i use clip studio paint too, and i was so excited to see this video! i absolutely adore your style and painting process, and you have been one of the biggest inspirations to me, and your channel is one of my favorites. your videos encouraged me to get serious about digital art. i came from amanda’s video a few months ago, and i’m so glad i did! thank you so much!
Damnn clip studio is hustling! CSP is taking over! Adobe is shaking! This is cool, I wanna see more pro artists use them. I think CSP is very underrated and more people should be talking about their amazing tools.
yoooooo I love clip studio! monthly payment sucks for me so I really like that you can just pay for it once and you'll have it forever! plus the community that makes stuff like brushes and palettes is really great!
You have been my favorite artist on instagram for a while now! I'm so happy I found your youtube! You inspire me so much, your style is like nothing I've ever seen, your mood, the atmosphere. I feel like I'm looking at photos to another world every time I see them. Thank you for your videos!
7:38 - They have liquify now, feels kinda janky (idk if its me with no config and drawing in 4k canvas) but help a ton, its a pretty good program and I really love how smooth and good the brushes feels. The mixing colors make me really like it a lot as well.
one thing i love about clip studio's liquify is that they made it a tool as opposed to a filter. does make it more limited but i vastly prefer that over having to bring up a whole separate window.
Really? Mine works so smoothly! I was actually so impressed by that 😅 Maybe it's cuz it was still new, my whole program went kinda wonky for a while after the newest update
I love how he doesnt say too many negative things about clip studio art so it wont offend anyone, and including that, he used only the brushes that you get when you first start using clip studio, so this also shows people that you can create art with just the tools given without changing them :)
wow as a user of clip studio paint it was mesmerizing to watch you paint! i was having difficulty with blending skin tones and watching you blend with the gouache blender and airbrush taught me lots!
I bought CSP EX while it was on sale and haven’t regretted it for a moment. As someone who has used Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop before, CSP would be my top pick. Super happy that my favourite artist has given it a shot!
On days when I don't feel like drawing, seeing ur art makes me want to draw again. It really inspires me and give me ideas. Love ur work and keep up the good work. 👍
Is also worth knowing that at the top right (what looks like a circle with an arrowline through it) is a pallet where you can drag your most used brushes and shortcuts. You can make as many pallets as you like. Stops you having to switch between pen/pencil/airbrush etc all the time.
My experience with this app was awesome, it's like an aid to even the lowest level digital artist. Everything is so fluid, colours blend well, the little digital knowledge you may have gets amplified. I think it also helps in getting over the fear of sketching and putting colour together. I'd recommend beginners like me to play around it for some courage. LOL
As a Clip Studio Paint user I really appreciate that you used the brushes the platform has🙏 because lately I have been struggling exactly what brush to use when but now I can learn from the art master! The video was very newbie friendly which was incredible! Thank you!
Thank you Sam! Nice review! I've been using CSP for almost 1 year and it's a awesome and cheap program. I agree with you about the standart brushes, they are amazing! One another thing that is good is the third "color" option (botton "c") that works as a eraser but using the brush stroke. The "timelapse recording" is also very convenient, but you have to take care about the backup files, you have to delete them manually in it's backup folder, in my last illustration it saved almost 20 x 2gb files in backup! 😵😵😵 And for those that have difficult in anatomy, you could use a 3D material to help in your drawings, it is very usefull to set a pose 😉
So far, the closest thing CSP has to PS's lasso tool is mesh transformation, but you still need to fill it in unfortunately. Other than that, it's a pretty great program with a good brush engine. Also if you're a PS user and is worried about not being able to use your brushes anymore, since the December update, you can now import your PS brushes! And yeah, they have a sale at least 2-3 times a year. Without a sale, PRO is 50$ and EX is 200$ iirc. All sales are half off. The only difference between PRO and EX is the comic publishing tools and the unlimited frames you get for animation. If you're just there for drawing, the PRO will probably be just fine.
The absolute coincidence of this video and review of CSP is beyond timely. I've been highly interested in the program for years now but held back due to income priorities/motivation.... etc. It's real nice to see more serious artists and hobbyists trying the programs out again and making more recent content. Come on pennies ... momma's gotta get some art done!!
