addictions or other glaring red flags? Try a month working for nothing and then another month looking, that's about what I average. Hell no. This story is a pipe dream.
Paying reliable hassle free renters are gold, they are nearly impossible to find. I'd be afraid to raise it on one $10/month lol
There's something missing in the story as usual

Its a business. Vacancies are costly and evictions are incredibly time consuming and costly.
A good paying renter is left alone, if not applauded.
Nobody doubles the rent on a tenant and expects them to stay and pay, because you already know they won't if you just think about it for more than 3 seconds. Would you stay if your rent was doubled?
Its an act of desperation to get them out.

@@MrWaterbugdesign It's not capitalist Nimby laws, Zoning laws, QE, bail, outs have constantly favored people with property we have always had socialism for the wealthy it's time to start helping builders and renters instead of investors.

She refused to call a plumber and after 6 months she finally did only to find out when she was warned to replace the 30 year old pipes under the house when I moved in and had toilet trouble 2 days into me moving in!! Now she wants me out because I told her (and sent a certified letter!) I am withholding rent until she fixes these things, she filed and eviction against me, not mentioning to the court about her not fixing things that caused my health to suffer, so I answered it with my evidence and her not being honest with the court, and today got an email from the circuit court of Palm Beach DISMISSING her case!!! Finally some justice!! I'm not done because I am filing a small claims case against her which the limit is $8000 unless I can get a lawyer to help and file a class action suit against her because of the cost of my health problems!!!

She should try County Veterans agency.Come to Northeast Ohio Stark county where it's cheap and safe to live next door to the Amish.
She is invested in having her kid stay in the current school till graduation. Crazy as it sounds I understand. Human teens don't do well if uprooted and transferred to new schools. A human child needs a sense of housing, food and basic needs security to thrive. Biological human females are even more susceptible to negative adult outcomes because their social networks tend to be both deeper yet more fragile than those of typical males of the species. After her offspring safely enters college or workforce soldier mom might be more inclined to move long distances to achieve a stable cheap home as most housing choice vouchers are portable.
Then you SHOULD be aware of the fact that these programs routinely discriminate against female veterans....

$3200 a month is like living in hawaii
This is how revolutions start
This is why tiny living and small floor plan home projects should be a thing. They're cost effective and energy efficient.
That's how I feel .........no one cares! What my family & I went through the past 2+ years is cringe worthy.
Me too
There are lots of places in Florida, Hawaii and California, I'd like to live but don't because I can't afford it. There are cheaper places in the country to live. We have to differentiate between a want and a need. She may WANT to live in Florida. She does not NEED to.
