Wauw! What an excellent performance that was. Very close to the edge!
Fantastic. Close To The Edge indeed a masterpiece.
Really great job! This piece needs to live on and I love the interpretation!
Sally, thank you very much!
When you watch a full orchestra basically match up to the original piece by five guys you can come to appreciate what an amazing engineering, musicianship and production piece Yes created.
...Exactly! The studio recording was an astounding accomplishment, especially considering the '70s technology they had to work with.
LOVE THIS!
Nice work bravo.
I was lucky enough to be present for this
gee.. this is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
This is a WONDERFUL adaptation of the original... Hurray for Paul Michael ...
Thank you David!
The signature melody at around three minutes made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Glorious.
Excellent! FAR better than the Symphonic Music of Yes album
Thank you bobkosturko!
CLOSE TO THE EDGE and YES (Masterpieces❤❤❤👍👍👍
...and ye shall make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord!
I think the original version is the version that was meant to be.
This is, in essence, an orchestra doing Wakeman's parts.
Yes, in essence... (and many of Steve Howe's parts too)
To my ears, in the beginning of and throughout "iii. I Get Up I Get Down," Wakeman's Mellotrons and synthesizers really seem to evoke a set of orchestra instruments, and this arrangement transfers those sounds to actual muted trumpet, contrabass clarinet, oboe, flutes, etc.
And the Hammond organ being played by woodwinds, reeds, xylophone and piano was a fun reversal of the kind of thing Wendy Carlos did in SWITCHED-ON BACH.
@@Jariel3311 I totally agree. The whistles in the beginning and the "I Get Up" part are better suited for orchestra. The rest, ......
Paul did you write the score for this music ”On The Edge”?
Hi Margaret, YES, I admit it! I wrote the score. in fact, I created the first draft back in 11th grade.
I conducted the WMHS orchestra at the Spring Pops Concert, and your brother Tim was one of the singers.
A compelling undertaking and accomplishment. Congrats. I will say that lack of close micing of the orchestra does it a disservice. There is so much reflection baked in that the instruments lose separation, almost sounding like a mockup using sample libraries pushed through a single convolution IR. The strings are also overpowered by the woodwinds and brass.
Properly micing a large orchestra and balancing it with a rock band is a gargantuan undertaking that will require tremendous engineering expertise and expense the next time the concert is mounted. Otherwise, you're right, it is a disservice.
Love anything Tommy Bowes
Yes music is very appropriate in a church setting, IMO. 🙏
Really good. Thanks! Only thing that I'd change is that the horns don't quite match the intensity of the synthesizer at the end of I get Up I get Down section.
Without doubt. Still, fun to attempt it!
Symphonic orchestra + rock music = sympho rock
Thank you to all who watched our world premiere! If you weren't able to chat live, please leave us a comment here...
That was fantastic. Beautifully orchestrated. And the crowd fully appreciated and enjoyed the opening track to to the greatest album ever recorded.
Bravo to all involved, what a massive undertaking
So much effort for so little
