Thank you for this!! My son also has dyslexia, and APD, as well as ADHD and dysgraphia. It’s great to see videos for these kiddos at the high school (not very many out there). We’re also doing Apologia Physical science. I’m excited to hear how the Auto Upkeep curriculum goes!
So fun meeting you today! I met you at the estate sale. I meant to tell you that you're the one who informed me about the KEEP program, such a blessing!
I agree learning issues aren’t a barrier to learning but just need adapting!!! I keep the bar high with my kids with learning issues!!! I also give extra time!!! I love when it’s hard to decide we have time to decide what we want to use with a kid who struggles!!! It’s awesome that he’s about to finish phonics!!!
The consumer math looks good, so useful!! I'm trying Denison math this coming year for my daughter (9th grade, special needs). They have 2 levels, one is designed for students that need short, easier lessons.
I’m going to start homeschooling my son for the first time this upcoming school year. He is going to the 9th grade and has Autism. He still isn’t able to read without assistance/ prompts and he doesn’t communicate well for his age. Does any one have any suggestions on a curriculum for the reading and math that may not be as advanced as the ones mentioned. Anything will help, I’m so confused on where to start.
So the math I mentioned teaching textbooks reads every problem to them which is so helpful. If you’re looking for teaching reading I highly recommend the Dianne Craft right brain reading program. That’s what finally got my son reading
My son (also a rising 9th grader) is using Denison pre-algebra this year. They start that at the very beginning. The first chapter is reviewing adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing then two digit numbers. Also, for reading there are text to speech apps and settings for chrome/microsoft office. I would definitely work on phonics also though. I haven’t tried the Diane Kraft program, but (EBLI) speech to print is working really well for my son.
Sounds like you have an exciting and full year planned!
Yes I can't wait

Great video, are these choices for a fully independent child? Or do yall work together?
It’s a combination of both. He does at least part of each of these things on his own and then I help where needed

Thanks for responding back. This is helpful as I start this new journey with him.
