    I have a 2005 Quattroporte in the dark blue with Tan interior. Bought it with 21,000 miles as a 12-year old one owner used car. It is a fantastic looking and sounding car as everyone who has reviewed it has said. My contribution to the story is a small company called Formula Dynamics and their QP Drive-by-wire module. While the Duo-Select transmission is still "quirky" the DBW module speeds up the shifts, make them more aggressive, and improves clutch actuation from a dead stop. In short it improves the QP to a point where the Duo-select in auto mode is livable and in manual mode it is a beast!
    Parts are expensive and one day I'll have to do the big $$$ clutch replacement (presently at 54% remaining) but other (gently used) parts are commonly available on e-bay and shopping around can get the basics at "affordable" prices. It's not a Ford or a Chevy and you won't be buying parts at NAPA or AutoZone. But it certainly is a gas to drive and certainly is as head turning a design as ever rolled on 4 wheels.

      Excellent summary. I have the same setup as yours, Donald. FDDBW does a wonderful job. I do not drive in auto at all. Sport + Manual for me :) . Plus the Larini setup makes it very very special!

    I bought a stunning example of a late 2009 QP S Auto last year ( black with cream leather interior) with the beautiful 4.7lt Ferrari built engine and wow does it pack a punch! The acceleration is mind blowing and the noise from the 4 exhaust pipes is just perfect. You get an awful lot of car for your money. Probably one of the best cars that Maserati have ever built so a real collectors piece in the future. Get one.....I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

    I've got the 2007 Quattroporte Sport GT in grigio granito metallic with the 20" gun metal grey alloys, ZF gearbox and beige leather with the carbon pack interior.
    Yes, she's a beauty, Yes, she's frighteningly fast. Yes, the tone from the quad pipes are legendary. Yes she can be costly to maintain but you do not worry about that, if you do then there is no point owning one. I must congratulate Maserati and Pininfarina on the design, she really is beautiful. Definitely worth every penny.
    My only criticism ? Unfortunately, I'm putting too many miles on the car as I use it every day to commute to work. However, the drive is too good and I miss it when I'm not driving so it is my fault.

    • @SomG

      I own the QP in the video above. I drive it at least 2-3 days a week. The experience of driving and ownership is absolutely worth what we pay for owning them and I do not worry at all about the miles I put on it and its value. I just look forward to starting and driving it all the time!

      M Naeem J well the reason why these cars break down is because a lot of owners dont drive it a lot (at least in the US) so you see a lot of low mileage used cars for sale but I've seen people that daily drive these on Maserati forum that has no issues other than regular maintenance.

    The old Quattroporte is starting to look nicer as it ages! With a price tag like that, it's a no brainer between this and a brand new fiesta lol

  • @SomG
    @SomG 9 лет назад +24

    I am the proud owner of the above example. I made decision with my heart for such a step and have never regretted it since. I drove both automatic and due select and the later appealed much more as it is a performance car and needs to be driven with maximum driver input. It is a racing gear box (Used in Ferrari as F1, Lamborghini as E-gear, BMW M range as SMG, as well as in Aston Martin) and changes quicker as the revs climb. I believe that is how Maserati intended it range of cars during time to be but bowed to US market to produce automatics which are brilliant and reliable cars.
    I would recommend due select / cambio corsa cars as they provide the proper thrill of owning a Maserati. Costs can be high for any example. Just see variator replacement costs for automatics :). For more info and before you buy, please check sportsmaserati.com.
    Anyway, here is the a link to what it sounds like on a day to day basis. Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/TyfBqzaYU9I/видео.html

      What can you say about the running costs?

  • @alexp-de
    @alexp-de 9 лет назад +3

    the running costs for the DuoSelect (like the one in the video) are insane. Gotta replace the clutch every 50.000km which costs up to 3000€. The better option is the later model with the ZF gearbox. Little bit smoother ride and less acceleration but no clutch wear. The looks and sound of this Quattroporte is just breathtaking.

