  • When his tenure with the Anne Murray Band ended in 1972, Lenny left Toronto and returned to Winnipeg, the city he had called home from 1956 to 1967. Despite an absence of five years, Lenny was still revered in Winnipeg and easily found work in local clubs packed with old and new fans.
One of these venues was The Ting Tea Room. "The Ting" as it was known, opened in February 1971 and was located in Winnipeg's Osborne Village area. Modelled after coffeehouses of the 1960s, the club did not have a liquor licence, and featured a meditation room and small handicraft store. An article appearing in the March 5, 1971 edition of The Manitoban described its hip character:
"[It is] fulla freaks and other interested folk. It is probably the only place in town where you can get a good Dagwood sandwich better than Mom makes, orange juice, mint tea, soup with croutons and whole onions, potato chips, and a highly imaginative pickle plate, all in one meal and cheap. Specializes in organic food for the purists and all sorts of neat stuff for the unclean."
Lenny played several five night bookings at the venue over a two-year period. An unknown audience member recorded the performance presented here probably in the fall of 1973.
Ron Halldorson, Lenny's old friend and member of the original Lenny Breau Trio, played bass on this gig and Billy Graham, a recent arrival on the Winnipeg music scene, played drums. This trio worked several gigs around Winnipeg during late 1973 and early 1974. Click this link for Live at the Ting Tea Room Part One.

Amazing historic. I know Ron Halldorson and saw Lenny Breau play with Ray St. Germain at Chan's Moon Room and in the 1980's at The Playhouse where he was not himself
