  • "I Can't Tell You Why" is a classic rock song by the Eagles, released in 1979 as part of their album "The Long Run." It's a smooth, soulful track featuring Glenn Frey on lead vocals and guitar, with Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit providing backing vocals. The song explores themes of love, uncertainty, and vulnerability, with lyrics that express the difficulty of explaining one's feelings. The smooth harmonies and laid-back instrumentation contribute to its timeless appeal, making it a favorite among Eagles fans.

The cool back story of this song is that the guy who sang this song was a replacement for their previous bass player. He hadn't been in the band long when of of the Eagles asked him, "So, you have any songs for us?" and he said "Umm, I'm just the bass player, the new guy. I don't think anything I've written is up to your standards". The other Eagle said "Nah, we're all Eagles and we all contribute ". So the new guy said "Well, there's one song that I think is pretty good"...and that song was I Can't Teel You Why. Beautiful music from beautiful people.

All the Eagles are singers. They had a “ you write it, you sing it” policy, so the lead on this song is writer bassist Timothy Schmidt, who you usually hear singing high harmonies. Don Henley, drummer on Hotel California, sang lead on that one, but he also plays guitar and various other instruments. Glen Frey who is playing keyboards here, played guitar on hotel California, but sings lead on other songs. Joe Walsh was on guitar in Hotel California, and he’s on organ here, very rare for him. Don Felder is on guitar and he was on the double necked guitar in Hotel California, but he still sings back up.

Ah yes - wonderful song. Kudos to Timothy Schmidt, lead singer here, and Don Felder, the lead guitar and his awesome solo. Yes, most of the group had their own songs and a couple had their own solo careers (namely Glen Frey and Don Henley). Don Henley who was the lead singer of Hotel California and is the drummer looks so different here without his afro. It's amazing how much a hair change changes a persons appearance. Love them! I absolutely LOVE the Eagles and they have a fantastic catalogue to listen to, both released songs but also their whole albums as well. The group had a great concept when it came to making music which afforded them many different sounds and while it's hard for me to pick a favorite, I would say that this song is WAY up there if not at the top! It's not overly long but hearing that bass line from Timothy along with his vocals and Glenn on the guitar, it's just beautiful, it's one of those songs, like Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, that you wish would just keep going.

This is the most relaxing and beautiful song I’ve ever heard. The simple yet extremely strong guitar parts make this song one of my favorites. Don Felder was, and still is, an absolute genius. Throw in Joe and Glenn playing piano and Timothy’s unreal bass line you have the greatest combination to ever play a note. Period.

The Eagles are similar to Chicago in that many of their members could be lead singers at any time and the others would cover on background.

One of the things I love about today's a capella groups (like Pentatonix, Home Free, Voiceplay) is they all have multiple people who can (and do sing lead) on various songs. It's unusual for a group of people to be comprised of great singers who choose to stay as a group instead of going out on their own. Back in the 70s and 80s, the Eagles were the soft-rock group that epitomized this uncommon occurrence. They were, individually AND collectively, top-notch, studio quality musicians, professional level singers, and hall-of-fame quality songwriters/lyricists as well. And several played multiple instruments at that level. Don Henley played drums and guitar, Glenn Frye played keyboards, saxophone, guitar, Joe Walsh played keyboards and multiple different types of guitar, etc. Overall, one of the best bands to ever make music.

In the beginning (60s). there were new bands that had OK backing musicians with a great singer, or great lead guitarist with OK rhythm and singer. Band backing harmonies were rare. Later on, when the chaff was separated from the wheat, some bands formed that were all great musicians and great singers. Two of them would be The Eagles and Steely Dan who you know already. They gave up touring after 1 year of success and stayed in the studio and used the most amazing session musicians for recording most of their albums. Great reaction, Thanks!

I think you heard the background violins. I loved your reaction. This is my absolute favorite song. Thanks for your honest opinion. Your awesome. I’m a 70 year old woman, but I love all music. I love hip hop and rap, if it has a message. The old rap stars like Tone Loc had great lyrics without resorting to shocking words and violence to get people to listen to them. Further generations will listen to the message of life in the ghetto, but it’s the lyrics as poetry that they will listen to. It’s poetry put to music. The ghettos and the lives of people living in them are a story. I want to hear their story. Everyone needs to listen to the beautiful poetry of early rap songs. It’s angst and protest at its most extreme point. Although, “My Dingaling”, and “Funky Cold Medina” were just fun songs.

This is the caliber of music we heard back in the 60s and 70s. Influences were coming from all over. All these guys were gigging and jamming around LA back then. Their careers span over 50 years and that's exceptional. Please honor more from this generation. We are in our 70s and 80s and losing so many. One you might like is by Kenny Loggins. "Sweet Reunion". Lots of influences here too. ruclips.net/video/Lmx5nQGzjtw/видео.htmlsi=d2rTvtQE3j3w1SL-
