Very informative video. Thanks for sharing! Just thought of letting the audience know that I am a software developer and my petition was filed under employment based category. In my case, USCIS directly approved I-485 AoS petition bypassing AP/EAD and also didn't call me for the AoS interview. I received my GC a week ago. I wish you all best with your GC process!

How did you decide if H1B or EB3 was better for you? I feel like EB3 makes it easier to get citizenship later, but my advisor said companies will usually sponsor the student for H1B after the STEM extension end and he didn't know anything about EB3
Glad you found it helpful! As far as I know, H1B is a work visa and EB3 is a category for employment-based permanent residency, not a work visa. I applied to H1B 3 years in a row (while I was on STEM-based OPT) but wasn't able to make it past the lottery each time. I went from OPT to L1B, then to a greencard.
Hello there, I'm also waiting for my I485 (filing for EB3 as well). I'm kinda confused about the process timeline. I wonder if you could help me to clear it out. I filed the I140 and I485 all together. I already did the fingerprints. Later on the I140 got approved. So is the next step waiting for the interview? and then I485's approval will be decided based on the interview? It's hard to find information about this category online. Thank you

Thank you for sharing. Quick question, when you filed as a skilled worker, what other required application did you file with your I-485? i.e. I-140 or I-765. Congrats again!

Glad it was helpful! I'm afraid I don't know much about what my employer had to go through. I got the job out of college on OPT, and I asked my manager "can you start the greencard process for me?" and my employer took care of the rest. Best of luck on your greencard journey!
I also came here in 2009 as an international student and I just applied for the eb4 employment based gc and waiting for my biometrics it’s been 6 months since I submitted my AOS but all I have got ever since then was an EAD. I wonder what the next step is? Did you get your biometrics done b4 the interview and b4 you got your EAD??
Alan Musere I submitted my AOS in June 2019, got a biometrics appointment notice a month later, and completed my biometrics in August 2019. I’m not sure the biometrics requirement is different for the eb4 category since I was in the eb3 category :/ Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
Thank you so much for the info, this is super useful. You mentioned that you started as a student 10 years ago, after your degree, how did you extend your stay as a student?
I was on OPT, then I filed for the STEM extension (back then it was 17 months, I think now it's 2 years). Meanwhile I kept applying for the H1B (3 times in fact) but did not manage to get it. Instead I transferred to the London branch of my employer and after 1.5 years came back to the US on the L1B Visa. It was a pretty convoluted route! But I met my husband in London so I'm grateful that I didn't make the H1B lotteries and ended up going there, haha.

Hi I'm preparing the documents for AOS and was wondering whether a lawyer is needed and did you consult with the lawyer since the submission of AOS documents?
My employer hired an immigration law firm to oversee the entire process. I received a Request for Evidence (RFE) after I submitted the AOS documents and the lawyers were there to help sort it out. They also helped me prep for the interview as well.
From getting a H1b for the first time with an employer, how long do you have to wait to apply for green card? Also do you personally ask your employer or your supervisor if they can file for a green card?
Wow, so cool. Congratulations! Thank you for the information. I'm curious, EB-3 visa is issuing here in the US, or you have to go back to U.S Embassy in your country to get EB-3 visa?
EB-3 was not a Visa but the green card category I applied for! I was on the L1B Visa, which I got from the US Embassy in the UK (and then later renewed in the US Embassy in Korea). For the green card stuff I did not have to go outside of the US to process anything!
@Aliera Bustillo It looks like you're well on your way! Congratulations on finding a reliable sponsor :) I can't really give much general advice other than: be speedy and thorough with your paperwork whenever your lawyers ask you for information; always know when your status documents are nearing their expiration so that you can renew things; know what type of documentation you need with you when you travel out of the country (or if you can travel out of the country at all during certain periods!)
