I was stationed on a ship at Alameda (Wichita). It's a shame that they closed that base, this and a few others should have never closed!

I wonder what the base primary role was? Ships and Aircraft, Training, Repair and rework, Etc. I would like to find some videos of Naval Base Alameda when it was in its hay day.

Well, I got some information for you. One of my watchers told me I need to do more research. And he schooled me on what the base was. So this is all the information he gave me. The US Navy began building the 1734 acre base on Alameda island in the late 1930s. For more than 50 years, it was a repair and maintenance facility for the Navy aircraft, including carrier based planes and helicopters. Eventually, the base was closed in 1997 due to budgetary constraints. But over 10 years would lapse before that Land was returned to the city of Alameda. Since then, the city has been researching how best to develop the area. Portions of which remain contaminated by a variety of hazardous materials. The base was declared a super fun cleanup site in 1999. And that’s all the information he gave me. Hope that was enough. But it would be nice to get some old footage of it too. Thank you again for watching and thank you again for your nice comments. Stay strong and healthy. Bye-bye.

@@JoyCool1 Very interesting. I was a US Coast Guard Aviator. I went to Aviation Electronics school in Elizabeth City, NC. That base was a Training base as well as an Aircraft repair and maintenance facility. Although on a smaller scale it had some similarities. I guess Navy Alameda reminded me of my past. Thanks again . Really enjoy the videos.

Wow, wow! Thank you for your service again. If I didn’t already tell you that. And I might repeat myself again by saying I do not think the kids nowadays could do what you guys did back in the day! Even the construction workers back in the day or something else! The pipefitters that used to put in the fire sprinklers back in the day off of scaffolding oh my goodness? I couldn’t do that! Yes, I should do a little research before I make these videos, but like I said in the past, I’m a lazy RUclipsr. But I can’t thank you enough for watching these silly videos! And I always appreciate all your comments. You are the why this Channel is growing! That didn’t come out right. It is people like you that this channel is growing! That didn’t even count sound right? Anyway, stay strong and healthy. Bye-bye.

No, it’s not really near my house, but it is close. I don’t know if I should do a story on this or not? It is just so sad to see a murder suicide. But it is a story that should be told but how with respect? But yes, this should make the national news? Thank you again for watching and thank you for your nice comments. I’ll think about doing a video on this or not? Stay strong and healthy. Bye-bye.
