- Here's my 0.55 acre pond we fish, swim and play in. Natural pools are a up an coming thing and this isn't quite that but we do treat it and keep it looking nice so we can enjoy it all summer. We use LakeProInc.com to treat it every month in the spring/summer to keep algae, aquatic plants and other non-desired growth down. Treating the pond does not kill off the fish or other aquatic life (frogs, turtles, etc).

Another great video! You don't have to go to the water park and fight the crowds. Do you ever see snakes while swimming? That is the thing I would be afraid of.
Havent seen a snake in there yet. Herons, ducks, fish, turtles, muskrat, geese,frogs, etc have been seen.
Awesome and you’re in se mi (I’m just west of port Huron). Trying to learn how to treat my pond as we’ve been here five years and it’s always disgusting. It dried out completely for the first time ever so I’m in the process of digging it out deeper. Its a large pond but the deepest spot is only two or three feet. I’d like it to be five or six feet in the middle and would like to be able to swim in it.

Do you also treat the water for parasites and bacteria? Or is it uncommon for ponds to have that.
I dont treat for that. Always a risk I suppose but i dont see it different then swiming in the local lakes.

Why not just get an Aerator running getting more oxygen. In there certainly helps.

Aerator helps some with algae but not many other shallow water growth. Also doesnt do anything for color. And its another thing to break.
@@NaterTater well how much are you spending though having them treat your pond every month or so with chemicals etc.
I recently used “True Blue” which I will continue to use, I also used Koenders pond care for a while. But now I use Polar Blend and these Muck Pellets. I find it works well. But I’m up in Canada. Cold water I have an artesian well that over flows into the pond and stock it with Trout. I had a huge fish kill this year. Not sure what happen. I suspect something got into the pond by rain or Bird “Blue Herron”. Or some one dumbed a chemical in. I’ve had trout in my pond for over five years with out any major fish loss. So it was a weird year. We did have heat wave but my aerator was running 24/7. Couldn’t get anyone out here with all the lockdowns. It seems to have recovered.
Your fish kill experience is one reason I hire it out. They can monitor and treat appropriately as well as tell you why you had a bad year. You can certainly save money treating it yourself but an aerator is not a replacement for treatment, its a supplement if needed.
@@NaterTater where I live I don’t know anyone that even offers that service. I couldn’t even pay someone to come out. I’m in Ontario. But way outside the GTA. So it’s not an option.

Sound works on the video, maybe it was muted or your speakers were off? Pond gets to about 20ft deep.

Great video, thanks! We own land with a pond, and used Google maps to get the general dimensions to calculate the area. Are you sure this is only .55? Visually it looks at least as large or larger than ours.

Why is he wearing a mask? Are the chemicals that he puts in the pond such that he needs to protect with a mask? Makes me question the safety of the chemicals?? Blue dye? Has it ever discolored skin or swimsuits?
This was during the joys of peak COVID and it appears it was company policy (I'll refrain from sharing my thoughts there). However I'd say most chemical when in the concentrated form are typically "hazardous" to some degree before diluting or completing the breakdown process that occurs after application. For example its typically a 24hr no swim guideline after application. The blue dye will stain like nobody's business in the concentrated form but once applied to water it does not stain at all.
