Digging out the old fly gear after 25 years. Pleased with your explicit directions. I seem to have a lot of thumbs now, but I look forward to wetting some lines again.
yeah, I struggled with the surgeon knot many years, and now its such a piece of cake I dont mind fixing the leader to match the size of the flies...so I actually fish much better, just becouse of this simple method :) 10 minutes of practice and you never go back :)
Ive struggled with the surgeon knot. Well, before now that is. Ill have to try this. Im left handed, and for some reason, knot tying is a challenge with every video. The hemostat is brilliant. Would have never thought.
Its SO much easier...and since its easy, I tend to change tippet and adapt the length of the leader to make the fly move better and , that gives me fish!! :) All the best! //Ken
New to fly fishing as have retired recently, tying knots is not my strong point.watched this video, what a simple and easy way to tie knots. Thanks Patrick
Thank you for this video. My eyes aren't what they used to be and so I've been looking at knot tying tools of all sorts to help make tying fishing knots easier. I never thought of using forceps to aid in the tying. Thanks so much and thumbs up to you!
Tnx mate :) Its a real life saver :) so quick and easy :) I been doing this for at least 15 years and Its not saving just the hustle and time, I catch more fish since I dont drag out with changing tippet So the leader is perfect for the fly at all time :)
Best knot tiring video I have ever watched. I fumble around trying to tie these knots the way others have shown and it takes me forever to get it done. I will practice these examples. Thanks.
I use this for bobber fishing and use it as a stopper knot, so the bobber can hang low with the leader to cast better, when it is in the water the bait and weight sinks causing the line to slip through the bobber and stop on it. Makes you able to fish at a depth of let's say 12ft meters, while using a 7 ft rod. 👍
OK, this was an awesome tutorial. I have been tying these knots for years, but I had never considered using forceps to tie them out. I did some dry runs and all three knots are both faster, cleaner and more efficient. Better knots while helping to get me out faster on the water. Thank you so much for this!
First time I saw anyone tie knots with a hemostat was in an emergency room, this when I was in college in the '60s. While building the body of a bass guitar, my friend had cut his hand with a gouge. The ER doc made 20 perfect stitches with black silk in about two minutes using a hemostat. I nearly passed out while my friend watched-never forgot. The hemostat - way to go.
So glad I could help out! :) It makes my fly fishing SO easy...and better! I am a lazy bum by nature and before I struggled with my knots...and of course didnt extend and perfect the length and tippetsize on my leaders... Now it is so easy to adapt the perfect tippet size and length...so in the end I now catch more fish! :D

Hello Ken great tuition thankyou at last easy way of tying with cold hands and fingers like cows hudders regards from teesside UK ( stay safe and well )
Hi Ken, I think this video is excellent and it’s helped me immensely. I was wondering if you had a similar forceps technique to tie a loop knot? Many Thanks Joe
Hi Joe! Thanks for your kind words :) You know, I actually got a tool from a student I had in a casting class just a couple of weeks ago!! It seems that many competition anglers use it to tie loops! Works really good!! Check this out: ruclips.net/video/YKEy7SizLnY/видео.html
Hi Ken, I worked that loop knot out. I tie the fly onto the dropper line first of all using your second knot (it works perfectly as a loop knot obviously) and then I use the same knot to attach the dropper to the main leader line. Many Thanks Joe 👍
Hi Ken, instead of trying to explain further I just made my first RUclips video. I hope the video is clear and sufficiently explanatory. Again thank you for uploading your fantastic videos. ruclips.net/video/8ErU1n-tK6A/видео.html
Absolutely, many names, same knot :) Its easy and practical to use :) Some use a needle, som use a nail..me?....I use my pliers or fingers :) We sell a special "knot tool" But I consider it just a waste of money :D
well do it with your fingers then :D I like to do it fast and safe...Im a old fart with bad eye sight :D You might to one day :D do whatever you want :D
@@SticksAandstonesBozo Thanks man! I wish I learned that myself when I started back in the dark ages ;-) It was actually a veterinarian that showed me how they use the forceps to lengthen the tread when doing surgery! @@christophercook723 Well, to be honest, In our fly fishing community we try hard to include all genders, religions, sizes and races..we all love to fish...I fish exclusively with flies, and I make my living of designing fly fishing products, so that is the reason i Use the term fly fisher of course :) Anglers might love to use these three knots as well, you got a good point there. Im sitting in my camper van right now, waiting for the temperature to rise a bit before I get out in the water :) first trip of the season for me, have a great day!
