- This is the story of how a 13 foot open sailing dinghy sailed her way across Bass Strait and around Tasmania.
Many thanks to Geoff Macqueen for giving Small Craft Tasmania the opportunity to tell this story.

Congratulations Geoff what an achievement to have completed.Excellent job Mat of bringing this story to light so that we can appreciate it in full.
Hats off to you both.
Thanks Bruce. Hope we can sail together one day soon. Mat & Jo (and Geoff!).
@@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sx Yes that would be great.
I congratulate Geoff for understating his achievements , I fish and sail around tassie and I want to say I am seriously impressed by solo dinghy sailing the west coast . Respect.
Awesome adventure
Maiden has just won the Ocean Globe Race but you’ve captured the essence of sailing in this video. Wonderful presentation. Thank you.
Epic. What a testament to Geoff's seamanship and to John Welsford's designs. Great video, thanks.
Well this voyage just rooted the guy who sailed Bass Strait in his 80 year old 26 ft Couta boat . Now we await the 10 ft solo crossing. Well done to all of them.
Unreal lLove it well done Sir
Bass and Flinders would be proud.
Let’s go!! Reminds me of something like an outside your zone mission!
Congratulations Geoff. That is a proper adventure!
The Houdini is quite the capable boat. We sail ours here on the west coast of Florida, which is a bit more sedate than the west coast of Tasmania! Nice to see her sailing in her element.
Amazing!
Great stuff mate
He’ll of an achievement, good on you Geoff. Great video, thanks.
Another great video Mat, thanks for sharing.Congratulation Geoff on you completion of another epic leg in your circumnavigation. A great adventure in a sturdy little boat, welldone.
This is absolutely amazing. Somewhere between Eva Zu Beck and Alluring Artic Sailing.
Liked and subbed.
Inspirational stuff and scary, thanks Mat for telling the story, cheers Paul
Thanks for the heads up what a great trip around that coast courageous act managed with sticking to well considered plans
Well done Geoff!
Thanks Matt for this excellent video, and congratulations to Geoff for an astonishing achievement.
The restless spirit of people always pushing the limits. But this dinghy sail is pure love of "getting out there and giving it a go."
Great video Mat! Fabulous yarn with Geoff
Lime Bay is a beautiful, calm and peaceful place to end your epic voyage. Congratulations on a very incredible circumnavigation.
Great video. Even though video makes waves look smaller, even the waves you were sailing through in this video looked pretty solid, which gave weight to Geoff talking about the really big swells he encountered on the west coast. Fascinating details about his dingy build and rig choices - his simple and straightforward approach really stood out. So many things to like about this. Another really fascinating video.
Great stuff fellas, glad I came across this channel and Geoffs channel, instant subs to both. Can't believe I haven't come across this channel before, these are just the channels I love. Cheers from South Australia
Thank you again for another wonderful video. The Houdini is so little and open, definitely a man who loves the sea. I'd like to see what he would do with Johns' latest boat.
Yeh Houdini. Great to hear the details of the trip and what he had to do when things went pear shaped. Specially the capsize in Bass Straight and the extra difficulty because he was at sea. Cheers
What a fantastic accomplishment - congratulations! I grew up in Tassie and often sailed a huon planked cray dinghy from Lauderdale or Cremorne across the bay to Slopen Island and Lime Bay. That episode brought back a lot of great memories.
Wow. Sounds like a fantastic time.
Nice 🤟
A hug from everyone here in Brazil❤💚🧡🖤💯
And a hug from everyone in Northern Tasmania. AKA the Mainland.
bloody brilliant...well done that man!
Gobsmacked, thats impressive. And inspirational...:-)
Congratulations to your friends successful journey.
Then I give the community the story of Webb Chiles who sailed 3/4 around Earth in a Drascombe Lugger named Chidiock Tichborne.
Your friend is about to grow great (hint 😅 ) ambitions I hope!
Great trip! What a blast you must have had. Check out Ant Steward around alone, he's a South African guy who sailed around the world in a small open boat. An unbelievable accomplishment.
Another great video. Thanks.
fantastic adventure!!
An awesome story.
very inspiring
Great vid!! Woo hoo!
Congrats..😊
Nice work
Wow! Amazing. Well done Geoff! Thanks for doing the story, Mat. Great work.
I'd like to know more about that electric OB. Something like that would really work on mine.
Im just about to do a coastal run from Syd to Qld in a 36 and I'm nervous, this guy does Tassie in a dingy!!!! wow Well done
Sydney to BNE is no mean feat. Fairly long stretches between anchorages and against the current. Have done it many times and it’s always a challenge. Safe trip.
Is you are alive??
@@handroids1981 I totally agree. That is one massive achievement!
Great little boat. Have you a make and model of the electric outboard. Might suit my small boat if I could find out more about it.

Geoff's electric motor set up is the way, I have always envisioned one should be on a sailboat. Out of the way, but handy when needed. Any information you could provide about it would be great. Maybe a short video about it. That would be great. Thanks, Dale FL USA
My thoughts as well Dale! I made a youtube video of the set-up back when I installed it (you'll find it in the link Mat gave above). The wiring has been improved a bit with the Anderson plug, but other than that it's the same. Besides the limitations of speed and range, I've been pretty happy with the set-up. I'm not aware of anyone copying it, though I recon a proper manufacturer could do something really nice with the idea.
Great vid. Love the OB set up. What is the make/model?
it's an old model made by minn kota. if you google electric outboard 'pods' there's a few newer designs on the market now.
Would love to see Geoffs other videos. What is his channel called. I have looked, but cannot find it. Thanks in advance. 😊

You legend.
👍
73! So you are a Ham as well?
How can I see more videos of Geoff’s journey

Hello, could you please tell me what app you are using to display boat speed on your apple watch?
Waterspeed
@@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sxThank you very much. I really enjoyed your video.
West coast must of been a challenge
Yeah, isn't West Coast Tassie the most difficult sailing in Aus?
What's that watch/speedo shown at 6:53?
Apple Watch Ultra running the app: Waterspeed.
whe i finish restoring my mirror i want to do this
Mirror? Eh?

Great vid, thanks for the adventure.
