Matt Smith was a good Doctor. In high school I grew up with David, but by the time I was in college I was watching Matt Smith. And his whole arch with Amy and Rory was a glorious one.

As Tom Baker said, “Nobody has ever failed at the part.” It really is unbreakable as a character. You always think the one you’re currently watching is the best, but that’s because they all are the same person, so once you get used to the new personality, all the same affection you had for the previous actor(s) also transfers over to the new one.
Christopher Eccelston Episode 1 Season 101 episode "ROSE": "I'm the doctor, by the way. What's your name?" "Rose." "Nice to meet you, Rose. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!"
Tanya Kopel - I would like to take this opportunity to say it depends on the context, if you’re talking about the show in-universe then he’s most definitely not Doctor Who (unless you’re Missy) he’s THE Doctor, and quite right too, however outside of all that in the real world the role is commonly referred to as Doctor Who, as said constantly by the ever lovely Tom Baker, or as in ‘Who Is The New Doctor Who’, as it’s less confusing that way.
The character is called "The Doctor", as long as it's clear which show you're talking about (and it usually is, unless it's in a title like your example), there is no need to say "Doctor Who".
Of course there’s that one ignorant New Who fanboy. The original 4 Doctors, as well as Eccleston, all were credited as “Doctor Who,” so both names are correct.
Fun fact: Doctor who was basically the first time I heard of the name Craig. But the British people pronounce it like : Craig. With the long *a* sound. But people in America apparently pronounce it like: Creg. As if you were saying “Greg” but replacing the “g” with “c”. It took me a while to stop mispronouncing my friend Craig’s name. Anthony James I was the same, but I hate the whole 'my Doctor' thing, because it suggests that the Doctor you grew up with is your favourite and the one you connect with, whereas I grew up mainly with Tennant and my favourite Doctors are Smith and Troughton
The first Doctor I watched Peter Davison who I never really got attached to, then Colin Baker who honestly nearly put me off the show, so I don't really have what I'd call my Doctor when Tom Baker who is my favourite was slightly before my time.

I'm don't actually believe I've ever seen them choose a bad actor to play The Doctor... Of course everyone has their favorite, and I do think David Tennant hits all the marks for my favorite Doctor, but the other actors to have stepped into the role have never failed to impress me. Matt Smith is no exception. True he did take some getting used to, but that is the nature of the show. When a new actor steps into the role has been, will always be, and is intended to be, a bit jarring. By the nature of the character, The Doctor, each death is a bit sad. True the memories live on and it's technically the same person, but each iteration has its own hopes, dreams, ambitions, its own way of dealing with things. At the heart it may be the same character, the same person, but the nuances are so diverse and varied. I truly think David Tennant's iteration of The Doctor said it best, just as he was about to change, with the simple yet emotionally charged line "I don't want to go". So no, Matt Smith may not be my favorite actor to have played The Doctor. That however is by no means a slight. As an actor gifted with a chance to play such an iconic and influential role Matt Smith stands shoulder to shoulder with giants. Does it really matter if one giant or another shines a bit brighter to some people than others?
oh true, all of the doctors have been great actors, they haven't chose a bad actor ever to play the doctor, it's always been someone with talent from Hartnell to Whittaker, all of them are amazing actors that deserve to play the role and all of them bring something new and unique to the table!
Keef, well said. We're to believe this new person IS the old person... but they are each unique! I mean...sure, there's been memory loss, but who hasn't?.....
To be honest, I have been excited about every new doctor - I love to see what someone new will bring to the role and the character. I don't really have "a" doctor. I like 'em all. Companions I'm a bit more fussy about. #donnaforever
I can agree in respect of the doctors all the way up to the most recent (unfortunatly no real character development, emotional investment or any of the good stuff save for to serve as a running gag and a nod to little habits of past doctors.) However on the point of companions I am afraid we must simply agree fo disagree...Rose was deffo de best 😂
Eleventh is one of my favourite doctors. He was so great and wholesome and a great mix between a playful 5-years old and a wise old ma. Also, he was very sweet.
Matt's granddad sounds like a right legend himself! I must admit I was initially quite sceptical when Matt got announced as the Doctor but he's since become my favourite new series Doctor! I hope he'll one day return for a multi-doctor story in the future.
