This movie has aged excellently because it’s 11 years old and still looks like it came out today.
Yeah, really few VFX heavy movies from more than 10 years ago (5 even sometimes) still look stunning today. Props to TLOTR Trilogy, Cameron's Avatar and the ONLY THREE (4 and 5 don't exist) Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

To this day, I do not understand how this film wasn't Oscar-nominated for visual effects, cinematography, and soundtrack. Baffled... absolutely baffling.
Unfortunately, the movie could not get nominated for visual effects because cgi was considered "cheating".

@@infinityrealitygaming4718 that’s TRON (1982) yourself thinking of. Not Tron: Legacy (2010). In 1982, CGI was a new technique. Analog methods like puppetry, miniatures, etc. were still very much the norm. By 2010, CGI had been well past established as the primary form of visual development in media. In other words, wrong movie, dude.

Still pisses me off that the soundtrack wasn't nominated but they use it from time to time to present some of the sections at the Oscars.
There is more depth to this movie than people will ever realise. It's the most meaningful movie I have ever watched. Why tron turned out to be a good program while clu bad because Flynn was arrogant and a perfectionist when he created him but Alan as we can see is wiser. And so many points that make this movie the best one there is.
You could simply upload the entire movie and it would still be justified. That's how amazing the cinematography is.

IMHO Tron Legacy is most aesthetically stunning sci-fi movie to date. Consistent, ambitious, quaint vision accompanied with immaculate Daft Punk soundtrack! Only Blade Runners could rival for the primacy with this masterpiece.

I was lucky enough to have been able to see this gorgeous film in IMAX 3D when it came out, and it still remains one of the greatest movie experiences I've ever had.

The director has a background in architecture. And you should know, architects know well about composition. Be it visual or music. Because they know the balance of what is good or not.

Still a favorite of mine
I remember being somewhat confused seeing this movie when it first came out, mostly because the trailers had sold me on light cycles and disc battles so when those were over, teenage me was bored. I watched it again a few months ago and was absolutely ASTOUNDED by how much more I liked it. It has got to be one of the most visually stunning movies I’ve ever seen. The shot composition once they’re in the Grid is perfection. The effects are amazing. And don’t EVEN get me started on the soundtrack. This movie is brilliant.
Pretty good looking movie, daft punk killing it with the soundtrack. Whenever Jeff delivers a speech, I get reminded of "Tony Stark built this in a cave".

I remember being obsessed with Bladerunner 2049 and Tron Legacy. Two movies that apparently weren't that successful. It's a damn shame..
The great thing about unsuccessful movies that are overlooked like that is that Hollywood won't bother trying to milk the franchise dry. If Tron Legacy was doing Avengers type numbers in its original run, we would have had 3 sequels and a couple reboots by now.
Ironically, however, I should note that adjusted for inflation Tron Legacy made about as much in 2010 as Antman Quantomania made in 2023, with similar budgets. Disney perceived Tron as a failure by the standards of the time because it barely broke even, but Antman barely breaking even in 2023 is still considered a success because it's still part of the Marvel brand.

Another one I can think of is Megamind, a wonderful movie that wasn't ruined by any sequels because the first one was perfect as is.

If there was ever a time to push the boundaries of digital special effects in media, making a Tron movie should be at least one of the movies to do it.

Any shot of Olivia Wilde is amazing.
How this film didn’t perform well is a mystery to me. Score, plot, action, cinematography. One of my favourites. My personal favourite shot is where, in the dogfight near the end, Rinzler circles above and looks down and you can see lines of blue (reflections) on his helmet showing that there is still good in him, foreshadowing his return to good.

2:06. The CGI face actually looks really good in this shot. The lighting certainly helps. Unfortunately when the lighting gets less dynamic the illusion fades away in the film. Also the motion capture wasn’t quite there yet. Here the simple eye movements and still face work

I remember watching this film on repeat as a child. It enamoured me with its visuals, aesthetic, characters, world, incredible soundtrack (from one of my all time favourite bands, Daft Punk), and the themes of Freedom, What it means to be real, and just Beauty. Now it holds a dear place in my heart and each month I watch this film. Even if Disney seems to forget it, I and many others wont. Tron Lives
If the rumors about a third movie installment is real, I genuinely hope that Daft Punk would make one last album for it, and if that aint possible, I equally hope hans zimmer would be the one in charge of the soundtrack

Daft Punk's 2nd & last time as duo cinematic composers.
Thanks to Tron: Legacy, Tron in general as a franchise is easily THE sci-fi franchise that's most recognized by its aesthetic imo. Unlike a single iconic item like a lightsaber, or a memorable shot or moment like the space and time travel scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the whole atmosphere of the entire world in The Grid is what makes Tron recognizable. The way people and beings dress, how buildings and structures are designed, and so on are all thematically consistent.

This movie was gorgeous.
I realy love this movie. He talk to me in a way that I'm realy dont'n no why, or how to explain. Even if it's not a super deep plot, the protagonist's relationship with his father really gets to me. Not only that, but I think the the aesthetics of this film is realy amazing. And not to mention the soundtrack, which is just fantastic!!! (bordering on impeccable). I always end up finding myself re-listening to her. I simply love it!!!!! ☺☺☺

I hope disney will see the possible relevance that the tron franchise may get on this time, when it came out it was way more ahead of it's time that no one put attention to it since it was "weird" but on this "all digital" world this franchise would mean a lot of sense to the ppl and will appreciate it for what is it, the world that it has created, the architecture, sounds, everything.

I’ve always felt sad that this movie was not on the map. Perhaps it was a bit before it’s time. Until recently I started to realize, it’s a gift that this movie is a hidden gem. It’s more personal to you on only you.
I just love this soundtrack so fucking much, one of my favorite movies of all time
I can't begin to state how epic this was to watch and listen to. I'm dying for a proper sequel, and this only made me want it more. Kasinski truly created a follow up masterpiece with this film. It will always be a favorite, and a demo go to.

Let talk about the music in this video. It’s so authentic almost like it can be used for tron 3. Is the same score piece used Tron legacy yes. But they changed it up where it sounds like they can continue it’s theme in Tron 3 because the soundtrack did so god damn good. It’s really good! Especially at 2:10-2:50

I watch Tron:Legacy before i watch Star Wars, and because if Tron that i love Star Wars just to capture that moment again. Although i never watch the first Tron.
The vehicle spawning-gesture from a baton is so addicting gesture that i keep imagine doing IRL and I wish this technology was real the most.
I remember teared up when Flint sacrificed himself for his son, and saying to Clu that there is no perfection.
It's Nostalgic yet it's looks so good.
It feels different. All these angles, all these CGI... They're telling a story. They look good, but they can generate feelings out of thin air.
Intentionality. A mark so many modern films are missing.
The whole film itself is a beautifully shoy masterpiece.

Wow time really flies I cant believe its been about 11 years. I remember being in Disney World before the movie came out and taking pics of the monorail with the Tron Legacy graphics painted on the side. They did it up like a light bike with the light ribbon behind it.

Daft Punk did an INCREDIBLE job, with the soundtrack for this movie.
I remember seeing this in 3D at the cinema,...as soon as the Tron-ized Disney Castle came up, I knew it was going to be an amazing visual experience 😮
Add to that, Daft Punk's sublime soundtrack & it was a treat for the ears too 👍
