I agree...JD ended when Ian died...NO went on after Hooky left...Music Complete should not have been released under the NO name. I will not buy another NO recording until Sumner, Morris, Gilbert and Hook are the songwriters.
@@burnedbeans4170 Technically speaking, New Order shouldn't have released a record as New Order without Gillian (WFTSC). Besides, he left of his own accord. So, your logic is fine as long as you apply it equally to all identical circumstances.
@@burnedbeans4170 a kind of radikal-New Order or what? Music Complete is great and the proof they are very able to create wonderful songs without Peter Hook (which I love too!)
I remember catching this on TV at the time completely by accident. Fascinated by the fact almost all the music was being played via a sequencer. Now of course it would all be on one MacBook 😀
A great story about this performance can be found in Hooky's autobiography Substance. This was originally supposed to be his band's Revenge debut but...(read the book to find out the rest ; )
Used to tape this programme every sunday night/monday morning and couldn't wait to watch it every monday morning before school. It opened many doors for me, culturally. Love Tony Wilson, RIP.
Hooky was very angry here. Because it was meant to be his side project's debut (band called Revenge), but they wanted New Order. Didn't speak to Tony for a while after this.
@Erica There must be thousands of bass players over the decades Peter, was self taught which him and Bernard decided to form a band I like the way Hooky, keeps it all simple and unique to all his style He played The happy 1 at Gloucester book signing in 2010 He spent over 3 hours talking to about 10 fans after the book signing event which was only one hour He signed loads of stuff for fans. Top night with a legend.
Oh my god - look at the little rinky dinky Apple Macintosh Classic in the background. We used to have one of those at work too - my first induction to graphic design using a computer too! Yowsa! Ahhhh the memories of the late 80s eh??? Lets not forget the legend that is Mr AH Wilson too...... :-)
@sinfanti I actually stayed up when I was a child to watch this, and was slightly dissapointed and I shall tell you why. It was at the time when "Fine Time" was riding high in the UK charts and the programme OSM that you see above was advertising all week that "NEW ORDER" was on it with the video for fine time running in the background - imagine my dissapointment when it was just hooky playing a song that never saw the light of day! buggers!! Still great to see though after all these years!
Tony Wilsons accent was just the result of 3 years at Cambridge University (you've heard Stephen Frys accent no doubt!) Before that he had a Stockport/Salford accent. Either way he was always a charismatic lovely human being.
He's not having an attitude. He was pissed and he was all the right about being pissed because of what happened before this performance. It's in his book.
Hook would be the first i think to admit that he is not playing the typical bassist role in his band. It's more a lead guitar really. But there needs to be people to challenge the accepted roles of instruments in music. Like him or hate him, he did that. I prefer Simon Gallup who still by and large kept a more traditional bassist role while still going for a melodic feel. Both use Eccleshall. i wonder who got theirs first.... This is 1989, and Gallup first documented use is also '89...hmm...
It's a 70s clone theory with a smidge of distortion. Hooky's bass here also has a preamp which I suspect has the bass reduced and the highs and mids boosted.
Great TV. Takes me right back. Also a perfect illustration of the defining dilemma of "Anthony H Wilson" - fantastic music : irritating, pretentious w**ker!
8 años después te dire que es un modelo para el, es un bajo semi acústico que le construyeron con la circuiteria de un Bajo Yamaha Bb 2100 (creo es el modelo si no me equivoco)
Christ! Just imagine.... The edge ("Yeah right!" (Bill Bailey)) with catastrophic failure of his effects boxes, sharing a stage with Hooky on bass and the Drummer out of Bros......... Wow! What a power-trio that would be! Band name The Holy Trinity of shite!
on the speaker cabinet... does it say NERO or NERD? nerd rules, i guess. anyways, peter hook is at least 51 percent of new order. his bass riffs permeates and pretty much defines the band. okay, the singer and his lyrics and melodies are alright too. new order is underrated.
Thank fuck this never made it onto Technique. It's a mediocre track and was used on 'Making Out' as incidental music, same show the used 'Vanishing Point'.
Sam Wulfekotter You were clearly not around at the time or just not a fan (as everyone seems to be now). Technique (minus "fine time") is and was legendary!
@ Andrew Wilton. Technique (INCLUDING "Fine Time") is and was legendary! Kinda think people who slag off tracks like Fine Time, Confusion and Tutti Fruitti, don't really get what Neworder's about. 2 Reply
We love you Hooky.....New Order isn't New Order without you....

