UNRELEASED- LENNY BREAU TRIO PLAYS TWO BALLADS LIVE AT DONTE'S LOS ANGELES 1984

- During the last year of his life, Lenny Breau had a regular Tuesday night gig at Donte's Jazz Club in Los Angeles, CA. He hired musicians to play with him on this gig, notably John Pattituci and Paul Gormley on bass and Ted Hawkes on drums. Gormley and Hawkes were playing with Lenny when these two songs were recorded on June 4th 1984, about two months before Lenny was murdered in his apartment building.
Material from this gig has been made available on two CDs: "Lenny Breau Live at Donte's 6-18-84" and "LA Bootleg 84". However, neither of the tunes presented here are from these recordings and their source is unknown.
Lenny plays his Kirk Sand Seven String on these two cuts.

Lenny was the Bill Evans of the guitar. In my 83 years I've not heard any other guitar player that can come close to playing solo like him. Maybe someone with his talent will arise in the future.

This seems to be off the previously available bootleg at Donte's June 4th 84, but you have done a hell of a job improving the audio clarity of Lenny's playing here, and I thank you so much. While the original bootleg that was available was a nice vignette of what level Lenny was playing at during this time, this really brings all the intricacies of his chordal comping and subtle lead work to the forefront. Such amazing work by this channel over the past few years, and as a devote of Lenny, I thank you once again.

I was so happy when I read the L.A. Times entertainment section and saw that Lenny Breau was scheduled to perform at Donte's. In those days my wife and I had two young children so we had to hire baby sitters and our discretionary monies were small but we did manage to go there twice to see him perform. The first time was great but the second time we went he seemed wasted but still he played some good stuff. I wish we could have gone to more of his performances but didn't really have the money to.
