For those asking about the 'skin' cover of the book.. Educated guess as I use the same methods - The first stage is sculpting the detail and texture in water based clay (the orange/terracotta stuff 7:26). Then a plaster mold is taken of the sculpture (the white thick stuff painted on top 7:37). Once the plaster is dry, you can then peel off the sculpted layer of clay (7:52). Pigmented liquid latex is then painted on top in a succession of layers (8:02). Once dry you can then peel the latex off in one piece (8:12) and you have a flexible skin copy of your initial clay sculpture. Hope this helps 🙂
@@nicolegranieri6373 The black backing is just pigmented latex. The last couple of coats of latex will have black acrylic paint mixed in with it to give that finished look
@@douglasbarnett2909 Any liquid latex you can buy in craft stores. Google liquid latex (sometimes referred to as Casting Latex) and you'll find online stores near you or that will ship worldwide. Hope this helps
Not going to happen. Why do people post thing to ‘show how to make it’ when they give no decryption or notes of materials? Purely to show off and not helpful!
Okay, this is amazing. I want it. I've never seen such detail and realism done while making the spell book from Hocus Pocus. Incredible! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🖤🖤🖤 "Booooooooook" think it'll come if I yell loud enough?
The detail to this is absolutely incredible, you are so talented! I started my book a couple years ago but never got around to finishing. With Halloween coming up once again, I'm finally going to finish it and I came back to this video for tips. Absolutely amazing!
Just wish you went into detail. I made one last year and I’m looking to make another with higher quality like this one. What kind of clay did you use to mold the cover?
The best one I've Seen yet. I would say tho, at that point, you're in the project neck deep anyways, I probably would've gone all out and melted some solder or aluminum to put in the snake molds so they were real metal. It's easier than you'd think
Im definately not the creator but im pretty sure by looking at it that he used clay for the "skin" of the book. Id look for a kind of terricotta clay in a craft store or if you cant find that, try mixing red and brown paint into a white clay. It might also be a kind of rubber. Im not completely sure. Hope it helps though! Also sorry that i saw your comment so late!
He used a clay to create the form, after which he made the skin using layers of a liquid latex pour over the clay mapped out skin form in order for it to be pliable for the stitching details, and to get it as closely detailed to resemble skin as possible.
Yes...I agree with everyone else...you should make a bunch and sell them, you would make bank and you have real talent...I can see you making more accessories for hocus pocus and selling those as well...Think about it
I would also like to know what was used to make the skin for the book? I hope you can answer our question or give use some kind of feed back cause I notice that this question was asked about 3 months ago and we are all still waiting for a response. Please don’t keep your fans in the dark. Thank you

To me it looks like he made a mold for the cover/skin. He used clay to design out what he wants the skin to look like. Then he made a mold out if it. Then he used something like Silicone Rubber poured into the mold. When dried he painted it...
Most likely it looks like he sculpted the details with Clay (non sulfur), made a silicone block mold, then cast them in resin and hand painted them to look like metal. The skin looks to be either faux or real leather, but judging from the backing on it I'm guessing faux.
Whoops what I thought was skin was just the box liner. He definitely sculpted the skin, then cast it. Just off the look of it I'd guess a dragonskin silicone. But don't forget that silicone can only be painted with more silicone.

Royal Robson do you have any idea what he used for the black backing on the liquid latex?

Do you have a suggestion for a particular liquid latex? I am new to this.

Just wish you went into detail. I made one last year and I’m looking to make another with higher quality like this one. What kind of clay did you use to mold the cover?
Did anyone else notice that the snakes at the corners appear to be biting? That the “skin” is puckered. So interesting!

Wow amazing work I made one last year for my wife and it doesn't compare to yours!
I have a question. What did you use to make the “human skin” for the book? I’m thinking on making a replica myself. Please let me know. Thank you

Do you sell them?! Id love to buy one. This is amazing!!!
I'm thinking the same thing
What did you make your molds out of? Very good idea if you are making these for customers.
I wonder what kind of medium (the black liquid) was poured into the snake corner and binding molds? Any guesses?
Did you make that eyeball too?
Wow!!!😊
Since you made moulds......do you sell the snakes and other parts?
wow 👌🙌👏👍👍
Yes...I agree with everyone else...you should make a bunch and sell them, you would make bank and you have real talent...I can see you making more accessories for hocus pocus and selling those as well...Think about it
He can’t. The book design is patented to The movie
