The point of it is to look the opposite to get the experience, sounds like you come from more of an angle of you wanting her to change her appearance to be more “normal”. Not saying you actually do, just what your opinion sounds like.

There are ways to style "normal" looks and incorporate things people like and look good on their body. Not gonna lie, she was astounding and gorgeous on the “after” even though the clothes were just plain unflattering. I feel like she would have loved it more if she were dressed in a better outfit! This is so upsetting because this could’ve went another direction.

It’s so hard to have confidence in your own skin alone nowadays. For someone to have the balls to wear something most people don’t like and LOVE it while being confident - it’s so admirable and awesome to me. She’s gorgeous and has amazing energy. The makeover was silly but so positive and fun. Love this kind of thing.

I love how she doesn't like yellow, blue jeans, or pointed shoes. And that's exactly what they gave her to wear.🤦 Personally I would have put her in black tights, with a cute short flouncy dark green skirt, a corset tank top, and some ballerina slippers. All the clothes they chose for her were just ugly and did not fit her very well at all. Although the makeup was not bad and I did like the wig.

i agree. they dressed her really terribly. the colors were fine and meant to contrast her usual vibe, but it feels like they really shirked effort on dressing her due to her curvier body type and her status as a mother. it feels lazy and like they didnt care to dress her in a flattering way based on predisposed, arbitrary societal norms. you can dress in a more "normal" or "standard" way and not look like you're wearing some satin scrubs and sweats made to look like jeans. elevating the heel a bit more would have been nice too. stylist really botched this one imo.
Mom jeans are trendy but not for every body type. My personal style is Gothic Americana (all black, platformed shoes and all my tatts and piercings to 50s housewife skater dresses, garters.and stocks, and mary janes). They could've made her look "normal" but not a drastic 180 turn to everything she specifically did not stylewise. It was never going to work...she's beautiful and is most beautiful when she's her authentic self (as we all are)
I’d encourage you to check out her channel. She LOVES her daughter and doesn’t care whether she chooses to be super preppy or gothic or whatever. She encourages her daughter to make her own choices
I wouldn’t say anything, but would think it’s cry’s for attention. If she was really going for unique she wouldn’t copy pretty much what most think of when they think “goth”. It automatically makes her less unique and a follower just parroting that sub culture. Which is wrong of me to assume, but it’s what I’d think. But I’d mind my business. You do you. If she’s happy, that’s what really matters. Not what I think.

As a 46 year old goth who's toned it down a little since becoming a mum I came here for the hate comments and I am so delighted I've scrolled pretty far down and haven't found any. I bet there are some though. I've had discrimination for most of my life. I now live in Whitby (yeah I know, home of the goths lol) it's better here but it still exists. I'm genuinely happy by these lovely comments. It's cheered me up and I needed it!!!

Maybe instead of instantly discrediting her for using an academic word (oh God the horror) you could take the time to understand what she meant: Normality might be an invention of a specific society but still it is very real since at a certain point it is expected and enforced by many. Saying that normal doesn't exist is like saying that money doesn't exist since it is just printed paper that most believe to have a certain value. Still without money one might end up homeless and even die from starvation / disease. So suddenly societal construction feels very real and inescapable.

Not gonna lie, she was astounding and gorgeous on the “after” even though the clothes were just plain unflattering. I feel like she would have loved it more if she were dressed in a better outfit! This is so upsetting because this could’ve went another direction.

It’s so hard to have confidence in your own skin alone nowadays. For someone to have the balls to wear something most people don’t like and LOVE it while being confident - it’s so admirable and awesome to me. She’s gorgeous and has amazing energy. The makeover was silly but so positive and fun. Love this kind of thing.

I love how she doesn't like yellow, blue jeans, or pointed shoes. And that's exactly what they gave her to wear.🤦 Personally I would have put her in black tights, with a cute short flouncy dark green skirt, a corset tank top, and some ballerina slippers. All the clothes they chose for her were just ugly and did not fit her very well at all. Although the makeup was not bad and I did like the wig.

The could have still dressed her in a darker color like a dark blue and gray with black shoes but damn they did her so wrong with this, putting her a total outfit she had told them she didn’t like. 🤷🏻♀️ The clothes also wasn’t totally for her age, the dressed her too “mature” like those mom jean, they could have picked something more modern, this women is beautiful.

i agree. they dressed her really terribly. the colors were fine and meant to contrast her usual vibe, but it feels like they really shirked effort on dressing her due to her curvier body type and her status as a mother. it feels lazy and like they didnt care to dress her in a flattering way based on predisposed, arbitrary societal norms. you can dress in a more "normal" or "standard" way and not look like you're wearing some satin scrubs and sweats made to look like jeans. elevating the heel a bit more would have been nice too. stylist really botched this one imo.
Mom jeans are trendy but not for every body type. My personal style is Gothic Americana (all black, platformed shoes and all my tatts and piercings to 50s housewife skater dresses, garters.and stocks, and mary janes). They could've made her look "normal" but not a drastic 180 turn to everything she specifically did not stylewise. It was never going to work...she's beautiful and is most beautiful when she's her authentic self (as we all are)

If I saw her walking down the street in her goth look I would shout out “your bangs are dope!” I think she looks so happy and fun in her goth look.

I wouldn’t say anything, but would think it’s cry’s for attention. If she was really going for unique she wouldn’t copy pretty much what most think of when they think “goth”. It automatically makes her less unique and a follower just parroting that sub culture. Which is wrong of me to assume, but it’s what I’d think. But I’d mind my business. You do you. If she’s happy, that’s what really matters. Not what I think.
Why not have her wear 'normal' clothes that incorporate certain aspects of her style into it? Why choose such baggy and plain clothes that most people would never wear.

As a 46 year old goth who's toned it down a little since becoming a mum I came here for the hate comments and I am so delighted I've scrolled pretty far down and haven't found any. I bet there are some though. I've had discrimination for most of my life. I now live in Whitby (yeah I know, home of the goths lol) it's better here but it still exists. I'm genuinely happy by these lovely comments. It's cheered me up and I needed it!!!

Saying that normal doesn't exist is like saying that money doesn't exist since it is just printed paper that most believe to have a certain value. Still without money one might end up homeless and even die from starvation / disease. So suddenly societal construction feels very real and inescapable.
