Adam is a short film created with the Unity game engine and rendered in real time. It’s built to showcase and test out the graphical quality achievable with Unity in 2016. It runs at 1440p on a GeForce GTX980.

Look, I keep saying this over and over... WHY are these BRILLIANT animations accompanied by story lines that are totally obscure or nonexistent? PLEASE use your amazing talent to tell a story that the viewer can actually understand.

I'm in awe of the animation quality here. The movement is unreasonably realistic and the models are brilliantly styled. I loved every second of this film. Its professional movie quality animation and I"m in love with it.

First, I loved this animation and every compliment I gave it is merely a grouping of shallow words that vaguely express the depth of my admiration for this masterpiece.
Second, I'd never want an animation job, ever for any reason.

Check out SOMA by frictionalgames. A game of the year candidate for several gaming portals and a solid piece of sci-fi. It even made markiplier shut up. That's quite a feat.
This isnt look that good in game. A big part of beauty of this short film is story telling methods and the right pace: camera movements, camera angles, camera cuts, effects (DOF etc..) etc etc..

After seeing Oats Films continuation of this, how did you know? I don't even think the animators had any idea for this plot. Lucky guess?

Reminds me of something I came up with some time ago, though there where some differences to how it worked in my idea.
The robots seemed to be human. The first one was confused by its appearance and tried to take his face off as if its were a mask and his real face was underneath. It seems that humans were downloaded into the machines against their wills.

Looks to me like criminals that have been uploaded into bots are finally released when they have served their time. Previous bots that have moved out into the world and are now existing there come and get them to go...who knows where...to a new life? The 'guards' certainly looked scared once the travelling two arrived that's for sure, running back into the sanctuary of their fortress. I can only hope this is the intro to a wonderful new open world game someone ins working on....
I was thinking almost exactly the same thing. What didn't match though is that the bots seemed surprised and scared after being woken up, like they figured out they were no longer humans at that moment. This means that they couldnt have finished serving their time, but probably just started.
I think it could be their sentence is to live as a robot and discover what humanity really is, to act as a method of treatment for felony offenders. Those that discover what it means to be human find their way back to the facility and are given a new 'lease on life'. However there are those that reject their humanity in favor of power in their new world and create a new existence that others may want to assimilate to. Those two are emissaries that have rejected humanity altogether or are nearing the end of their sentence? That's my two cents.

Its amazing how game engines have evolved. From pixel-looking games to photo-realistic real time renders. I believe this makes rendering high quality animation much more affordable. No need for waiting days, weeks or even months for a render to complete.
3 years and stills looks astonishingly better than the cgi in some movies nowadays...

This went from being something cool with great graphics, to something that made my eyes tear. This video stunned me on so many levels, I still have a hard time comprehending it.

The graphic is absolutely next level stuff but the atmosphere and feel of the story itself is what makes it great. Totally atmospheric which kinda make you feel like you are in the world of the story. Really pulls you into the story. Hope this masterpiece will be made into a film or movie or game.

How dare you insult my god?! (Unity is indeed good at real time renders, as long as they are close up. If you look closely, they avoid doing long distanse rendering, as their engine is not optimized for compacting and distorting textures. I asume thats why the two robots in the distance had a blur-ish effect, effectively blurring out the edges with the non-optimized distance effects.)
((Also, the physics sometimes mess up, like the "belt" you see on the robot at 4:42... Just flapping all around lol.))

So... they were convicts, their consciousness transfered to robots, and then freed and given a blank slate .... somewhere else?
it does seem they used to be human, because of how the main dude reacted to his body when he woke up, but the way the two free robots scared away the humans makes me think the prisoners weren't being freed so much as they were being let out, perhaps to do farm work or something like that? Otherwise why would they bother putting their crimes on their chests if the two free bots would just wipe them away anyway? It could be a really cool setting for an amazing story, where the human society is corrupt and brands anyone who doesn't fall in line a criminal, strips them of their body and individuality, and used them as workers until their spirits break and put them back in their body as "perfect citizens". But outside the walls of the city, some prisoners broke free, and free other prisoners to try and form some form of revolution? They way they seemed to be the same models as the others, but customised would be like them trying to take back their individuality, and if it were a game, would be a cool way to introduce character customisation. Shame it seems to end with this short tho :/
Just a thought, back in Ancient Greece, if you committed a crime, authorities would chop off a leg and burn a letter into your skin before releasing you. You were free to go but everywhere you went, people knew you had broken the law. So maybe the "crimes on their chests" thing is so the public knows they are former criminals.

the production quality on this one was so god damn good
My interpretation was that the androids were once human and turned robotic for they're crimes. The guards released them for work and the two other bots seemed to have been trouble for the guards and freed the old convicts.

I know but I still assume they used to be humans. Because he looked so confused to see his appearance(body) in the reflection of the floor 1:21, and where he was. The voice inside of him was probably gonna be like "who the fuck am I?! where is it?" Also, I think the sound of breathing can be heard by only us(audience).

That's not helpful CGMeetup. lol. I believe the reference to "Not understanding" refers to the plot, not the cgi or real time render output of an engine.
Personally, I loved the story told without dialogue. I enjoyed the plot shrouded in mystery forcing the audience to sit down for 6 minutes and decipher the clues and draw your own conclusions. It's an amazing teaser. I could explain my opinions but where's the fun in that - just watch it again and look a little closer
+Michael Hartman The large individual appeared to be Raven like a symbol of death. Also resembling the prisoners in body. Pronounced ribs imply starvation, near dead, or a skeleton hence death, near death, or the "living dead".

There are also some small changes here and there. Like how Adam's (assuming that's his name) display on his chest says "Felony Code", whereas before it was blank
Just those words "Felony Code" kinda give me an idea of why they're all like this, and why the humans are treating them like shit. Possibly all of them were prisoners of crime before?

although it was short my take on it is, future criminals as a punishment get digitized and implanted in these shells hence his reaction upon waking up and the felony numbers on their chests. Then they are sent to work farms or something like that.

The beginning of this reminded me of a comic I read probably in the early 70s about a criminal who is sentanced to life as a virtual soldier who fights and dies over and over. That and a little bit of Edge Of Tomorrow... Pretty damn cool.
I'm not going to over think this one, I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is. Very well done. four thumbs up.
I didn't know what real time meant and I thought this CG used "ray-tracing" like other CGs. Then I realised that "Real Time Rendering" is like how we render games. HOLY COW, THIS SHORT MOVIE DOES SHOWCASE A LOT! THE CROWD, MEANING A LOT OF ENTITIES, THE DETAILS, AND THE ATTENTION TO ACCURATE PHYSICS

The militarized Dr. Scientist Troopers were actually genuinely cool looking and scary as villains. Would love to see close ups and concept art. The flaps going over their legs reminded me of Chinese soldiers in ancient and medieval times.
