Thanks Shannon. Lots of birds singing in the background. Nice to hear. 😊
Great install how to. It covers basically all the issues that you would face doing the install. Great job!
Excellent! Thank you Shannon, you even provided real world conditions to installation conditions one might run into.
Thorough, clear instructions. With the exception of enlarging an already existing hole, this should be an easy install for anyone looking to update their old deadbolt.
That looks GREAT!
I ESPECIALLY like the drill cup in a cup way to expand the hole size!
Gotta keep this video.
Good one Shannon!
Thanks Shannon. ,,, like allways you are fantastic with instruction,,,,you are the best.......i save at lot time and cash
2:14 SEE!!!!!!! This is why I've been watching you for a decade or better!! I would have cut a plug, attached it to 2x, clamped it to the door, and cut the hole that way, about an hour later. These are the techniques I watch you for! Sorry to gush but you're young enough to be my son and I keep learning from you.
I appreciate you watching , You comment on pretty much every video Maxid1 , I notice these things. Young enough to be your son? Looking at your profile picture I dont think so, I'm more than half way to 100! LOL
I've never seen the hole saw trick before. Nice! The whole process was very helpful. Thanks!
You’re so professional I love your videos
Am about to change out the front door for a newer, thicker warmer one. Wanting to put a card swipey lock thing in. Now im getting a good idea on how to have a go... your site so cool. Super understandable... love your patience. Cheers from New Zealand. 😊
Big fan of yours!
I never new the small 1-1/2 dia hole could be made bigger that way. That was cool.
I've done so many projects around my house because of your generosity, (one piece shower install, garage door with springs, the list goes on.
Thank you again.
That holesaw trick is pure gold! And so simple
I installed the weiser locks,I like them bc they’re a little thinner so they fit nicely between insert frame and edge of door no trimming
Thank you for showing how to install these locks & the trick to drill a larger hole.
I have these exact same locks on two doors. Had them for years. Work great and the batteries last for years
Thank you for the information
Great and clean job!
thank you so much for sharing
Great video as always. Been viewing you for years and learned a good bit of information. Thank you
thankyou Shannon I like the tip on the saw hole didn't know it.
Thankyou for your time sir !
Looks like a hell of a view there!
Its awesome! Keep tuned for more about this location!
Nice video Shannon. I enjoyed it. Thank you!
Great, I have been wanting to get this type of lock for a long time, misplace my keys a lot.
Perhaps check to see if the hole alignment offset is where your new lock needs it to be before cutting a new hole aligned wrong.
Check the template.
Pretty much there are two standards for back set 2-3/4 and 2-3/8 and most manufactures have latches that adjust to either backset.
Very well done sir. Have been going to do this to my front door but having a hard time choosing a good brand. Doesn’t have to be the most expensive, I’m more of a middle in the road kind of guy. Any suggestions or are they all pretty basic,,,,,thanks
They are all similar as far as install.
Which I took your advice when I did that last. I also ended up having to call a locksmith since my battery died!!!
These give you a lot of warning when the battery is low. I have 5 and have never had a battery go actually dead. If yours is killing batteries quickly I would call the company, there is likely a problem with it. Ours last close to two years even through our cold winters.
@@HouseImprovementsthanks. I was just lazy and ignored it. Hahaha
Whenever I've played with the display models that they have set up in the stores, the schlage electronic locks all seem to work fine, while almost all the other brands are non functional.
thanks, can you pls share the links for hole saw and pilot bit you used?
I will add those in the video description. The hole saw size could be different for your lock but normally they are 2-1/8"
⚡🔐 👍
is the weather that nice up there in Sask? Or is this a video that was in your pocket from last year? I've been tempted to get one of those Schlage keypad openers, but I think they have a little more refinement to do maybe? They'll get better, I think. Great guide on enlarging that hole-I had no idea you could use one small hole saw to guide the big one using the right kind of arbor. That's wild.
This was shot last summer . I've got many of these type of Schlage's for a few years now and they have worked very well.
@@HouseImprovementsWhat about that 9V, do you gotta change it often? That'd be a real pain.
No Aaron actually even in our winters I maybe change the battery every 14 - 16 months or so. I buy good quality ones . What I like about this type is the battery just activates an actuator and it does not have to mechanically move the bolt latch like some others so it does not use much power each time. It activates the lighted buttons as well obviously.
👍👍
👍👍👍
what happens if the battery dies? do those still come with a key to unlock it?
Yes there is a key and the lock warns you for a long time when it's getting low. I have 5 of these and have never had one die completely . The battery usually lasts a couple years even through our cold winters.
This particular lock has better reviews for reliability and security than many other electric locks. The instructions actually leave out a lot of more detailed instructions, so I have bookmarked the page on the internet for the full manual. It gives info like setting up a holiday feature for a long time away and resetting the lock if it major malfunctions. And the big thing there is NEVER loose the code sticker on the instructions or in the lock cover, because even if you change the programming code, you'll need the original for a factory reset.
14:34 That new bolt looks wider and taller than the old one.
Could be slightly.
I had the same one and it only lasted about 2 years before it started failing. When I changed the batteries it seemed to help initially but soon the lock would just spin and not catch the deadbolt. Took it apart and applied lube but no luck. I will probably just go back to a keyed entry.
Interesting I have not found that issue and I have a few of these locks.