    • @terrificspokesman7416
      @terrificspokesman7416 4 года назад

      Yeah the ZF is a better transmission I tested both and I would go for ZF any day. The DuoSelect is quite jerky and does not suit this car at all and the gear lever looks tachy plus the expensive clutch repairs . The ZF auto is very reliable and it is very smooth and it also comes with paddle shifters plus the lever is nicer. The DuoSelect gear lever is this tachy plastic chrome thing and the lever is tiny which really does not fit the Quattroportes luxurious interior with the rich plush leather and the beautiful wood trim. The DuoSelect lever is so tiny which does not suit the car well cause everything in the car is made to feel large and substantial. The ZF auto has a nice lever with leather, wood trim and the Maserati logo on the top

      Clutxches have come right down since this was posted. Average price is $1,400 which is fantastic value for a kevlar racing clutch.But madness exists and as low as $500 have been seen in adds but get snapped up almost immedately

  • @targaflorio3239
    @targaflorio3239 9 лет назад +6

    The 2007 onwards QP with the ZF gearbox the one to get. These cars ARE expensive to maintain mind you. 30,000 miles plus you're in for tyres, brakes and a change of spark plugs. Those alone can cost you around 3000 pounds. But for cachet, cool and style, nothing on the road IMO comes close. Exhaust note, styling and exclusivity to die for. Bit like dating a high maintenance, very attractive woman. Everyone likes the idea of it, but not so much the 40 pounds a glass servings of wine, expensive dinners etc.

      Tires can be as low as $200 each depending on what you go with, possibly even less for ultra high performance all seasons. Brakes can be done for well under $800. Spark plugs under $100. As with most cars, if you can do the maintenance stuff yourself these are no different at all from a standard non-AMG Mercedes in terms of cost.

    You can buy that car for a low price, but make sure you're single as that you will spend a hell of a lot of your money in the shop. Don't buy a mid 2000s quattroporte in the US (good old Doug DeMuro will tell you why) However, I can understand how tempting it can be as I am 15 and looking for my first car. I've considered a late 90s to early 2000s Porsche Boxster bc u can get them for about $6000 in the US. The only problem is having a soft top and rear wheel drive in the terrible New York City winter weather. Also I'm not sure how much I would be spending on maintence but it sure would be less than a Maserati.

  • @fundiver198
    @fundiver198 9 лет назад

    It is amazing for sure, that you can buy such a car for only 10-15k. Even its up to 12 years old. However the though of the repair bills from owning something, which need to be serviced at a Ferrari dealership, is quite scary. And that probably explains most of the "reasonable" price.

    Why do Maserati's depreciate like milk in the sun? What are the major known problems? Service costs etc?

    • @SomG
      @SomG 8 лет назад +3

      Depreciation for all Maserati models under Fiat-Ferrari ownership has now flattened. A cheap Maserati is still a Maserati and will cost a reasonable amount to maintain and drive.
      The cost difference to other Italian exotics is basically down to people not prepared to take on the cost of ownership and Maserati being less rare than Ferrari & Lamborghini.
      Eventually, pretty much like other limited production cars with brand heritage and associated driving experience, these will appreciate to a more sensible price bracket where owners who can afford them will also be able to afford the running costs.

      +1seipai Having owned 13 BMW's going back (likely) to well before you were born, including an E39, the Maserati today is what BMW used to be and is no more. I sold my BMW 850 to get one of these. (I am keeping my E30 M3, which was among the last of of the Real BMW's.)

    • @1seipai
      @1seipai 8 лет назад

      +gmonsen I agree that today BMW M cars have lost their character with forced induction. As for me not being born that's not correct. I owned an E36 and E36 Evo, an E39 M5 from new (Le Mans blue) an E46 M3 convertible, and e92 M3 coupe. The e60 M5 is the way to go for a super saloon or an E39 M5.

    • @gmonsen
      @gmonsen 8 лет назад

      +1seipai The E60 motor had the best and last decent BMW motor and I like the 6speed version of which a few were made. I do think its an interesting car and a good drive, though way too heavy and computerized for my tastes. I actually prefer the E28 to all the others, primarily due its size, weight, and handmade craftsmanship. I find the Maser Q4, especially with the troublesome F1 box a really interesting and beautiful car quite more appealing than any BMW made since about 1995. Its all a matter of taste and preferences and maybe even age. (BTW, we are of different generations, which explains a lot. I started with two 2002's, a 2800CS, then two more 3.0CS's, two 80's era 735's, an 850, the E30 M3, and an E39 M.)

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD 8 лет назад

      +1seipai I like M5s as much as the next guy, but the ones in this price range look very dated, and the interior materials don't compare to what this car offers. I do find the exterior of the Maserati looks plain and dated, as well as the knobs and buttons inside, but the rest looks great. As nice as an M5 sounds, this sounds amazing, although I wouldn't be able to live with it personally.
