@Ben All American accents have an old british accent foundation from different parts of the UK. that's not special to the east coast. North-East coast accents are actually the furthest from the british compared to the rest of American accents since they had the most influx of immigrations of non British countries... Sicialians, eastern euros, Irish and Germans made a giant impact on the East coast accents

Baltimore accents had alot of influence from the northern cities as well, It's like a Northern/Southern Mix, you can especially hear it in some of their Northern city-like Vowels. Btw the accent you hear in this video is not a Baltimore accent, the actor is British and didn't lose his accent entirely. But yeah... Southern accents are the least affected US accents by non-british countries, their accents probably didn't change that much from back in the day so it could be an "Old accent". Near the coast it's probably mostly West country influence, while Backcountry and Appalachia had alot of Northern English/Scottish influence as well (Some German)

Us Marylanders are Northern to Southerners, and Southern to Northerners! Can't catch a break!

I always imagine I don't have any distinctly MD regional accent, but then will sometimes catch myself saying things like "wauder" for water and "imma go..." for 'I'm going to go...'. Fair warning tho, season two is kind of an outlier and very different from the rest of the show, a lot of people don’t care for it, but it’s still definitely worth watching imo. Once you get past that tho, seasons 3 and 4 are a fuckin masterpiece, possibly the greatest pieces of tv ever made.

One of those characteristics is the lack of monotonousness due to the constant tone changing of vowels, that gives them a "sing-songy" inward and downward tones that is much more prominent than any other English speaking country, and almost an alien concept to American accents. (Scouse accent is a strong example). It's Swedish-like because it's common in Swedish accents as well.
