But look at everything your taxes get you. No crime, no homeless, great schools.
Hah.
No but the taxes are going to such great causes! Like turning half of the roads into hazardously shaped parking and concrete medians.
:)
Good luck finding a job in Oregon that pays anything close to that. Most are around 40k
I live in portland, my salary is also around 200k, that is without deductions, I average 24% tax. it is high but we get a lot for it.
Exactly.... stupid misleading video. If they're serious, they really should hire an a CPA to do their taxes. No deductions? C'mon
I paid more taxes in texas than in oregon. Property taxes in texas are no joke. 20k a year just in property taxes on top 8.25% sales tax on everything you buy. their public parks are kids parks, they do not have real recreational areas like we do in oregon.
Not trashing texas, texas has it’s own set of benefits like cheaper houses better and newer houses, better road infrastructure, cheap meat etc. It is just preference on life style. I like the mountains, fishing and a more outdoor life style.
In texas is more a city life, they do have outdoor activities like off-roading but it is expensive, while you can go most camping site in oregon in any car.
Now add 401k and bills and you’ll have none left
So you're saving for retirement and covering your expenses. You live in an area with low crime. BLM didn't actually burn down the city in 2020 (though I stayed away from downtown, too). Good roads, clean water, clean air, safe cars, tenant protections, etc.
I live in Portland and we don't make that. Ask what their job title is at Nike. Do about 60k on average and run those numbers.
They're probably some overpaid middle manager that has minions do all their work for them, They'll probably get laid off ass soon as they have a bad fiscal year.
I feel like this is common sense and shouldn’t be a surprise
But is it a surprise that Mitt Romney paid 13.2% or Jeff Bezos pays 0.98%? Taxes go up with income until it hits the rich and then it goes back down.
That’s probably not enough to afford a house in Portland. Probably not even a decent condo, either.
I live om Denmark, this is low if you ask me. You pay 50 % over here, easy…

Look up how much you have to pay to put your kids to school. In order to LIVE in PDX with a family? You have to make close to 300,000 a year just to have a house and cars and kids. AND THAT IS JUST TO LIVE MIDDLE CLASS!

Right? I was thinking that’s not too bad what about those living here with more common annual payments? 200k isn’t average for Portland
Percentage-wise? People who make less pay at lower tax rates.

As someone who worked in portland and lived in Washington until only a month ago I also paid washington sales tax too.
And as a preschool teacher I got near no benefits and was paid what would have been less than minimum wage in Washington
Its the art tax that really pisses folks !!
Do you own a house?
Most of the taxes you put up are taxes that come with owning a house/property.
And I see absolutely nothing wrong with paying 36% of your income if you are making %200k/year. You still have an income of roughly $130k/year. That's still plenty for you to live on quite comfortably. High earners owe more to society than low earners do.

Yep, this is my world.
Left off the 10 cent a gallon gas tax. The 1% tax on business income of companies with over a billion in national sales or $500k in Portland annually. This is just passed on to consumers, some stores actually showing it as a line item on receipts.
