I'll never forget the moment I played this song back when I was 14 years old on our living room stereo and when it was over my mom came out of the kitchen and said, "What a beautiful song that is!" Mom, I love you forever more!
I’ll try not to bore everyone, but I spent my teenage years learning every note on every instrument on that song, and memorized the lyrics. Close To The Edge has always brought out several different emotions in me. This band just did the same thing to me. I had tears streaming down my face. I can’t tell you what it did to me to hear/watch 5 other people do Close To The Edge damn near note for note. Absolutely amazing!
Close to the Yes Thank you for this. I think I should stop playing now. I once said I would if I found anyone who could do CTTE as well as the ABWHS band did. Well, I either have to quit ... or recognize my limitations. We aren't worthy. Kudos to everyone. The organ solo is bloody crazy hard to make as connected as Rick did. Closest drum treatment to Buford ever. Guits and bass? OMG. And Vocals - leads and backups were thrilling. Now that its all over and done, you have me in tears. My favorite piece of music. Period.

It's great without a doubt and I love the whole album. Have to say though those Genesis guys were even younger when they wrote "Suppers ready" which is for me on par with this song.
A very respectable cover folks! You certainly captured the essence of the spirit of the song and considering the magnificence of the musicians that were YES you should be very proud of what you’ve accomplished here. Well done indeed!
This is amazing. All the musicians are on point, and the singer is absolutely perfect. Her voice doesn't waver one bit - it's so strong on every note. I've seen Yes play this live, and I truly think this may be the best performance of this song I've heard. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!
I have probably listened to this song a thousand times. This performance makes it seem like I am listening to a new song . Every musician brings something of themselves to give it a different contemporary feel. Phenomenal musicianship. Jon Anderson sang in such a high register , it was always on my mind what would a female bring to these songs. Paula delivers with such commitment and style not overly feminine just absolute conviction. She makes this her own. The band and the production people obviously put a lot of work into this. Great editing and camera work . Dare I say this might become the definitive version of this song for me. Bravo.
I absolutely love this! I saw Yes several times in the 70's and have been a lifelong fan, and this is one of the best covers I have seen - of anything, it is so good. I hope you are still together and performing!
Seven years after your upload of this song, RUclips reveals this beautiful secret to me. What a very nice suprise! Great performance, thank you so much!
Tal vez sea esta la mejor canción que ha compuesto el rock británico desde que existe como tal. Mis felicitaciones a estos músicos descomunales que han logrado hacer un cover brillante...
I can only imagine the amount of work it took to learn, rehearse, and perform this in such a professional manner. Astounding. I've been listening to this album since it first came out; this and Fragile formed the basis for my love for Yes' music, which continues for over 40 years later now. Thank you!
To anyone who objects to "cover" versions of YES music: It's no longer the province of one band (if YES' many members can even be called that!) but rather artistic composition in the classical vein that transcends the group and belongs to the world of highly skilled musicians who will continue to keep it alive...and even reinterpreted. You folks are wonderful - and I know how incredibly hard this work is: my college band was one of, if not the first to cover Close to the Edge - back in 1975 (The Haverford-Bryn Mawr College Progressive Rock Band). We actually received college credit for studying Yes' music. Your group demonstrates really terrific ensemble performance, a fine mix and great spirit! Also - great camera & editing work. Thank you so much for your contribution! --From Boston, Massachusetts USA
A very interesting observation by David regarding a cover like this being an interpretation of the music as opposed to trying to copy the musicians. Most enjoyable. This has been one of my "go to" pieces of music since my youth, 50ish years ago. I never get bored of it. Well done to this group.
Hari Yes, masterpieces like CTTE forms the new tradition of classical music - it is a well composed rock symphony with the clasdical ingredients like preludium, main theme in different varieties, interlude, climax and postludium. Just as clasdical composers of the are played by orchestras tiday, bands are "covering" composistions like CTTE, because they are classical works.
Bill P Well it’s not exactly identical. They actually sing in a different key than Yes at six minutes 33 seconds, the organ solo is not at all identical, and at 16 minutes 33 seconds the lead singer goes down instead of hitting John Anderson’s climactic high note. But it’s “Close” enough. Interpretation does not mean improvisation. Classical orchestras play almost every composer’s piece exactly note for note, yet great performances are always interpretations. In this very close rendition, hearing a female alto singing Anderson’s lead is really intriguing and informative. It impresses me all the more that while she has difficulty reaching his higher notes, he almost always nails it. This group’s sonic ambience uses less reverb. That allows each note of each instrument to come through a bit more clearly than Yes’ studio album or Yessongs versions. I really appreciate that, for example, because I can hear every single tap of the drumsticks, which makes me appreciate Bruford‘s brilliant technique all the more. Even the video recording and editing forms part of the interpretive value, at least for me. It emphasizes the intricacy of different instruments at different moments, highlighting the beauty of the orchestration.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this video! When I was 17 yrs old, I had the good fortune to become the drummer in a local band who worshiped Yes. We slept on the sidewalk so we could be at the front of the line for tickets to the Close to the Edge tour in the early 70s - and we handed over a grocery bag full of cash for all the tickets we bought for other people - our group of friends for the evening was most of the front center section of the arena. Two of the guys were music majors in College - we gigged around Norman, Oklahoma and played for dances and bars. We played other popular music, and we'd put up with hecklers who didn't think Yes was good dance music - we did Roundabout, I've Seen All Good People, Siberian Khantru, Long Distance Runaround and Heart of the Sunrise. We tried to learn Close to the Edge - but it was so incredibly tough, individually and trying to play together. We never even got within a mile of the edge. But I've heard this song a million times and imagined what it would feel like to pull it off - to actually be in sync with the band on all those incredible intricate details. Wow! You people did it!!!!! THANK YOU!!
Well done guys Southern California boy here 58 years old and have been listening to us since I was 14 and I enjoyed this very much. Also I play the drums so I know how hard all of this was
You make me so happy! Not just because you succeed so well in playing this rather difficult music, but because it seems Chris Squire was right and the power of YES music appears to reach the next generations. I guess most of you weren't even born when 'Close to the Edge' hit the charts - only three years after YES appeared dead & buried after 'Time and a Word'. 1971-1973 were remarkable years for the band, in which they grew and grew, like adolescents inevitably heading for adulthood. You see, after the intro, I couldn't just walk away, you totally had me under your control.I was/am completely blown away. I should thank my clumsiness for this but I won't. You 5 deserve all the thanks.
You know, I just watched this so I could criticize it, but damn - really nice job. It wasn’t note for note, but they did, I think, a masterful job. I got chills on the “now that you’re home” line at the end. The singer grew on me, to - she was wailing. I’d take her over Jon Davison now, and I actually like him a great deal. Bravo indeed! Anyone who can hang together that well for 17 minutes of Yes at their finest deserves a tip of the hat!
Absolutely beautiful, I was a little worried about the vocals, knowing how unique Jon Anderson's voice is... But Paula really nailed it, and at the same time made it her own. All of you did a beautiful job and I could've never expected how perfect this would be. Amazing work, you are both very "Close to the Yes" but also amazing musicians in your own right.

