Fun fact: if you conquer the Space Marine stronghold in Dark Crusade as the Imperial Guard, if someone were foolish enough to try to take North Vandea for whatever reason, you get Space Marine reinforcements and Orbital Bombardments. Seriously. It happened to me very recently when the Eldar just started sweeping through the map. Although, I'm certain this is quite a rare occurence and only really happens if you let the Eldar live into the late game. That will be the last time I make that mistake, as they quickly began to dominate the map.
Honestly, I was expecting a hell when I invaded the Blood Ravens stronghold in Dark Crusade but it went much smoother than expected. Strongholds in that game can be easier than regular battles against a level 10 fortified province.

I love how this song is essentially the "Space Marine Theme" in the same game but changed around. Most of the song is simply the harmony of the main theme but which you can hum over the top but then there are sections where the main theme pops in and it's awesome.
One thing you're forgetting is that many Chaos Space Marines are the very same ones who assaulted the Imperial Palace during the Horus Heresy. These dudes have been fighting for 10,000 years. Ten millenniums worth of combat experience. Dante of the Blood Angels has served for 1200 years in comparison, making him the most experienced non-dreadnought loyalist marine.

Cadia is one of the most heavily defended planets in the Imperium. The Cadian Gate is effectively a bottleneck for the forces of Chaos. Then there's the fact most of the CSM are having just as much fun fighting amongst themselves in the EoT, and some of the Daemon Prince-Primarchs seem to be more interested in the nature of the Warp, Abaddon is effectively working at a disadvantage, compared to Horus who had pretty much all the advantages.

Weakened by infighting, the Imperium is vulnerable to the most precisely timed Black Crusade imaginable... I'd say yours is even more optimistic than the other guy's.
If only that were true. Yet the Imperium is in a way just as divided as the Orks (in a more subtle manner); every organization is at odds due to conflicting ideals or even misunderstanding. The Emperor was the only person who TRULY kept the Imperium together.

But yeah, I remember that one RP I had long time ago as a Space Marine, last stand with a SoB, a Commissar and an Eldar Farseer against thousands of Necrons. It was glorious. Especially when I got hit so bad I was gonna die, and just used my jump pack to land right ON the monolith with as much explosives on me as I could. Sister of Battle died by exploding her flamer tanks when the Crons were about to finish her off, Commissar was the last one standing. And of course, the Farseer died killing the Necron Lord. Good times. Good times.

+2ndKombat Well considering a Space Marine is not human anymore - they are Superhuman beings, Emperor's Angels made flesh. Two hearts in 2.5-3m frame (and above in some cases), genetic tempering and augmentation, ensures super speed, strength and endurance compared to what a normal human can do. Just 20 Space Marines were able to hold back thousands of Tyranids for over 2 hours....... They can fight for days without sleep or food. They are the Emperor's finest, his Angels of Death and they know No Fear..:)

100 Veteran Space Marines died. 100 experienced Ultramarines who has served in many battles. Some geneseeds were retrieved, but not all of them. 100 Teminator Armors damaged, destroyed, those armors can't be fixed in five minutes. Great loss to the Ultramarines Chapter. And Calgar had his Fists earlier. And if 100 Marines used in good way they can change the tides of battle.
The Custodes were like the prototype Space Marines and potentially stronger than the Astartes, but such is their duty that they never leave the Imperial palace. The last time the Custodes actually fought a war, it was in the Age of Apostasy when they sides with Sebastian Thor against Lord Vandire. In short, the Custodes may have the weapons and the training, but they haven't fought an actual war in 8000 years

something tells me the final battle for the "good" guys aka the Imperium, the Tau, and the Eldar is coming, The void dragon is going to awaken with his vast force of necrons on Mars, the Tyranids are coming, the Orks are gathering, the dark eldar are getting bolder, and Chaos is getting stronger every second. But if the good guys die, they will at least die the most kickass death imaginable, and take out so many bad guys it would go into the hallsof badassery for all time.

It’s the imperial fists who specialise in fortifications, the blood ravens specialise in finding gifts
Out of all of the 7 strongholds in Dark Crusade, you never fight a Land Raider. The only stronghold that doesn't use it's own Relic unit against you.

Two hearts in 2.5-3m frame (and above in some cases), genetic tempering and augmentation, ensures super speed, strength and endurance compared to what a normal human can do. Just 20 Space Marines were able to hold back thousands of Tyranids for over 2 hours.......
They can fight for days without sleep or food.

100 Veteran Space Marines died. 100 experienced Ultramarines who has served in many battles. Some geneseeds were retrieved, but not all of them. 100 Teminator Armors damaged, destroyed, those armors can't be fixed in five minutes. Great loss to the Ultramarines Chapter. And Calgar had his Fists earlier. And if 100 Marines used in good way they can change the tides of battle.

something tells me the final battle for the "good" guys aka the Imperium, the Tau, and the Eldar is coming, The void dragon is going to awaken with his vast force of necrons on Mars, the Tyranids are coming, the Orks are gathering, the dark eldar are getting bolder, and Chaos is getting stronger every second. But if the good guys die, they will at least die the most kickass death imaginable, and take out so many bad guys it would go into the hallsof badassery for all time.
