Was at a junkyard today and saw that engine in an old school bus. Thinking about getting it even more now. Already have a 7.3 power stroke to put in my current project, one day
Dt360 is one of the best engines I've worked on. I've never seen one that doesn't run its always high miles/hours smokes out the vent tube and keeps on running, or it's had a Catastrophic failure, rod through the side, turbo explodes, cracked sleve, but never seen on that runs bad. And thay are easy to work on
That’s why after learning about them we knew we had to put it in the loadstar! And keeping it an international engine was much cooler than doing the cummins swap.
I love those roadster bodies. Keep thinking about dropping one onto a 1 ton chassis and then doing something crazy with the engine. Can’t do the DT360 because I plan on putting one in my suburban. Maybe a CAT engine?
learned something new. I mean it makes sense why timing would still be a thing, but don't think I ever had thought about a diesel and a timing light going together
I really like the turn signals you put on the fenders. Look alot better if the marker lights on top were the same, and think of the aerodynamic advantage.
Nice rig. I always thought it would have been more interesting if Ford had used this motor rather than the DT 444 (7.3L Powerstroke). It's a solid motor, but the 360 is more efficient with the straight 6 and easier to work, especially with the wet sleeves. Not to mention it sounds friggin' amazing.
Also, I was curious how you guys were able to use a timing light on a mechanically injected engine? I was always under the impression that you needed to time the pump before installing it and ensure that cyl #1 was at TDC compression before you installed the pump to make sure it was properly timed. And since a timing light senses the pulse from the spark on a gas engine, how does it work on a diesel?
I honestly don’t know how it senses the injector firing. But we hooked up the sensor to the #1 injector line and it tells you when it’s firing. You need to know where the pump is timed at. As well as where the engine is timed at as well. You can set either one of them. Or adjust them together. Decide what your desired advance number is. Example. If you want to set it to 20 degrees. And you have the pump pinned at 18 degree. You need to set the engine at 2 degrees to reach 20 combined. So you can adjust either one to reach what you want. The guy who rebuilt our injection pump told us what he pinned it at.
Love the truck man! Just an FYI, try not to use your hand when looking for leaks near the fuel lines. If there's a leak from the lines, the rail pressure can inject diesel into your hand and kill you if it gets to your heart or brain. Try to use a piece of paper or cardboard when checking for leaks on the injection system👍👍
Woah that's a good tip. I know what you mean about super high pressure like that. Sometimes painters accidentally hold their hand or arm up to their high-pressure paint sprayer nozzle and inject paint right into their skin. It's absolutely disgusting what happens next. Your body takes the signal of foreign liquid in the interstissual area and just tries to kill of that whole part of your body. Your hand can die and become gangrenous VERY quickly which is a great way to get blood poisoning AND lose your hand unless you get to a doctor quick. They have to do surgery and clean out the paint inside your tissue ASAP. Diesel fuel is probably similar, even if it doesn't make it into a vein and into your bloodstream.
@@skylargrabner6771 it's a saying... For those of us who grew up with guns... As for the p pump, it doesn't make enough pressure to hurt you, but still, safe habits are good. Just like treating a gun as if it's always loaded. You follow me?
Love the ride, I just purchased a dt466 ,manual with split rear. Super excited to get the loadstar cab soon. What size wheels did you get? And how much of the tunnel did you have to modify? I know the 466 is larger but I’m trying to get a game plan right before I start. Any advice?
These are 24.5 wheels. We had to cut a lot out of the firewall and build a dog box. The 466 will require a lot more cutting and will go a lot more into the cab.
I wish my dt360 sounded like this it's hooked to a 4 speed auto so it's just a little bit of acceleration noise then nothing but turbo whistle for the rest of the ride lol
Well you need your main wire from the battery. And then if you just jump 12v to the starter Solenoid it will start and run if it has fuel. Once it’s running it doesn’t need any wires because it’s mechanical.
Can you tell me what radiator you used and what fan? I am putting a chevy c60 cab on a 93 international 4700 with a dt360 and radiator and fan is to high that is my only concern
That truck is bad ass!!! I love how it sound during the drive by ! 23:23

What trans are you using

Thanks for the help!

Sounded great when it was running.
It does sound so good!
Glad is back together
Me to!

Haha yeah we could tell the old ones were holding us back! These are cab lights for a 98 dodge. They flow really well with the fenders.
Cool build, I’m getting ready to do similar on my 1968 F600
Thanks! Good luck with your build.

It is a great engine. I would trust driving this thing across country. And it does sound amazing.
Pretty clever on the bolt with sandpaper!
Worked like a charm! And sure beats 30 dollars for the “correct tool”
@@gingerauto Totally beats the cost, and good old American ingenuity wins again!
I use brake clean to clean out those holes and it just fine

I believe the sensor picks up the minute flexing of the injector line when the pump builds pressure just prior to the injector popping off.
Awesome truck!
Thanks
COSTA RICA,saludos, . very nice truck.
Thank you 🙌🏻
Nice job cool truck guys
Mount a truck bed camper on for a sleeper and mount a 5th wheel and a gooseneck ball on back perfect Hotshot rig

What kind of transmission did you put in the truck? And what is the transmission out of?
Don’t know what it’s out of. But eats an Eaton fuller fs06406. 6 speed with an overdrive.
What transmission and rear end you have
You guys need to put a small 10 or 13 spd od in that thing
I don’t want to shift 7 times to get up to 60.

We used the radiator out of our 71 loadstar1800. We don’t have a fan yet. Probably do electric fans.
When you dropped the dt360 in, would the 360 motor not fit on the gas cradle?
They mount differently.

Looking to get some input on a loadstar I'm trying to build
On what?
Hey what is your overall tire diameter you’re running 24.5s machined down correct?
Yes they are 24.5 machines down. And I think they total diameter is around 33 inches if I remember correct.
Is that the original chassis to the truck?
Yes
What front axel did you use
It’s off an 04 f650
Thanks a lot I’m building a 74 roadstar 1800
What kind of wheels are those and how much they cost?
They are Alcoa wheels from jk motor sports. Cost around 3200 for all six mounted and balanced and shipped.
Nice job ? 🤔
Thanks ?
What intercooler is that from or is it stock?
We found it in a short school bus in the junkyard. It fit perfect with a few modifications.
What mpg are you getting? Thinking of doing a similar swap if it improves mileage
Honestly have no idea.
These DT360's are not great on fuel fyi.
Will you sale this truck. If so how much
Probably never would. To much sentimental value.
why is he using the clutch on every shift?
Don’t got an answer for ya. Because he was haha
haha?@@gingerauto

So I sat thru the entire video for you to not tell us the rpm change with the higher gears, bummer.
How did you lower the front? I just picked one up and i wanna lower the front a little..
We mounted the axle over the leaf springs. And notched the frame a little.
