@Henry Black idk what you're on about, but this scene, and every other scene in this movie, are faithful to the graphic novels to the point of being nearly identical. So I guess if there's any blame to be put on this scene being a "rip off", it would be on Frank Miller, not Quentin. But in the comic book medium, homages are a little more direct and on the nose, especially if it's not to another comic, because it could be looked over and unnoticed, and also just because American comics is not a place for subtlety. So can you really blame anyone?

This scene is both disturbing and well-portrayed. It really gives Dwight a conscious and his stress is all explained by his imaginative among the living Jackie Boy and a minor detail at 3:35, the colours that you saw previously shifts back into noir and this probably means Dwight snaps back into reality after that dream.

I knew right away that this was the scene he directed. I could tell mainly because of his trademark in all his film in which there's a scene that features the main character talking to himself. Also how he borrows a lot from other films. The lighting in this scene is very similar to opening scene from an Italian horror film called Suspuria, in which the main character was also in a car on a rainy night with rainbow lighting effects.

uncanny. i saw this *in theatres,* man - all the way back in _Twenty Oh-Five;_ before i knew or _cared_ who Robert Rodriguez was, before that *Grindhouse* baloney; before i was even aware QT had a directing cameo (and frankly after seeing him in his 'django' bit of silliness? that oughtta be the *ONLY* cameo work he does) - obviously *way* before this film became the classic that it became... i still remember sitting in that theatre, and having this scene hit me like a bullet. by a *wide* margin my favorite scene in this (great) flick, del Toro _kills_ it here. there are _way_ too many kickass moments, like the slight chuckle he puts into the word "smoking", the moments where his head reclines, so his chopped vocal chords cause his voice to fail... the eerie magic realism of this scene that _somehow_ stands out in a movie *FULL* of over-the-top moments... it's moviegoing paradise, man. weirdly enough, just the other _day_ i wrote in my journal just arbitrarily "QT is one _helluva_ director." i was thinking on "Jackie Brown" at that moment, but could have been thinking on pretty much every film he's ever made. True words... _TRUE._

In a film that uses color so sparsely and deliberately, the rainbow effect was super jarring and distracting. Having said that, once the cop pulls up, the red and blue lights make perfect sense, and the yellow of the cop's flashlight on Dwight's face looked really, really cool.

“Nobody ever really quits, a smokers a smoker when the chips are down.”
I’m not a smoker, but that’s absolutely true. My ex girlfriend was so proud of “quitting” until our relationship started to fall apart and she was back to a pack of Spirits a day in no time at all.

. . what do you mean? I tried to figure it out rewatching this, but idk. .is it in the action where his face falls forward, and the gun lodges through his head with his eyes and mouth wide open? Cuz that style, in a way, does actually remind me of the first death scene in Suspiria.