I always loved Matt Smith's portrayal of the doctor. He was my super-hero really. Kind, strong sense of morals but goofy and light on his feet, not taking himself too seriously
To me, Smith's era of Doctor Who with Amy and Rory will always be the peak of the show. In my mind, nothing will ever beat it. From series 5 up to Angels Take Manhattan in series 7. By far the best era of Doctor Who ever made. Everything about it is perfect. The cracks in time narrative, the story of River Song, the Silence. Not to mention the beautiful cleanup the producers did in terms of quality. They made the show look expensive which is something previous eras had failed to do. Series 5 was when Doctor Who became something bigger than it ever had been; ruined by the loss of Amy and Rory. (Clara's 'Impossible Girl' storyline was a bit naff in my honest opinion). I'm so grateful that I got to be alive in a time where my favourite television show was at its very best. Thank you Moffat. Thank you Smith. Thanks to everyone who worked on Doctor Who throughout this era. You made my childhood so exciting and inspired me to become a filmmaker in the process. Once again, I thank you.
When Tennant first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Smith first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Capaldi first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Whitaker first appeared, I was elated and grew to hate her.

One thing you should know about British people is we have about 100 synonyms for 'idiot'. So if someone calls you a funny word like pillock, plonker, numpty, tosser, dolt, muppet, prat, wally, twit, berk... etc. most likely they are insulting your intelligence :)
Emily Stark Yeah, dolt and twit are familiar across the pond too, but not so much berk, wally, prat, etc. As for muppet, people will probably wonder why they're being called a puppet from Sesame Street. ☺
yeah you're right i guess it is, I probably included it because it's also a silly british word that's an insult, but it does have a more specific meaning
Berk is actually a bit ruder than just calling someone an idiot. It's an abbreviated form of "Berkshire Hunt", which is cockney rhyming slang for... well i'm sure you can guess what it rhymes with.
Matt Smith is my Doctor. He's the first one I ever saw, his costume was engrained in my mind as what the Doctor would wear, his performance was phenomenal, and the Eleventh Doctor is the first character I've ever cosplayed, and it's fun trying to be like him.
strzaskany alf Depends less on whose playing the character and more on the writing. Imo Tennant’s writing was really inconsistent. While his regeneration in isolation is great, compared to other Doctor’s he’s out of character.
i bingewacthed nine and ten plus all the specials. i saw him at the last scene of the last special, and then there was nothing more left to binge. (i took 3 weeks for all of it). i checked when the next session would air,and it said "next week" so from this moment on i had to follow him live. nine and ten were my doctors for 3 weeks, 11 was my doctor for 3 years. that didn't change afterwards. so it's him.

Keef Fontaine Maybe that's the secret. I tried to figure out why it's so appealing. I love the show and don't know why.
Keef, well said. We're to believe this new person IS the old person... but they are each unique! I mean...sure, there's been memory loss, but who hasn't?.....
Matt Smith is for sure my doctor!! I miss him so much.
To be honest, I have been excited about every new doctor - I love to see what someone new will bring to the role and the character. I don't really have "a" doctor. I like 'em all.
Companions I'm a bit more fussy about. #donnaforever
same, all of them are THE Doctor, of course I have my favourites but I love 'em all
I can agree in respect of the doctors all the way up to the most recent (unfortunatly no real character development, emotional investment or any of the good stuff save for to serve as a running gag and a nod to little habits of past doctors.) However on the point of companions I am afraid we must simply agree fo disagree...Rose was deffo de best 😂
The best companion is obv none other than the Last Centurion Rory Williams. As for the Doctor ain't no best.
He's my favorite doctor! So good an actor. I'll watch anything he's in.
He is simply one h e l l of an actor
First of all. I thought Matt was the best. He is my favorite actor ever. So amazing and him and lily are just like goals.
Matt Smith 💜💜💜💜💜
Eleventh is one of my favourite doctors. He was so great and wholesome and a great mix between a playful 5-years old and a wise old ma. Also, he was very sweet.
Raggedy man ....
GOOD BYE! [Vanishes]
stoppppp! It still hurts!
Matt saying we excepted is an understatement. It's more like we'll never forget you❤
MATT SMITH THE DOCTOR FOREVER
David is my doctor but Matt has a special place in my heart
Matt's granddad sounds like a right legend himself! I must admit I was initially quite sceptical when Matt got announced as the Doctor but he's since become my favourite new series Doctor! I hope he'll one day return for a multi-doctor story in the future.