I really love CSP! To be honest, I didn't get into digital drawing till last year, and while I have been using Photoshop for nearly a decade now, I decided to start learning digital drawing on CSP first. I started on the Debut version which came with my Pixiv premium account ($5/mo, tho you only need to pay for one month if you just want the Debut version forever) and I really enjoy learning and painting in that software. The included brushes were awesome and I got used to the interface/shortcuts very quickly. A month later and I decided to upgrade to the Pro version, and it was definitely worth it. The vector tools are amazing and having custom brushes was nice. I also love how you can set your line art as a reference layer (or group) and use the fill bucket tool to fill in colors in separate layers. Just lots of nice things. By the way, regarding the liquify tool, Clip Studio doesn't have such feature, but it does have something called "Mesh Transform" (under Edit, Transform), which is handy for changing proportions of a layer or selection of layers. That was probably the tool you needed in those few cases. I really like your art style btw! Also to anyone deciding if it's worth getting Clip Studio paint and don't want to pay the $200+ for the EX edition, I honestly just recommend getting the Pro edition for $50 (or at the time of writing this, $25). It has everything the EX edition minus features for making (long) animation and multi-page comics. If you do need the EX edition, then you know who you are, but if you're just doing illustrations, then there's no need to get the EX edition. There's also the Debut version that has most of the features the Pro has minus vectors, extensive brush customization, and limited materials. There's always an upgrade discount between editions, so you won't spend more if you decide to go with Pro then later upgrade to EX.
You should try to sprinkle some vector workflow when painting with CSP, it'll save so much time while being less destructive The vector layer work on all brushes too
One great thing about clip studio paint is the fact that it can give you the document in psd format. I don't have photoshop, it's too expensive for me to buy, this gives me advantage
Clips is an awesome program especially if you want to do comics or manga. The tools will help you so much and save you a lot of time. I would highly suggest it.
I really love much you explain everything and it's so helpful, no matter what draw I learn more and more each video. Thank you for teaching me so much on digital art!
Wonderful video! It's awesome seeing you grow on all your platforms! I would love to learn more about your drawing/anatomy processes as well as how to blend them colors so dang good!
I been using Clip Studio for a few months and love it. Many years ago I used Photoshop. I think both programs are good. I am new to digital art, drew traditionally for years. I am still doing both.
Whats also nice about Clip studio paint is you can save in formats for Photoshop and Sai itself or work in those programs and re-open it in CSP. Its pretty friendly and even do animations in the program when you pick the deluxe version
You are AMAZING. You inspire me so much and your are just so talented I hope you never stop making videos. Also your art style is so beautiful and unique like if I'm seeing your art in many places n every time I see it I go AYY THATS MADE BY SAM DOES ARTS BASICALLY you are an amazing artist
CSP is so amazing. I've been using it for couple of years now and I just can't think of going back to PS. The brush engine gives so much adjustment, that you can pretty much create any type of brsh you can ever need.
i started using csp last year on my computer, then i bought a subscription for the ipad version! and oh boy, i love it!! it helps me so much with my job as an illustrator!
As someone familiar with photoshop, but new to digital painting, I really appreciated how I was able to get to work right away and have it feel familiar. Ofc, it resulted in the drawing being made up of like 15 layers, but hey, had to cover my back from mistakes i might make later on :D
forgot if it was ACN or some other artist group, but im glad that i found your page and channel. Your voice is so calming and i dig the chill aesthetic
Not sure if this will help with the liquify issue but if you do Edit>Transform>Mesh Transformation its the closest thing I found to liquify. (you can also adjust your transformation points with this tool, its in the side bar as well as the top menu) And if you have all your layers into a layer folder, you can use this effect on the actual folder layer and it will move everything at once thats within that folder so you dont have to adjust each layer (lines, colors, etc) one by one. Hope that helps!
Got 2 years of CSP for free when i bought a used Wacom intous lol. Previous owner never registered the pad or collected on the bundle. Bet your butt I'll be using CSP with a deal like that.
I also found it easy to switch over from PS, esp cuz I can't afford a subscription, so the one time payment was even better. I do agree though, a lot of people miss the liquify tool- I think it's something they should make. Also, they just barely added a new feature on their latest update- and that's the 'timelapse' feature, just like how Procreate does. You have to turn it on for each piece, but it's really cool. I think if enough ppl told them, they'd add in liquify? We'll see.... Thx for the review! And nice piece at the end!
Ive been using Clip Studio Ex for a while now, it has more options than the regular one and feels superior to all other software i tried when it comes to drawing, it just has everything u need, so far i have over 300 brush for EVERYTHING i could think of & over 200 3D model to use & thats me using the free ones, there are tons more which u can buy if u spend more money
Been using Clip Studio Paint for a few months now, one of the best investments I made, realized as well that it seems to use less system resources than Photoshop does, its reliable and for me, in my opinion, the best alternative to using Photoshop for digital art work.
