    Super cool! I ordered three of these stoves for me and my two kids for Christmas! I’m one step ahead of them now on how to use this sweet stove and I’ll get to show them how it functions! ! Good times, good memories!

    I've been using this set for a while and I recommend using this for mostly water. I make ramen, oatmeal, coffee and cook vegetables. Not non stick. I have a little 8" skillet I bought from Walmart for $5 that completes this set for outdoor cooking. The little stove is honestly worth the price and it has an igniter not even the expensive brand name ones have igniters. You can also buy the little stove for less than $10 separately and buy a separate cook kit of your choice.

      That's a very good suggestion about limiting the use of something like this for heating water. Thank you for the insight!

    About 4 yrs ago I got a similar set from wish, for use in a Suzuki Samurai. It was a great purchase, i normally used my MSR Whisperlight (it's now for winter use only). But after trying a few different models of the stoves, My version of this is always in my OMG, I broke down bag. A friend and I were coming back from hunting , and witnessed a car accident. The people were kinda shocky, I quickly made some tea and hot chocolate for them and a few other stoppers. Stayed for the police and ambulance, the paramedics were grateful for keeping the under observation and treatment .
    The surging is from you rotating it, left still they stay pretty good!

    These are sold under various "brand" names for about the same price. Probably made in the same factory in China and branded as per the client's request. I have an identical set sold by the Czech brand Pinguin. But as long as they work, they are a good lightweight choice.

    I just got the same pot set (not the stove) under a different brand name for about $15USD, seemes to work fine so far. I have a cheap Chinese stove similar stove burner that I paid about $7 USD , for cheap kit, its fine, for quality kit I will take my MSR etc for the long run.

    Sorry to see some people giving you a hard time for trying out products. I admire you because you disclose what you are doing and I like people who do that like you and Les Stroud etc.
    Too many people from all walks of life telling others half truths or lies of omission. I like Steve and you and others who do reviews that appear and act authentic. Who aren't trying to be someone they are not. 👍 and thanks.

      Thank you chris, I appreciate that. I understand that the stuff that people send to me to review were "free", but what (a small part of) the viewers can't seem to understand is that that IS how reviews are generally made. Someone making their first video would probably have to buy their own stuff to review, but now that I've been doing this for five years and have a bit of an audience there are companies that are willing to send me stuff to review. It's not a "payment" or "pay off", just the way things are reviewed. I've mentioned to some people that the restaurant reviews and movie reviews they read or see on TV or the web aren't generally paid for by the reviewers. They are comped, but nobody accuses them of being a sell out. I understand that I'm not a "professional" reviewer, but I do my best to provide as professional a review as I'm capable of. I'm glad that there are more people like you who understand what I'm doing than the minority that simply want a conspiracy theory or just something to complain about.

  • @treenguyen749

    I'm probably defiantly very late but the way to properly light the burner is to rotate the collar which prevents air from mixing into the gas before lighting the stove this prevents gas from just escaping and possibly creating a fireball, once you have the gas lit you can rotate the collar from safety flame to blue flame/ cooking mode or whatever.

    Thank you! I adjusted my igniter and works PERFECTLY now 👍

  • @marchills4131

    I like how you function test in real time, revealing the issue with the piezo electric ignition. I have a couple of these cheapy stoves and the ignition feature works flawlessly on both. But on one of them, two of those swing out "ears" on the pot supports wouldn't open all the way, preventing the pot from resting completely level. I had to file a little metal in 2 strategic spots to correct the problem. I guess my point is that a lot of what one pays for with the more expensive brands is better materials, better workmanship and - perhaps most importantly - better quality control. But as you and I have discovered, at least some of the deficiencies can be corrected with a little creative fiddling.
    BTW, I don't have that exact cookset, but do have lots of extra room in mine. Like you I use the extra space for storing the stove and fuel canister, but I've also squeezed in a Bic mini lighter (backup in case the piezo ever does fail), a bandana (also keeps the contents from rattling), a wind screen made with HD aluminum foil, and a half of a sponge scrubby + dish soap stored in a hotel sized shampoo bottle. The scrubby and dish soap go inside a small ziploc baggy.

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  8 лет назад

      Great ideas for filling up as much of the extra space as possible!

    tip push the igniter a little bit closer to the burner and it'll work just fine to light it up. however as for a cook set goes I use the Ozark trail 5pc. mess kit with it and the canisters I use are the Coleman propane/butane mixed canisters and I've never had a problem with any of them so far

    I've got a Propane Torch that acts the same way. If you turn the gas up to high it will blow out the spark before it lights the gas. Turning down the gas it lights every time. It's also hard to light out side in the wind but if I turn up the gas just slightly more it lights.

    Cooking an egg in an aluminum pan like that is tough.. even on the lowest flame. I've had luck cycling it on and off the flame repeatedly, keeping it well above. Titanium is even worse. Lots of butter helps :) Looks like a decent set for the price. I wonder if rebuild kits are available for the stove? Be careful cranking the valve down beyond where it seals, you may wear it out.

    My son has a very similar set ( different and more well-known brand name) that he picked up at his work with his staff discount. Like this set, it has some trouble getting something to simmer, but if you want to get some water boiling in short order it works just fine.

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  7 лет назад +2

      Good tip! The problem I was having with this one was that it was tilted too far from the gas to ignite it. Minor flaw in a super-cheap stove that otherwise worked fine.

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  5 лет назад +1

      I was feeling kind of bad thinking I was going to have to say it was a complete piece of trash and then thought that since the element was working fine and making a good spark it must be something else. You certainly wouldn't expect to have to push your sparking element closer to the burner (and wouldn't want that to be the case in an expensive camp stove), but it definitely made for a simple solution that worked just fine!

    not bad for $20.00 but durability is the question? his site sounds like the web version of odd or big lots, if so it might be worth checking out once and a while? you can occasionally find a deal there. never have been crazy about those piezo sparkers anyway, seems like every lighter you get with one won't work after you refill the damn thing the first time much rather se a flint sparker!

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  8 лет назад +1

      I knew someone would mention the scraping sounds! I was going to use a plastic MRE spoon, but was afraid it would melt. Only other option I had was the metal mess kit fork and I didn't realize how bad of an idea it was until it started making all that noise! But, it didn't scrape the finish at all--believe it or not!

      @paladin656 8 лет назад

Whether the stuff works at all, how well-made it seems to be and the price point are all things to take into consideration, but in the end it IS a cheap no-name product and who knows what the long-term health effects could be from whatever cheap coating they may have put on there...

    I bought one of those a couple of years ago. My only issue with it is that the material is not a non-scratch surface. So if you use a metal (fork, spoon, etc) on it it can scratch pretty easily. Otherwise, it's fine for car camping or picnics.

    Nice review, but that is a cheap stove. flame pattern was erratic as well as the control. There's a reason the MSR's and the like are priced the way they are.

    Would a 500ml cannister fit inside the pot?

    • @gschultz9
      @gschultz9  6 лет назад +1

      Good question. I might have to see if I can dig it out to check. I think a 500ml container might be just a bit too big to fit in there, but I guess it would depend on the shape of the canister.
