Sadly, if they have been in the cage long enough... and if they have been traumatized (PTSD, for example), they may even act like animals even after they have been freed. Scandinavian countries and Germany understand this and their country's prisons are rehabilitative. As a result, rehabilitating prisoners instead of just locking them up and "throwing away the key," the recidivism rate is TREMENDOUSLY LOWER than in the United States. Obviously the USA knows this. The various reasons for the U.S not to follow the example of the European prisons that actually are making a difference with crime recidivism can ONLY be crooked, unethical, greedy, and unfortunately criminal, I believe.
I’m glad you’re touching on the subject of mental illness. Not even 60 years ago many mental health facilities were in operation. However everyone who has allegedly committed a crime, with mental health issues or not, are being incarcerated TOGETHER. I am a correctional officer with 12 years in so far. From experience I can tell you that locking an mentally impaired individual up has no benefit to it. Especially since prisons are not sufficiently trained nor equipped to deal with individuals who are impaired. The government reduced funding for many psychiatric hospital and so many are shut down and have become derelict. So now so many are coming through our prison systems for circumstances or crimes that at one point would have gotten them into an appropriate hospital! It’s a very dangerous situation. Not only for the individual, but also the other detainees/inmates, staff....it’s a very Very dangerous situation that no one really discusses. So again thank you for this video

I'm sure it depends on what jail you're talking about. In my experience there's no way I'd trade a year in prison over what I had to do, you'd have to be crazy to say that. I was in jail for 40 days once and we got to watch TV nearly all day, everyday, and the occasional DVD. The people there were all nice or at least nobody caused problems. It was also pretty clean because we cleaned the whole cell ourselves everyday, or was it every other day? I don't remember, but each person was assigned to clean a certain area and it only took about 15 minutes. It was a walk in the park compared to what I've heard about prison, not that I'd want to go there again, no thank you.
Love this video and being from miami and being inside there and the boot camp i have witness things. The only thing you missed was most the inmates got a mouth full of golds and dreadlocks

Miami jail is definitely worse than prison. I did a little bit of time there. My cell was a straight up gangster party till about 4:00am that’s usually when we go to bed and wake up around 12 or 1 in the afternoon. The only time we wake up early is twice a week when the CO’s tell us around 10:30am to go to the yard for 1 hour only. So we only get to see the sun twice a week for hour a day. The inmates aren’t really the problem as long as youre not a B***h, the conditions are whats tough not the inmates.on that note not everyone there is a POS. Many get way overcharged by the police and get thrown in there and left there forgotten until you can get an attorney, many cant afford a private attorney and gotta settle for a “public defender” (public pretender), if you’re not able to get a private attorney like myself? Set your clock for months ahead, because youre not going anywhere and make sure your family puts money on your books because lunch is usually 4 slices of bread 1 slice of bologna 1 slice of cheese 1 packet of mustard 1 apple 1 cookie.
