Man, I will always think of this as the greatest live performance ever recorded, by any group....I just absolutely love that era and the energy is terrific beyond words!!
By the way, that's exactly why Maiden is a totally different band (and one of the reasons of their huge success), after all that, they're here playing 4 straight shows at Long Beach, and after touring Australia and Japan in the following months, they returned (!) to the US to play for another one and a half months. This guys are totally professionals with a huge respect to the fans, that's the secret and that's why they deserved what they earned: to be one of the best bands ever, period.
I know, right?? There is no other bassist like him. Robert Trujillo ranks up there for similar style but Harris has the whole package as a bassist and performer. I remember back in the 80s when Motley Crue became all the rage. A Hit Parader survey put Nikki Sixx as the #1 bassist over Harris and Geddy Lee. I nearly puked. Until 'Shout At the Devil' Nikki Sixx barely knew how to play his bass.
All of the haters out there saying Bruce's vocals are weak aren't vocalists themselves. The longer a band tours, the most the vocalist suffers. All performances are better at the start of a tour. How many shows on was this recorded?
Exactly. Of course after multiple songs, high energy and running around and performing, a singer is going to be winded and not up to speed. This is the way live performances are and anyone who thinks they are going to get studio quality has way higher expectations than they should. Bruce has never outdone himself in the studio for this song live. Same with Painkiller by Priest.
The people who says that bruce's live performances weren't as good in the 80s are absolutely right... But the fact that he can sing the way he does when he almost is in his 60s proves that he is a legendary vocalist. And he can sing all the high notes now cus of decades of training.
Already with 8 and a half months of touring (European leg, Canadian leg, and at the end of the first part of the USA tour with 3 months, with a detour to Brazil for Rock in Rio) , a recovered throat infection, almost a 5 straight days shows schedule every week since bloody August, still thinking he had to made Australia and Japan for sure... and you're saying Bruce's voice is tired.... Well, of course it is... give him a break. UP THE IRONS !
I wouldn't call it weak vocal performance, but yes, you can hear Bruce is struggling with high notes in 1985. Live After Death tour. It's not as good as Rock in Rio or Flight 666.
alright alright. lets do some talking. Blaze wasnt bad, he brought u ssome beastly songs The Clansman Sign of the Cross When two worlds Collide Lord of the Flies and such but he is not as good as Bruce. i like Blaze but Bruce is the best singer to grace a microphone.
If I were you, I wouldn't get this one. Bruce's voice is completely shot, or there's bad sound or something. either way, the vocals sound a lot worse than normal. theatrically, it's awesome, however. you should browse through it on youtube before buying.
I'm not really sure why this is rendition is considered 'better than the studio recording' as some lists have put it. Dickinson's vocals are not even close to being on par of the studio album. Of course they won't be in a live performance. I saw Maiden 3 years ago and they performed just like they did here. What a testament that a band can still out rock anyone 37 years later from one of the best live albums ever recorded.
@10078g I was just watching an Avenged Sevenfold vid, who I like a lot. Some kid commented "best band in the history of the world" . I can only think the kids too damn young to know Maiden, or he/she would know where a7x get those solos from.no new metal can touch this.
To be honest, I cringe at Bruce's voice in the Live After Death DVD. Don't get me wrong... Iron Maiden fucking rules!!! But Bruce's voice just seemed to out of it.
So what was with the intro in the beginning? The whole "Woe to you oh earth and sea" part? Im not saying theres anything wrong with it but it sounds different than when they normally play it
Sorry ,but if you listen and have a good ear for music ,Stu Block dusts Dickenson . check out Iced Earth Live in Kourion and forget about Great Iron maiden vocals and listen to the actual quality and range of others .
Man, I will always think of this as the greatest live performance ever recorded, by any group....I just absolutely love that era and the energy is terrific beyond words!!
"I'll make Southern California fucking burn!"
No Bruce. There's enough of that going on now :(
By the way, that's exactly why Maiden is a totally different band (and one of the reasons of their huge success), after all that, they're here playing 4 straight shows at Long Beach, and after touring Australia and Japan in the following months, they returned (!) to the US to play for another one and a half months.

3:34 Steve Harris' right hand. What the fuck! Superhuman.
I know, right?? There is no other bassist like him. Robert Trujillo ranks up there for similar style but Harris has the whole package as a bassist and performer. 03:09 Bruce slapping Dave's ass in order to alert him that he'll lift him up lol
The audio has been messed with or remastered shitilly, the original video which i bought in 85/86 sounds a lot better
Not the best metal band,
THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD.
there is nothing better than this
I envy Dave's ability to play that all in downstrokes with no sweat.

Since he came back for Brave New World his vocals are unreal. Bruce is the mouth of the beast!
Iron Maiden is just so cool. Especially what they did in the early to mid-eighties
I wouldn't call it weak vocal performance, but yes, you can hear Bruce is struggling with high notes in 1985. Live After Death tour. It's not as good as Rock in Rio or Flight 666.
Wtf are you on about this is one of Bruce's best live performances
alright alright. lets do some talking. Blaze wasnt bad, he brought u ssome beastly songs

the ritual has begun
Satan work is done
Hey, this is that concert in which Nico looks like the pink Power Ranger!! LOL

no just go to 1:00 and 1:18. he can't make the highs that are on the studio version. that is a sign of a poor vocal. sorry
@10078g I was just watching an Avenged Sevenfold vid, who I like a lot. Some kid commented "best band in the history of the world" . I can only think the kids too damn young to know Maiden, or he/she would know where a7x get those solos from.no new metal can touch this.

people stop looking at comments that were posted months ago and commenting on them. comment on the recent ones.
He sounds kind of tonedeaf this show though, I've checked most videos. He's not like his usual self.
So what was with the intro in the beginning? The whole "Woe to you oh earth and sea" part? Im not saying theres anything wrong with it but it sounds different than when they normally play it
And Eddysa88.... if you are going to dis them.. them at least spell it right!
no it wont .. i would if you saw em '83-86 maybe not now though...
bruce must have been very tried for this song.
I agree, but I think Metallica is worth mentioning.
@666stet Yep,
