- This is our walkthrough of the Christiana Mall in Newark, DE from July 6, 2020. This is one of the busiest malls in the country right now. Needless to say, quite thriving, even in the midst of this current health crisis. A fairly sprawling one story mall, it is laid out very efficiently so you can cover the entirety in a rather short time, never having to backtrack a corridor you just came from. It is a very nicely designed mall with plenty of arched skylights and a hip modern feel without being bland and beige like so many malls today.

I'd like to say a few words about being an ambassador to your local malls. We have been taking the time to visit all the malls within a reasonable driving distance to check up on them and see how they are doing. Also filming an updated video every year or so, regardless of the lack of many changes, just so there is a video record of the health over time. We think this is an important thing to keep tabs on, especially in these wildly turbulent times. The current health emergency has accelerated the impending Retail Apocalypse we've all been talking about these last several years. This was already a big problem, but the shutdowns and restrictions have made the issue 5x worse and likely hastened the death of the enclosed shopping mall.
I know we've all been on pins and needles wondering how bad the fallout is going to be from all of this.
There really is no way to know exactly unless we ALL go and do our small part to make it known how it turns out. I implore you, if you have the means to pick an area you would like to be an ambassador for, and go document your local malls. Whatever your medium, it doesn't matter, any and all documentation is necessary and vital in this day and age. Whether it be on Social Media, Flickr, RUclips, any platform gets it out there and preserves it for posterity. We can't paint this picture unless we all grab a brush...

Going on a deep dive of the places i used to go a lot when i was younger. Luckily Christiana is still here and it looks like it's doing well. I guess that no sales tax thing is good for business. I was there with my grandmother on the day they opened the first part of the mall, behind Strawbridges. Sad the fountains are gone. I had fond memories of them.
One of the main reasons people like to go here is that there is NO state sales tax in Delaware. Its very easy to get to from SE Pennsylvania or Southern Jersey, and people will drive for two hours just to get here. Its a day trip for many people.
Mall is beautiful. The skylight throughout the mall gives the mall this amazing glow. I need to visit that mall one day. Thanks
This is my mall. I've been going here for 25 years. It's kind of bittersweet because while the mall does very well, it doesn't look much like the mall I grew up with after the mass renovations they did in 2008-2011. I think we lucked out that they decided on warm earth tones instead of bleach white and grey. Anyway, the mall is shaped like a 4 which makes it easy to navigate.
Christiana Mall is located between Wilmington and Newark at the intersection of busy Interstate 95 and DE 1 which connects the Delaware Beaches and Dover with Wilmington. The skylights help give the mall an airy and cheerful appearance. There are quite a few stores which appeal to younger consumers which will prevent the mall from gaining a reputation that it is stodgy and mostly old folks go shopping there. They have a variety of anchor stores including upper end Nordstrom and discount retailer Target. This is a highly successful mall and could be a model for other malls located along major highways in larger moderate size population centers near larger population centers.

This is my childhood mall
A very nice property. Super busy with happy shoppers. Looks like a high occupancy rate too. Has stores that most malls can only dream about. Architecturally the mall is well done. Nothing too exciting. At least it’s not white. The various skylights let in a great deal of light. While during the day I’m sure it looks great, I bet it looks even better at night. The interior lighting is beautifully positioned. This mall is it going anywhere anytime soon. It’s figured out a successful business plan which should keep it successful in the future. Very nice place. 👍🏻
What a nice mall! Good to see one doing so well! Not anywhere close to where I live, but nice to see people enjoying it...masks and social distancing with no drama! 👍🏻

I grew up going to this mall... I am 36 this was my favorite things to do when I was a kid . Going to the mall. It has change alot.

Stopped here to get lunch once when coming back from Virginia Beach. Nice mall overall.
You must have filmed during a less busy time of day. This mall is the complete opposite of a "dead mall" and has always been very active.
I live not far from this Mall. Too much traffic, it's right on I95. It takes like 20 minutes sometimes to get out the parking area.
If you didnt know there is also a Cabelas thats outside the mall and its a part of the mall if you didnt know
