  • This Epic Episode documents the final leg of Geoff Macqueen’s solo circumnavigation of Tasmania in ‘Dinghy Spart’, a 13’2” open sailing dinghy.
    Mat is lucky enough to join Geoff for this final leg, and together they share one of their most memorable sailing experiences attempting something few boats this size would embark upon.
    The two boats cover nearly 100nm over four days to round two of Tasmania’s most iconic Capes and complete a full circumnavigation of The Tasman Peninsula (Turrakana).

    What an adventure by two gung-ho sea-dogs! I loved how the footage swapped back and forth between the two boats, especially in the vicinity of the sea cliffs.

    You had a lot of things go right for you on that trip! The wind against the tidal flow was perfect. I slept in a bivvy on Cape Pillar. It's such a windy spot there's a plain on the top called "Hurricane Flats". The night we were there the power was knocked out on Bruny Island.

    When sea kayaking around the Burrup Peninsula (WA) we've had hump backs come from several miles away to say hello. They got so close you could smell their fishy breath! They are pretty curious about us.

    What a great trip, thats a voyage to remember. Houdini looks to be a real fast little boat, love the trailer sailer, such an easy way to go sailing, because of their simplicity weight and ease of launching and sailing these boats get used so much more than keel boats sitting at a berth in a marina with it's constant maintaining and costs. Gotta get me another TS

    What a fantastic sail! I was contemplating which boat is nicer. They appear to be equal in performance. Or maybe Houdini is a little faster?The Scamp has the cuddy for shelter, which is a bonus. Scamp seems to have some lee helm, but that could be trimmed out. I think Houdini is the better looking boat, but they are both lovely.

  • @anonymous.notatall6419
    @anonymous.notatall6419 2 месяца назад +1

    The sail has a slight W shape when against the mast rather than the nice wing curve on the other, so yeah one side slower.

  • @David-zl8mr
    @David-zl8mr 2 месяца назад +1

    Bloody Awesome in the true sense of the word. Just curious though, why didn't you use the propulsion? Recently I spent 8 weeks at sea aboard an 18 footer in Kimberley and just couldn't carry enough fuell so electric seems a good option for future voyages. Very interested in your thoughts

    I think you have access to the Scamp SeaDog but also a Navigator - Solid Air. Both seem fit for purpose but can you share a bit about why the Scamp over the Navigator for this voyage? More robust? Better sleeping? Closer matched to Houdini? Thanks!

      Hey mate. I use a Baltic Sandhamn (rated at 50N) underneath a Crewsaver yoke with harness attachment point (rated at 150N). It's overkill for small boats but a good idea if you're heading a little further out.
