Did you ever consider anodizing the pipe instead of oxidizing? There's much more colors options with different voltage. I just got my new FMF Ti system and wondering if I should do it with volts or heat. Don't want to damage my new pipe. What do you think? Thanks!
For those asking about stainless... You can get some pretty awesome colors in stainless, but be warned you're destroying the corrosion protection that stainless offers. On stainless steel, for example, any color in the weld or HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) shows that an oxide layer has formed, which can affect corrosion resistance. The darker the color is, the thicker the oxidization. The colors follow a predictable pattern, from chrome to straw to gold to blue to purple. Those colors can be cleaned off mechanically or chemically, or both, and the corrosion resistance can be restored. And that’s the big deal with using stainless steel, right? Corrosion resistance.
BTW same principles apply to Ti but you also are compromising the integrity of the Titanium itself by cooking it this way. It's common in the automotive and motorcycle world do this for cosmetic purposes, but there should be a big warning that by using this process you are purposefully contaminating the metal and weld areas. Titanium at higher temps likes to grab hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen from the air. When these are mixed with the base metal it drastically reduces the ductility and strength of the material and weld. Not saying anything done here is wrong. Just know before you go. Shits expensive.
@@dangerousmomo1 is there any reason why we should be concerned about exhaust pipe strength? I mean they're kinda just hanging there, they're not suppose to hold any weight other then the pipes itself, or am i missing something here?

Yeah but only if it’s raw steel (like the works ones) or you could strip the stock pipe really not worth doing the entire pipe though because 2stroke pipes dent so easily and heating the pipe will soften the steel so stick to the welds and let the bike do the rest
