  • A little Mini Series! My Step Father has owned this 2016 Caddy for a year or so now and it was a little cold and noisy for daily driving so I offered to sound deaden, Insulate & Carpet the rear to help with this.
    Hardly a step by step guide but will hopefully help someone!

    One thing about those fir tree clips for the headliner... The are very secure. So much so that trying to get them out without doing some damage to the headliner is not so easy. Had to drop my headliner to modify some led lights and even with a trim clip removal tool kit still managed to trash the ply around one of the holes and slightly split a few others.

    Love the videos,
    just thought id share a little tip for repairing plastics, not that you need to as you have already carpeted and fitted the bulkhead trim, could be handy in the future though.
    the damage done to the plastic with the air saw is easily fixed with a little bit of mitre bond (CA glue), scotch brite,aerosol,. a form of 'cold welding' plastic.

I'm a total novice so asking a basic question please can you tell me, 1) what are the tools that you used to cut back the bulkhead, I didn't quite catch what you said? 2) My son's caddy conversion is going to be slept in would you recommend a vapour barrier, I've seen others add that prior to the final finish. Thanks so much.

    Hi Dan, great video and series as a whole, really informative and helpful as it about to get cracking on my t5 camper conversion. I’m looking to use 6mm ply to line my t5, do you think the clips you used on the headlining would work with 6mm ply? I’ve seen most hidden clips only work with thinner ply but would like to use 6mm as it’s a bit more sturdy!
    Thanks a mill
    Conall 🚀

    • @DanChambersDAC
      @DanChambersDAC  2 года назад

      Hi bud, Glad you have enjoyed it and glad they have been useful. 6mm Should work with the fir tree clips. Personally I think 3mm works better as it forms to the curve of the van easier and doesn't put pressure on the clips trying to straighten. It's not really doing anything other than covering the walls to warrant 6mm over 3mm.

    • @tadge74
      @tadge74 2 года назад

      Many hidden clips work on 3mm panels as that is thickness of the clip. These are different to the ones dan used as they fit in after you have carpet lined the panel. You can use a router to rebate the 6mm ply 3mm down so the clip is essentially clipping onto 3mm thickness. 6mm ply should be fine but as the clips will be under pressure. This can ne alleviated if needed with kerf cuts in the ply on the rear. As Dan mentioned 3mm is fine as its just panel covers. If you are hanging items on them or making furniture as we do, we use 6mm for a stronger foundation. All the best👍

    Good to know: Larger clips needed.
    If you want to mount a carpeted plywood, instead of the simple cardboard.
    Because it is thicker, and has much more weight.
    If clips are not strong enough, you need to screw in.