Matt was just the best doc💙
matt smith you have nothing to worry about you will forever in my heart be my doctor, my perfect, goofy, sweet, gorgeous legendary doctor
I like David's Doctor but I LOVE Matt's Doctor. He was hilarious and quick-witted.
I've kinda got 3 doctors, David, Matt and Peter. I love all of them, they were all just amazing and I feal like the role suited all of them so well.
11 is my doctor ❤ couldn't ever bring myself to watch his last episode 😢
I always loved Matt Smith's portrayal of the doctor. He was my super-hero really. Kind, strong sense of morals but goofy and light on his feet, not taking himself too seriously
omfg the amount of extremely british phrases in this six minute video is off the fucking scale i love it
Yep, Matt Smith as Eleven is my Doctor!
He’s soooooooo British haha but a great Doctor Who!!!!
MMLEP95 a great doctor*
LFX Gaming are u American by any chance
Girl ofc he’s English, Doctor who is a British Show, he’s the doctor!
A great Doctor. Who isn't part of the Doctor's name.
Matt Smith really is my doctor
His wearing a normal tie, it's very disconcerting.
Shame it's not his normal one bow ties are cool
I will always remember when the Doctor was him
When Tennant first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him.
When Smith first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him.
When Capaldi first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him.
When Whitaker first appeared, I was elated and grew to hate her.
Why were you elated?
@@wardjunior1450 because it felt like they were doing something risky and different, which is what the show needed (plus she's a great actor). Unfortunately, the best acting in the world couldn't make up for the garbage scripts Chibnal wrote 😞
@@beelzzebub I’ve never seen her perform well. Broadchurch was the most one note thing I’ve ever seen. She was catastrophic from the first second in dw.
@@wardjunior1450 I did enjoy her first episode as the Doctor, but apart from that I agree she didn't do exceptionally. I find it hard to judge her when she's doing as much as the script allows though
Fish sticks and custard!!! One of my favorite 11th moments!
I never heard someone saying he hates Matt's Doctor, I genuinely think it is not possible to hate his Doctor at all
Hmmm this guy's face looks really familiar...
The 13th Doctor: Not too surprising. You never forget a face, hah.
Some Random Guy especially the old favorites !
What’s it like to have boobs?
The face that killed Doctor Who.
The 13th Doctor why why why why do that just why
matt is so precious I'm crying
I like anyone who speaks with their hands
I adore Matt Smith. He's so sweet and polite
Matt Smith is my Doctor!
I love the actor, hes funny but serious at the same time!!
Accepted you? I would die for you Matt Smith
2019 and still my favourite docter 😘
At least the British are eloquent and more when name calling. Idiot, moron, and dummy....😝
😂😂
Greatest Doctor in the history of the show. Miss him. Miss him so much. 😔
this guy was the best doctor!
Matt Smith is my Doctor. He's the first one I ever saw, his costume was engrained in my mind as what the Doctor would wear, his performance was phenomenal, and the Eleventh Doctor is the first character I've ever cosplayed, and it's fun trying to be like him.
Matt Smith is the best doctor to me
10th for me but hey everyone has opinions
David and Matt are BOTH my doctor😭😭😭😭
Why hate The Doctor, its just the face that changes, it is still The Doctor.
strzaskany alf Depends less on whose playing the character and more on the writing. Imo Tennant’s writing was really inconsistent. While his regeneration in isolation is great, compared to other Doctor’s he’s out of character.
He is and always be my favorite one. Also He is the exact reason I started watching The Queen
I didn't realize just how British he is saying fisticuffs... also.... NERD FIGHT OR WHAT HAHAHA
He is and has always been MY Doctor! He is the one who actually got me into watching the show. He did a phenomenal job and the whole series was great.
My first doctor and of course my favorite
i bingewacthed nine and ten plus all the specials. i saw him at the last scene of the last special, and then there was nothing more left to binge. (i took 3 weeks for all of it). i checked when the next session would air,and it said "next week" so from this moment on i had to follow him live. nine and ten were my doctors for 3 weeks, 11 was my doctor for 3 years. that didn't change afterwards. so it's him.
Legend
matt smith will always be my doctor
I never hated Matt Smith. I loved him...
Great. One of my favorite interviewers interviews one of my new favorite actors :-)
