If more GEMS soundtracks sounded as decent as this one it wouldn't have its bad reputation, it was actually an advanced tool and relatively easy to use compared to its predecessor (Artech's Sega Music Development System), it just wasn't something many composers put the time and/or effort into.
Chris Braymen used some of his own instruments in this which is maybe why it sounds advanced compared to the usual GEMS rubbish. Those hi-hat cymbals are FM not DAC and they're not a basic GEMS instrument sound either.
@@Oysterblade84That's pretty much what I mean, GEMS is an excellent tool with advanced features, capable of playing decent quality PCM samples and everything runs on the Z80, the same thing happened with MS-DOS AdLib, composers used only the MIDI part but without optimizing the FM and therefore several MD (Western) and MS-DOS soundtracks sound horrible, but you already said it, all because the composers of this port made an effort to program their own instrumentations although it still uses some default FM patches.
Does anyone not autistic complain about it to be blunt? Sounds fine to me. I never heard one person in real life ever critique it, only neckbeard losers on-line.
It's crazy how good this sounds considering Furniss wasn't involved -I would kill to hear Matt's interpretation of this.- Shame about that Graveyard stage though. :|
@@hieioni3354 Like I said, he's the guy who created the original soundtrack, so he absolutely deserves the credit, but I assume the two guys listed under him (Chris Braymen and Roy Wilkins) were actually responsible for adapting his work to the Genesis sound chip.

Dan Forden is a pretty good guy when it comes to old-school Mortal Kombat soundtracks. He obviously ain't Matt Furniss but he got the job done.
05:44 is the best track from this game, hands down!

@@alexisynthfm1988 Yeah the FM kick drum being used is a default GEMS patch.

Genial!❤
This is another one of the more decent GEMS soundtracks and while this is decent for GEMS it definitely uses some of the default GEMS patches.

Yeah, a Matt Furniss interpretation would be sick, but Dan Forden did a good job on this.
@@hieioni3354 Forden was the original composer for the arcade version, I don't think he had anything to do with any of the ports.
@@NucleaRaptor Then Random VGMs just inaccurately included Forden's name in the description?

Plans to add this and your other recent OST rips to the Mega?
I'll get the mega folder updated this weekend
it doesn´t sound that bad on real hardware, but its a shame its mono only.
muito melhor que aquele lixo que saiu no outro console branco e roxo lá.....
The GBA?
Eu acho a versão do Snes muito boa, mesmo que o som seja um pouco mais abafado.
@gabrielbarreto5934 É uma versão legal de jogar, não de ouvir