You should do a ranking of your most recommended digital art platforms, it would be really cool and helpful for people like me that don't know which app they should get
Oh my god! I am so happy to see you using CSP. I use it too. my Wacom acts up in PS so I can't paint in it. I am a big fan of your art style. You are one of my favorite artists. I hope someday I will be able to paint like you.
I use clip studio too and it’s pretty easy to learn the interface, I love how everything is moveable! I have my color wheel on the bottom left XD loved seeing you review this!
This is a really helpful review! Very informative and showed off a lot of the features I was curious about. I come from a Photoshop background so seeing the similarities and differences in this program is very helpful for me. I really appreciate this.
I think when it comes to painting, coloring, etc. it's 50/50 they're both equally good. When it comes to actual drawing/linework though Clip is just so much better optimized and the pressure curves are smoother and more sensitive on the light side of things (I could not get PS to behave similarly no matter what setting or addon I get). I would never, ever ink a comic book page in Photoshop like that's just willingly submitting yourself to torture. Oh, and a paint bucket that doesn't make you hate your life, that's nice.
I'm using CSP for a long time now and I really love it. I work on PS for my studies but I'm part of the CSP team x). You have a lot of useful tools for helping you, you can download brush, 3D model, you have tutorials frome different artist on different subject, it's so useful to create manga, webtoon etc and the animation too. I just love CSP. You can discover a lot of things on it so explore it! ~ BTW I love you art, what an amazing artist (and your voice, so calming😭💖)
CPS have a liquify tool, but it is a little bit worse then in photoshop To bind it: shortcut settings -> edit -> transform -> mesh transformation I have bounded it on Ctrl + Shift + T xd
I have both clip studio and paint tool sai and I like shading a lot more in sai since I have a hard time with clip studio. Also I like my scrolling in and out to be inverted so to scroll in I scroll up and out is scroll down, but clip studio won't keep my setting so im having a hard time with that but I still like it. Ive started teaching myself to animate and clip studio is making that possible so I give it props for that
I have a challenge for you. I commented this on another video but im commenting here too in case you dont see the other one. I do digital art on my phone and theres these settings on my phone, color inversion and bedtime mode. Bedtime mode makes everything in black and white and color inversion just inverts or flips the colors. As im watching this video im making a picture with color inversion and bedtime mode on. I would like to see what you can do with this challenge. I would recommend having someone make a color wheel or something with the colors out of order so you dont know what they are. This challenge is pretty hard
yea man when you said it moves like real paint i felt that. i can also attest to the feel of this software definitely is like the real deal more then photoshop
sir your my great inspiration to learn digital art. although i always appreciated others art i also wanted a lot to make my own art. now i have my wacom drawing tablet and medibang software. i m learning a lot from your videos and taking those tips to improve . in future i'd like to represent u my progress art.

@CatCactus I already have it :) But no matter how many tweak I do to its presets, it's far from what the liquify tool do :/

You have a lot of useful tools for helping you, you can download brush, 3D model, you have tutorials frome different artist on different subject, it's so useful to create manga, webtoon etc and the animation too. I just love CSP. You can discover a lot of things on it so explore it! ~
BTW I love you art, what an amazing artist (and your voice, so calming😭💖)
CPS have a liquify tool, but it is a little bit worse then in photoshop
To bind it: shortcut settings -> edit -> transform -> mesh transformation
I have bounded it on Ctrl + Shift + T xd
your art and videos inspire me so much, congrats on 100k!
Ive started teaching myself to animate and clip studio is making that possible so I give it props for that
Grinned like a fool the entire time I watched this. Great video, great artwork, great great great 😍🎨👌💙😆
The Clip Studio Piant experience is even better with the CSP Tabmate Remote!!
WOW! So talented. Love the review of this program too.
Sam, fun fact: liquify exists in clip. Just go to the blending tab, and you will see Liquify at the top.
There is a liquify tool in CSP. Second option in the blending tool.
yea man when you said it moves like real paint i felt that. i can also attest to the feel of this software definitely is like the real deal more then photoshop
Theres no liquify but you can download a liquify-like brush in their asset catalogue! You can also try their built-in mesh transformation tool
Your voice helps my tinnitus thank you 😊
You can actually change the interface however you like. You can move all of the docs freely if you like.
omg yesssss thank you for this, I only have clip studio, but love your videos, I got so excited when I saw this xD
When the man and his voice are as beautiful as the art!
I like your art so much !!! It's like the paintings I imagine but can't paint like that ,but you do 😀😀😀
sir your my great inspiration to learn digital art. although i always appreciated others art i also wanted a lot to make my own art. now i have my wacom drawing tablet and medibang software. i m learning a lot from your videos and taking those tips to improve . in future i'd like to represent u my progress art.
