I always caught a bunch of red ear on Barkley while fishing for catfish. Use a simple drop shot rig with a 2-3 oz bank sinker about 18" below a #2 or #4 Khale hook on a 5" leader tied directly to the mainline. Usually use about 15lb line and night crawlers. Keep the line taught and the fish practically hook themselves. Catches everything from smaller bluegill and yellow / white bass up to 10+ lb catfish no problem.
My old buddy passed away. But he always said 3 days b4 or 3 days after the full moon. Usually around Ky Derby. We killed them around thos days. We only keep the males but threw back a ton of females. Havnt been back after my buddy passed. Good luck. 😁✌

I have always had good luck fishing that end of the lake. Nice blue cats too.