Hooky must've been so chuffed to get to play his bass the loudest!

Yep, I miss Tony too. Always controversial but he did more than anyone in the 1980s to put Manchester on the world Map
A good series.
Tony RIP🙏
RIP Tony Wilson and all hail the brilliant music that he promoted and played and introduced.
Tony Wilson was a creepy cunt.

One of the best bass players ever IMHO
Hahaha bollocks fuck off , best bass player ? Hahahaha he's fucking shit
@@CAVERN1234 how? He's melodic, not too often heard on bass players.

LOL "he has to go to bed early". That was an ironic comment. Apparently they used to argue because Bernard never wanted to wake up in the morning.
this song is infectious. Love it!
Love his attitude! Yo too cool Hooky! :)
First recorded performance of The Light.
:P
My brothers old school mate did the theme tune for this show. Yargo

Peter Hook is a GOD!!
Gawd, I've always loved this clip. The sheer pop genious of Steve, Gillian and Hooky. My fave NO phase.
Thanks for posting this, Nick!

Awesome song!
New order and Joy Division= pure genious!
J'adore cette musique !
oh my god - i've got tis on video too!! amazing
i remember sneaking downstairs to watch OSM :)
Hooky rules.
id love to get hold of some full episodes of OSM
Rob Gretton standing off camera yelling “this isn’t a Revenge gig, this is a New Order gig!”
No way would we find this without YT. Shpow bow shpow be bowdy bow. Shpow Shpow bow bow. Bow bow de bow bow.
He's not having an attitude. He was pissed and he was all the right about being pissed because of what happened before this performance. It's in his book.
Tell us what it says in the book.
Poor Hooky...
Harry Fryer kept insisting hooky to play a new order piece and the other members of hookys band, revenge, watched backstage I believe
He doesn't seem drunk but whaddo i know.... ;-)
@@maxdefrankerRob Gretton cock-blocked Hooky from playing this with his fledgling band, Revenge.
Hook's band Revenge was supposed to play this show, but Rob Gretton begged him to not play a New Order song with other musicians.
Love how tony roasts hookys stance when he plays
NOWtheband playful banter if you’re wanting to be pedantic
nice to see hookys taste in trainers not changed

Hooky's used the eccleshall's for live performances since '82. Uses the BB1200s for all his recordings.
The best part of New Order are the synth bass lines and Peter Hook playing lead bass over them
and mr hook made the machines sing
This is waaaay more New Order than what is going around as New Order nowadays.
New Order Kick Arse!!! as do Joy Division..... and yes, i am talking in the present tense. Good music never dies you know.
I was there
You would have to be a freak to not enjoy that!
so fucking brilliant . God Bless Hooky
I would argue he's as good as Jah Wobble
Ha Ha Ha...very very nice good sir.
Genius
I've NEVER been the Happy One. 😢
Fucking great! 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
great
Find a remix at SoundCloud - look for The Happy One (The Isle's Intermediary Mix)
So...fucking...good.
So many wires
Duanne Eddy meets New Order
technology sure has come a long way since 30 years ago.. whew!
Anyone know how to get this tone? I can get pretty close with an EHX bass chorus pedal, maybe reverb or flanger?
It's a 70s clone theory with a smidge of distortion. Hooky's bass here also has a preamp which I suspect has the bass reduced and the highs and mids boosted.

He'd commonly paint GUITAR NERO on his bass cabs.
you mean peter hook?
O
Not great but still would have made a great replacement to fine time.
Shit

Love Hook - Rubbish tune
Lame comment
Good grief this is terrible. I can only guess that it was one or other of the other three who used to tune his bass.
Jealous of his lovely hair?!?
@@MrMikelush I wonder what conditioner he uses.
Sounds nice but is a total waste of a bass really
How? The synths are playing the bass part, the bass guitar is playing the melody
This is a new order song.
he's never heard New Order before
It's a bass. Not a guitar. He's trying to use it for what it wasn't meant to be used for. And it sounds shit.
mozbow666 hence New Order’s everlasting cultural significance and popularity? lol why would you even watch this if you’re clearly not a fan
It's a bass guitar, and he can do what the fuck he wants with it.
awful
what's awful, your taste in music?