A "how too" instructional on... on...I forgot what the hell I was looking for now. Because of my clumsiness, now I'm going to be late for work. You see, after the intro, I couldn't just walk away, you totally had me under your control.I was/am completely blown away. I should thank my clumsiness for this but I won't. You 5 deserve all the thanks.
Wow! Very nice. Bravo!
Great, great, genuine "yessound!" Fantastic!
Thw whole band is top notch, but the singer - my Goodness! - the singer is fenomenal.
Beautiful! Oh I love her voice so much! Up and coming for sure! Keep going!
That was incredible. The original never fails to bring me to tears, but i never thought a cover could. You guys nailed it.
Bravissimi!!! Questo è uno dei pezzi degli Yes più difficile da riprodurre.
So good and impressive.... Lead singer you killed it!!!👏
Truly outstanding vocals and musicianship guys...BRAVO!!!
Omg. That was incredible...was in tears. Way to totally pull the heart strings.
I'm one of those young Yes fans. Turning 50 you know. 😉
I love that musicians cover songs like these and especially this one. Classics must be played and music must live.
Thumbs up and thanks for sharing. 👍
One of the best covers of any song I've ever heard! Very faithful to the original! Definitely close to Yes!
At some point, around the middle, this stops being a cover and becomes a performance - and a brilliant one. Well done.
Pretty amazing! Keep up the great work!
Anyone who can play/sing this tune competently from beginning to end is at the top of their game. Well done guys. Sidebar: SMH at the 40 dislikes. I mean even if you genuinely disliked it why diss it with a dislike? These guys must have practiced for ages to nail it live for our listening pleasure. GRRR, damn mean-spirited people.
That was AWESOME!! Th a blue you for putting up on RUclips. I hope some of the remaining members of YES see this!
Very challenging song. Not bad at all. Not perfect. But definitely better than I could do. Kudos for doing this. And don't stop. Lord knows we need more of this.
Nice cover. A tough one to do................ Something you don't hear and see everyday. I admire the dedication to learning the parts. Good job.
Hola. No recuerdo si ya comenté algo, pero en todo caso lo vuelvo a hacer. Una versión magnífica. Rítmicamente (y no es nada fácil), texturas, voz, atmósfera. Fantástico.
Anyone who even attempts this cover has my respect - but this is more than just an attempt! Amazing work!
Excellent. I discover this song on hhe yessongs album. Real creative musicians, complex structures melodies so fantastic. Great great job
This is wonderful, thank you💖
I didn't think this could be possible, so yes, I'm overwhelmed and amazed!
Really enjoyed that outstanding musicians
Magnificent... On all fronts..

Unbelievable! Please, do some more Yes music! It's really good and it's a pleasure to listen.
Love Paula's voice. Very unique!
